EWAN AMATEUR TURFCLUB INC STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 25/09/2004. (DAY 2)STEWARDS PANEL: R.C.SMITH (Chairman) and C.WATERSWEATHER - FINE & Hot, - TRACK - DIRT - GOOD, - RAIL –TRUE. SCRATCHINGS. - NilRIDER ALTERATION. Nil.RACE 1: SEAGULLS and NORTHERN PROPERTY SERVICES CLASS B HANDICAP . 1000 Metres. 4 Starters. Buderim Boy (J.LONG) was disappointed for a run on the rails approaching the 300 metres and commenced to race erratically, throwing its head. Cool Alley (P.CULLEN) was travelling on the outside of Buderim Boy at this stage but was not disadvantaged. Buderim Boy shortly afterwards obtained a run along the rails. RACE 2: TOWNSVILLE APEX CLASS “A “. HANDICAP - 1200 Metres. 7 Starters Bay Topic (J.FELIX) was slowly into stride and throwing it head and then over raced in the run to the first turn. Physical Ash (P.CULLEN) raced wide in the run to the 600 Metre turn and travelled wider on that turn. Near the 200 Metres, Physical Ash shifted out from behind Lotsa Time to gain a clear run. RACE 3: McDONALD’S TOWNSVILLE CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1000 Metres. 3 Starters In compliance with N.Q. Region Rule N.Q. 1. (5), all weights for this race were raised 1.5kgs. A discrepancy was located in relation to the prize money for this event which is dealt with in detail in the General Section of this Report below. Further as there were only three staters in this event no fourth prize money was payable. No racing incidents. RACE 4: RUPERTSWOOD ESTATE,GEANEYS and SUNCORP EWAN MEMORIAL SHIELD OPEN HANDICAP - 1200 Metres. 8 Starters. In compliance with N.Q. Region Rule N.Q. 1. (5), all weights for this race were raised 0.5kgs. Bunburra Bobby (Ms M.SEAGREN) was slow into stride. Drinks On Me (S.ROOS) jumped outwards at the start making contact with Guns Ablaze (W.CULLEN) who in turn made contact with Souplesse (P.CULLEN). RACE 5: MAC CORE MEMORIAL WARATAH EWAN CUPCLASS 6. HANDICAP- 1600 Metres. 8 Starters. Craigie Again (Ms D.ARMSTRONG) was slow to begin and lost several lengths. Ms ARMSTRONG advised the horse was uneasy in the starting stalls immediately prior to the gates opening and as the start was effected the horse again reared. At about the 1275 Metre area rounding the turn into the back straight Craigie Again was racing on the outside of Comeback Rusty (J.ROOS) and at that point Craigie Again shifted in causing tightening to Comeback Rusty resulting in that gelding having to be eased. At a subsequent inquiry Ms D.ARMSTRONG was reprimanded for Careless Riding (A.R. 137(a). RACE 6: BLUEWATER CLASS 3 HANDICAP- 1300 Metres. 6 Starters. In compliance with N.Q. Region Rule N.Q. 1. (5), all weights for this race were raised 1.5kgs. A discrepancy was located in relation to the Class advertised for this event which is dealt with in detail in the General Section of this Report below. Quality Achieved (P.CULLEN) reared as the gates opened and lost minor ground. At the 600 Meters Mondrian (M.CULLEN) who had been the early leader was tiring and giving ground quickly causing Quality Achieved to be eased to the outside to go around Mondrian. ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED. GENERAL. Race 3, the McDONALD’S Townsville Class 4 Handicap was advertised in the Queensland Racing Calendar as carrying prize money totalling $4250 plus a trophy valued at $100. The Racebook showed the total prize money as $4000 plus a trophy of $100. The Secretary advised that the Race Book prize money of $4000 plus the trophy valued at $100 was correct. The correct prize money being First $2600 plus trophy valued at $100. Second $800. Third $400. Fourth $200. There were in fact only three starters so the fourth prize is not payable. Race Six, the Bluewater Class 3 Handicap was shown as being for Class 2 horses in the Race Book however in the Queensland Racing Calendar this race was advertised as a Class 3 race. The Secretary advised that the race was for Class 3 horses and not as described in the Race Book. Seven Bookmakers, A.BODE, L.MITCHELL, A.REGUSON, D.WHEELER. D.BYRNES, R.MURPHY and D.TAMBLYN fielded at this meeting.
