LOCKYER RACE CLUB STEWARDS REPORT THURS.7.6.01

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD
RACE 1: ERROL & ROCHELLE BACHMANN H'CAP - 1600M.
K. Pope was dislodged from PLAYFUL SPIRIT during the preliminary. Both horse and rider were examined and cleared to take their place in the field.
On jumping away, BEAU REEF shifted out and made contact with MAKE A MARK.
Approaching the 1100m., MISS PFEIFFER had to be checked as a result of MR. INSURANCE shifting in momentarily. G. Lynch, rider of MR. INSURANCE, was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Nearing the 500m., STRIKE had to be momentarily steadied off the heels of CYRENE, which shifted in.
G. Lynch, rider of the 2nd placegetter, MR. INSURANCE, was fined $100 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared weight.
RACE 2: BILL MURRAY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1100M.
COOL BANANA was slow to begin.
CARALOWE shifted in at the start and made contact with CAMBERWELL. A short distance later, CARALOWE shifted out, making contact with TOPARILI.
At the 1000m., MAYFLY, when racing greenly, shifted in and away from SUERAY, resulting in EXCELLENT ANN having to shift in abruptly, tightening the running of TOPARILI. EXCELLENT ANN then commenced to race ungenerously and shifted in, tightening the running of TOPARILI and CAMBERWELL.
Rounding the home turn, COOL BANANA shifted in to obtain a run to the inside of SUERAY and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of CAROLOWE, resulting in that filly becoming unbalanced. D. Gay, rider of COOL BANANA, was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. A short distance later, SUERAY, which had commenced to hang out, made contact with CHILLA NOVA and as a result shifted back in abruptly, tightening both COOL BANANA and CARALOWE, resulting in both runners being hampered.
CHILLA NOVA was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
Trainer D. Smith reported that EXCELLENT ANN had been galloped on on the off hind leg during the event.
The veterinary surgeon reported that COOL BANANA was sore in the off hind and off fore legs
RACE 3: DOUG SCHULTZ H'CAP - 1100M.
BANNING'S PAGE and PRIME SHOW were both slow to begin.
ALFRESCO GIRL shifted out at the start and made contact with FERRY IN.
BANNING'S PAGE ran out making the home turn and raced ungenerously.
At the 800m., FERRY IN had to be steadied and shifted out after improving up on to the heels of RAW COURAGE, resulting in IZAMA LAD being wider on the track. A short distance later, FERRY IN shifted back in, resulting in SAHARA ZOFF, which was following, having to be steadied in consequence.
RACE 4: JACK REIMAN H'CAP - 1100M.
YALLAH CITY and COUNT MELANDRI were both slow to begin.
SON OF DAWN raced ungenerously in the middle stages.
RACE 5: WALLY CROSS H'CAP - 1100M.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by D. Gay, rider of the 4th placegetter, GLENNAL, against MING PALACE being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final 50m.. Whilst stewards found that MING PALACE had shifted in abruptly over the concluding stages under pressure, they were not of the belief that ground lost in the incident warranted a reversal of placings. The protest was therefore dismissed. A short distance after this incident, COUNT YALLAH was momentarily hampered by MING PALACE, which continued to shift in.
On jumping away, CIRCLE OF WHITE shifted out, making heavy contact with TRUSCAN.
Shortly after the start, OCEANIA STAR shifted in, hampering TIMED IT WELL.
Leaving the 500m., MURTAKA overraced and had to be steadied off the heels of GLENNAL.
MURTAKA was held up for clear running over the concluding stages.
RACE 6: MICK BUGLER H'CAP - 1400M.
TOM THUMB reared at the start and lost considerable ground.
Approaching the 1100m., BLACK HENRY, which was inclined to lay in, tightened the running of AMUN UMUN, resulting in AMUN UMUN making solid contact with the running rail. GREAT DISPLAY, which was following, then commenced to overrace and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of BLACK HENRY and AMUN UMUM.
I SEE RED made the first turn awkwardly and shifted out, and then race wide for some distance.
RACE 7: PETER BROOKER H'CAP - 1600M.
No racing incidents.
RACE 8: BILL SODERQUIST H'CAP - 860M.
PAN ZARETA and GAY REALITY were both slow to begin.
GAY REALAITY made the 600m. turn awkwardly and had to be steadied off the heels of MOONLIGHTER.
When struck with the whip close to the finish line, STAR MASTER attempted to buck.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
