LOCKYER RACE CLUB STEWARDS REPORT THURS.11.7.02
STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett (Chairman), Mr C. Clifford, Mr C. McLune, Mr C. Waller (Cadet).
WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD
RACE 1: XXXX GOLD H'CAP - 860M.
Trainer S. Andrew was fined $50 for failing to notify he had removed the blinkers and pacifiers from TEMPLE MASTER.
TEMPLE MASTER was slow to begin. A warning was being issued.
M. Smith-Lester reported that after travelling a short distance his saddle shifted.
Approaching the 600m., BRACKEN GOLD ran off, taking FOREIGN TOUCH and DASHER'S GIRL wider on the track.
Nearing the 500m., MCGOO, when racing greenly, became unbalanced and lost ground when it shifted out, making heavy contact with ZAKARI.
At the 400m., GROOVER shifted out and hampered SOVEREIGN FLYER.
GROOVER made heavy contact with the running rail near the finish line.
ZAKARI had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
A veterinary examination of GROOVER following the race revealed that the horse was found to be suffering from colic.
RACE 2: ROSEMOUNT WINES CLASS 1 - 850M.
SEQUIK was slow to begin.
Approaching the 600m., MADAME RETZ improved on to the heels of STEELY DAWN and blundered as STEELY DAWN was moving towards the rails. LIVA LIVA, which was racing inside MADAME RETZ at that point, was hampered. R. Hancock, rider of STEELY DAWN, was severely reprimanded and advised of his obligations.
RACE 3: SOVEREIGN LAGER SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES TWO-YEARS OLD MAIDEN H'CAP - 1400M.
HIWAY was a little slow to jump and approaching the first turn was inclined to lay out.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE shied at a shadow cast from signage at the winning post, and in doing so shifted on to the hind quarters of MILLSTRIKE.
RACE 4: CAMPBELLS CASH AND CARRY CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1600M.
KWILA SPIRIT jumped inwards at the start and made heavy contact with GREAT SMILE.
C. Small reported that RAVEN BEAUTY slipped near the 900m..
RACE 5: PLAINLANDS HOTEL CLASS 4 H'CAP - 1100M.

CRAIGLEA BELLS blundered on jumping away and shifted out, making heavy contact with ROMAN COUNTY, forcing it on to the hind quarters of COLOUR ME SPECIAL.
CLIFTON BAY was slow to begin.
REGAL GENTLEMAN was obliged to race wide for the majority of the race.
A veterinary examination of BARREL A FUN subsequent to the race revealed the horse to be suffering no visible abnormality.
RACE 6: XXXX BULK LIQUOR MAIDEN H'CAP - 1400M.
Trainer M. Park was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for NIX 'N' KNOTS by the required time.
J. Taylor was dislodged from MORRIS MINOR on the way to the barriers and the horse galloped riderless for a considerable distance before being captured in the 1600m. shute. MORRIS MINOR then failed a subsequent veterinary examination and the horse was withdrawn at 3.13 p.m. when it was found unsuitable to race. All monies invested on MORRIS MINOR were ordered to be refunded in full, with deductions made in accordance with the Racing and Betting Act, that is 10 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 10 cents in the dollar of place bets.
THONG' TONG, EAST HENDRED and BRAVE RETURN were all slow to begin.
On 3 occasions after the start, FAIRTIME and MODERN STYLE made contact.
Rounding the first turn, NIX 'N' KNOTS shifted across the heels of OUTBACK OPUS, taking FREE RADICAL wider on the track.
Approaching the 900m., NIX 'N' KNOTS contacted the hind quarters of EAST HENDRED due to being taken in momentarily by FREE RADICAL.
NIX 'N' KNOTS was held up for clear running for some distance prior to and after the 400m..
In the early stages of the straight, THONG TONG was held up for clear running.
Leaving the 200m., FAIRTIME shifted in and brushed LILY FILOU.
RACE 7: XXXX BITTER H'CAP - 1400M.
BRITANNICUS, SWAPAN and KIMBERLEY'S HOPE were slow to begin.
For some distance leaving the 400m., CELESTIAL SPRINTER had difficulty obtaining clear running.
When questioned concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of SWAPAN, J. Stanley explained that after obtaining a trail behind KIMBERLEY'S HOPE rounding the first turn, he steadied the horse to avoid heels, and SWAPAN then appeared to relax and lost ground despite his efforts. He stated in the middle stages the horse lost ground, and after being hard ridden the horse failed to respond to his riding, and ran home only fairly. A veterinary examination of SWAPAN failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 8: BUNDABERG RUM H'CAP - 1400M.
ZEDALITY, which was fractious in the barriers, jumped away awkwardly.
Rounding the first turn, ZEDALITY commenced to overrace and shifted out, taking ZULU WARRIOR wider on the track.
Approaching the 200m., ZEDALITY and TONTEN were tightened for room by ZULU WARRIOR, which was taken in by IRISH SON, which was inclined to lay in. Whilst IRISH SON was inclined to lay in, A. Merritt, rider of IRISH SON, was advised to exercise more care in future.
Leaving the 200m., IDLER, which was racing inside ZEDALITY, was bumped on the hind quarters.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
