The Brands and Markings Print out showed YGD 2 over 8. Barrier Certificate No.4069 dated 15/03/02 sighted for Bay Topic which was having its first start. Cool Alley (E.KOWALD) broke through the barriers but was quickly restrained. Bay Topic (J.FELIX) was slow to leave the barriers. Mismatch (M.CULLEN), which was towards the rear of the field, was taken wide making the hone turn to avoid the dust. Jockey J.LONG, rider of Yowie Bay which was placed second, beaten a short head, requested to view the photo finish and was satisfied when he did. RACE 2: CAUSEWAY PRODUCE/OLSSON INDUSTRIES/NORTHERN AIR CONDITIONING CLASS B. HANDICAP - 800 Metres. 7 Starters Swampem (J.FELIX) was fractious in the barriers. Quality Achieved (E.KOWALD) reared several times in the barriers requiring assistance from the barrier attendants. Buderim Boy (J.LONG) was slow into stride at the start. RACE 3: P & N KEEN’S NEXT YEAR CAMP. CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1000 Metres. 6 Starters Remember Tom (J.FELIX) was slow into stride. At about the 800 Metres Exalter (J.STOPPS), shifted inwards, slightly tightening Prince Samurai (E.KOWALD) and Crazy Caper (W.CULLEN). Jockey STOPPS was advised to exercise more care in future. RACE 4: LANDMARK EWAN BRACELET OPEN HANDICAP - 1000 Metres. 10 Starters. A discrepancy was located in relation to the prize money for this event which is dealt with in detail in the General Section of this Report below. Kameruka (J.STOPPS) had its head turned outwards as the barriers gates opened losing minor ground and then jumped inwards and became unbalanced and made light contact with Romberg (E.KOWALD). Romberg (E.KOWALD) stumbled at the start, knuckled and in doing so travelled outwards. Guns Ablaze (W.CULLEN) stepped backwards contacting with the rear of the gate as the gates opened and subsequently was slowly away. At the 600 Metre turn Guns Ablaze which was travelling near the inside in the centre of the field made that turn awkwardly moving to the outside of the field causing the gelding to lose ground. Trainer Mr. E.SEWELL requested to view the film of the start in relation to Guns Ablaze. On viewing the film Mr. SEWELL was satisfied in relation to Guns Ablaze being afforded a fair start. . RACE 5: CATTLEMEN’S PLATE CLASS 5HANDICAP- 1200 Metres. 5 Starters. Jockey P.CULLEN the rider of Souplesse which started odds on favourite and placed third was questioned re the performance of the horse. Jockey CULLEN advised the horse had never travelled well in the running and performed well below expectation. Souplesse appeared to be under pressure from CULLEN from the 600 Metres to improve its position in the small field. ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED. GENERAL. The starts of Races 3, 4 and 5 were rescheduled following repairs being necessitated to the barriers stalls which developed structural problems whilst being moved to the start position between races 2 and 3. The starting stalls are in good condition and well maintained and this problem was completely unforeseeable. The Queensland Racing Calendar for Race 4 on this Programme, (LANDMARK EWAN BRACELET OPEN HANDICAP) advertised the Prize money for this event as Total Prize money $4800 plus a trophy value at $165. First $3120, Second $960, Third $480 and Fourth $240. The Race book advised the Prize money for this event as Total Prize money $4800 plus a trophy value at $165. First $3200, Second $900, Third $475 and Fourth $225. The discrepancy was brought to the attention of the Club Secretary who advised the Prize money advertised in the Race Book is correct. Six Bookmakers, A.BODE, L.MITCHELL, A.REGUSON, D.WHEELER. D.BYRNES and R.MURPHY fielded at this meeting.
