.ESK JOCKEY CLUB STEWARDS REPORT FRI. 15.03.02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr C McLune (Chairman), Mr J Hackett, Mr G Ireland, Mr W Flynn

WEATHER – FINE TRACK – GOOD RAIL – TRUE POSITION

GENERAL: As M. Carson was indisposed, the following riding replacements were approved:

Race 3 GINGER CAPRICE M. Crawford
Race 8 BALLN LAD A. Abrahams

RACE 1: PAT CLOAKE H'CAP – 1460M

ALA SCALA and STAGEWISE were slow to begin.

Passing the 1300m LITTLE PIG shifted in and made contact with the running rail.

Near the 1100m LITTLE PIG was momentarily tightened for room by CEREMONIAL SON which was inclined to shift in and away from CONDAMINE BELLE.

RACE 2: CHARLES THORNE H'CAP – 1200M

IL PALIO and BOUDICA were slow to begin.

Approaching the home turn IL PALIO, after improving up on to the heels of COOROOMAN STAR, had to be steadied and as a result shifted out abruptly.

RACE 3: MALACHI CONROY H'CAP - 800M

Trainer R. Mulley was advised that MONBEAUKAY, which was reluctant to load and delayed the start for some time, would be required to obtain a barrier certificate before its next race start.

After beginning slowly, TOMMY BAY then commenced to buck for some distance. Trainer L. Spencer was advised that the gelding would be required to barrier trial prior to its next race start.

SHALARI jumped away awkwardly.

When racing in restricted room rounding the home turn, MY SHEILA shifted out slightly, making contact with RIVER OF BELLS.

Approaching the finishing line, MY SHEILA was momentarily hampered by RIVER OF BELLS which was inclined to shift in under pressure.

RACE 4: DAN O'BRIEN MEMORIAL H'CAP – 800M

COOCHEN JENNY WREN jumped away awkwardly.

SLULINE, COTTON TOP and MY ISABELLE were slow to begin.

Shortly after the start COTTON TOP shifted out and had to be steadied off the heels of CITI BLAZE.

Approaching the home turn COTTON TOP hung out and as a result had to be steadied off the heels of SLULINE.

R. Kerwin, the rider of GRAND CHEVAL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that after leaving the 100m she permitted her mount to shift in under pressure, resulting in PRINCESS DOON and CROWN MAID being checked. R. Kerwin was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence at midnight on Sunday, 17 March, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 31 March.

RACE 5: TOM O'BRIEN H'CAP – 800M

CONNELLY was slow to begin.

AVON JEWEL shifted out shortly after the start, resulting in CIRCLE OF WHITE being momentarily tightened for room.

CONNELLY was momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

TURIN shifted out after passing the 200m resulting in PARIS CONSUL having to be steadied.

RACE 6: TOM COPLEY H'CAP – 1200M

CASSIE'S PRINCESS jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 400m SILVANUS had to be steadied to avoid the heels of the tiring RUSTY RANCH and as a result shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail.

A short distance later CASSIE'S PRINCESS shifted in under pressure, momentarily tightening the running of both RUSTY RANCH and SILVANUS.

RACE 7: WALKER MEMORIAL ST PATRICKS CUP – 1200M

Due to a clerical error, R. Kerwin was a late notification of rider for COUNT YOUR DREAMS.

After making heavy contact with the fence behind the barriers, COUNT YOUR DREAMS was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported that the gelding had sustained a laceration to the offside stifle. As a result, COUNT YOUR DREAMS was declared a late withdrawal at 4.10 p.m. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on COUNT YOUR DREAMS were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets applicable.

MY SWEET DARLING, which was fractious prior to the start, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race.

REGAL CLASS and MY SWEET DARLING were slow to begin.

SUDDEN TREASURE and FIRES OF IRELAND came together on jumping away.

Shortly after the start STODDART raced in restricted room to the inside of MEDIEVAL MAESTRO.

Approaching the 1000m YOGI'S EDITION shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of SUDDEN TREASURE.

At the 400m FIRES OF IRELAND shifted out to improve and in doing so made heavy contact with FOREST CHATTER. As a result, FOREST CHATTER was forced wider on the track.

YOGI'S EDITION was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.

RACE 8: IVAN SINNAMON H'CAP – 1750M

CORAL BAY was hampered on jumping away between BALLN LAD and WICKY POPO, both of which shifted ground.

TRILOBITE jumped away awkwardly.

GO TELEST was slow to begin.

G. Lynch, the rider of TEARS OF GOLD, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in shortly after the start when not fully clear of WICKY POPO, resulting in that horse having to be steadied.

G. Lynch, the rider of TEARS OF GOLD, was severely reprimanded for excessively reducing the pace after assuming the lead approaching the winning post, resulting in CORAL BAY and GO TELEST having to be steadied.

BALLN LAD commenced to overrace passing the winning post on the first occasion and as a result became unbalanced and lost ground.

CORAL BAY was held up and unable to improve approaching the home turn.

Trainer L. Cristaudo was advised that BALLN LAD, which finished a distant last, would not be eligible for nomination at provincial meetings until the horse establishes some competitive form.

WICKY POPO was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported that the mare had pulled up lame in the off fore tendon. Trainer L. Paton was advised that WICKY POPO would have to barrier trial satisfactorily and a veterinary clearance would have to be produced prior to the mare's next race start.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
