Acting on a confirmed phone call from Trainer T Weier, WIDE BAY and DELICATE DAMSEL were declared late scratchings at 1.20pm when both horses became cast and were injured en route to the track. Trainers T Weier (WIDE BAY) and K Alldridge (DELICATE DAMSEL) were advised both horses would require veterinary clearances prior to their next race start.

Race 1: TOP MARC FREE SERVICE FEE MAIDEN PLATE - 1460m
1st - PE TE CRUISER 2nd - XENA’S LAST ACT 3rd – GOLD BULLION 4th - ANNESSE

This start of this race was delayed approximately 25 minutes due to the ambulance arriving late on course.

STRAIGHT AS A DIE (M Wood) was declared a late scratching at 1.32pm when that gelding was unable to be loaded into the barriers. On the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered all bets to be refunded and deductions of 9 cents the win and 10 cents the place on face value all winning wagers to apply. Trainer G Gorring was advised STRAIGHT AS A DIE would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.

ANNESSE (App M Abe) began awkwardly and lost ground.

XENA’S LAST ACT and PE TE CRUISER (L Appo) raced wide in the early stages.

CENTURY ROCK (W. Clasohm) raced wide throughout.

Rounding the home turn XENA’S LAST ACT (App S Bogenhuber) shifted out when placed under pressure.

Following the running of the event a post race Vet examination of TIKOPIA (S Drake) revealed the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer’s representative for Mr G Cornish was advised TIKOPIA would be barred for three months and would be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to its next race start (AR 53A). A swab sample was taken from TIKOPIA.

Race 2: MATER LITTLE MIRACLES CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 800m
1st – BLUCHELLE 2nd - COUNT DE LOIR 3rd – DREAM’S COMING 4th – LITTLE RASTIS

COUNT DE LOIR (D Sparkes) was slow to begin, and a short distance later was hampered between TRIPLE ROAD (S Bayliss), both of which shifted ground.

DREAM’S COMING (C Eaton) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 700m CACHINNATION (M Heagney) was hampered between PULL THE WOOL (L Appo) and LITTLE RASTIS (G Auckram), which had a tendency to lay out at that point.

S Bayliss (TRIPLE ROAD) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR 137(a) in that near the 600m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CACINNATION resulting in that gelding being checked and lose its rightful running. S Bayliss was suspended for a period of six meetings to commence midnight 4th July and up to and including 15th July 2009. In assessing penalty stewards took into account S. Bayliss’s excellent recent riding record.

Approaching the 300m CACINNATION improved up onto the heels of TRIPLE ROAD and had to be steadied. Soon after CACINNATION commenced to lay out until entering the home straight.

At the 100m PULL THE WOOL was momentarily steadied between CACHINNATION and JAVAKISKA, both of whom shifted ground.

Race 3: HORSELAND RACE BLANKETS MAIDEN PLATE - 800m
1st – MELVIN 2nd - AMY’S SECRET 3rd – FRISCO’S DIAMOND 4th - ERIS

MELROSA (W Clasohm) was declared a late scratching at 3.05pm when that filly was unable to be loaded into the barriers. On the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered all bets to be refunded and deductions of 16 cents the win and 14 cents the place on face value of all winning wagers to apply. Trainer G Henderson was advised MELROSA would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.

RUTH THE BOSS (S Bayliss) and FRISCO’S DIAMOND (App K James) were both slow to begin.

ROSEBOROUGH (App M Milford), which was having its first race start, began awkwardly and a short distance later shifted out abruptly.

Approaching the 700m FRISCO’S DIAMOND improved onto the heels of ERIS (G Auckram) and had to be steadied.

ROSEBOROUGH made the home turn awkwardly.

Race 4: MATER MOTHERS & CHILDRENS CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1200m
1st – TYCOON KEN 2nd – CONCHENKA 3rd – BET ‘N’ BARNEY 4th – HOW FRAAR KU DE TA

Trainer V Heading was fined $50 for the late declaration of rider for BUDDHA BABE. (LR 70)

BUDDHA BABE (L Appo) was examined by the club vet behind the barriers prior to the start and passed fit to start.

STEADY POPLAR (M Wood) and HOW FRAAR KU DE TA (App K James) were slow to begin.

BLUE CRUISER (App J Kropp) and BUDDHA BABE both began awkwardly.

Approaching the 1000m CONCHENKA (W Clasohm) shifted out resulting in BLUE CRUISER being taken wider on the track and making heavy contact with PONCHO (H Hamada), which in turn shifted out hampering SHE’S A MODEL (S Bayliss) and TYCOON KEN (C Eaton).

Leaving the 1000m STEADY POPLAR was hampered when BUDDHA BABE shifted in. L Appo was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

When the pace steadied approaching the 900m HOW FRAAR KU DE TA overraced for a short distance.

TYCOON KEN and BLUE CRUSER both raced wide throughout.

BLUE CRUISER made the home turn awkwardly and shifted out resulting in TYCOON KEN being taken wider on the track.

Inside the 100m M. Wood, rider of STEADY POPLAR, was obliged to stop riding to avoid the heels of VICTORY SHIELD (B. Powell) which shifted out under pressure.

A post race examination of BUDDHA BABE failed to reveal any abnormality.

Race 5: MATER EXCEPTIONAL CARE MAIDEN PLATE - 1200m
1st – SUGAR BOTTOM 2nd – MOSCHATA 3rd – HENSON PARK 4th – CAVIALE

RUBARTI (App J. Kropp), PEAK PRINCESS (B. Powell) and BUY’N’SELL (G. Auckram) were all slow to begin.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason MISS ICHI (W Clasohm) was checked approaching the 1000m when racing to the inside of CAVIALE (S Drake) to a time and date to be fixed.

Approaching the 900m HENSON PARK (C Eaton) was momentarily steadied when BEL LE BIRD (L Appo) commenced to lay in.

For some distance leaving the 700m HENSON PARK raced in restricted room to the inside of BEL LE BIRD and approaching the 300m HENSON PARK was crowded for room and was held up for a short distance when BEL LE BIRD again shifted in. In acknowledging that BEL LE BIRD was inclined to lay in, L Appo was nonetheless reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care.

PEAK PRINCESS and RUBARTI both raced wide throughout.

Rounding the hometurn CAVIALE shifted out to improve and in doing so forced RUBARTI wider on the track.

G. Auckram, rider of 5th placegetter BUY’N’SELL was reprimanded for failing to weigh in when required to do so.

When questioned regarding the performance of BEL LE BIRD, L Appo stated that after beginning well and racing in a forward position, BEL LE BIRD failed to respond when placed under pressure at the 500m and although inclined to lay in under pressure during the middle stages, failed to run on and in his opinion was disappointing.

A post race examination of RUBARTI revealed the mare to be sore in the near foreleg. Trainer J Johnston was advised RUBARTI would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
