SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

The start to the program was significantly delayed due to repairs having to be carried out on the barrier stalls. After the repairs were completed the starter reported that he had tested the barriers and that they were fully operational. As a result of this delay, the times for all remaining races were rescheduled.

Race 1: XXXX Gold Maiden Plate 1400m
1st – Platinum Touch 2nd – Dubai Falcon 3rd – Lord Bravinger 4th – Hotel Alice

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer T. Crane for the late declaration of rider for PLATINUM TOUCH.

Stewards will interview trainer D. Bell at a later date regarding LA KIRRA being presented to race without pacifiers.

LORD BRAVINGER (S. Apthorpe), CHAVANEL (A. Allen) and FAVERSHAM (L. Finlay) were slow to begin.

Approaching the 1100m, LA KIRRA (A. Nicholls) commenced to over race and then hung out forcing MARKED AFFAIR (B. Cornell) and SILVER ASSASSIN (S. Bayliss) wider on the track.

Near the 1000m, LORD BAVINGER shifted in and was steadied from the heels of DUBAI FALCON (M. Okada)

MARKED AFFAIR, SANGRAAL (A. Butler) and MISS CALIFORNIA (M. O’Brien) raced wide throughout.

Near the 400m, MISS CALIFORNIA was crowded for room between SANGRAAL (A. Allen) and UNFASHIONABLE (S. Bogenhuber) which shifted out slightly.

L. Finlay the rider of FAVERSHAM pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(5)(A)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip in a forehand manner on 8 occasions prior to the 100m. L. Finlay was fined the sum of $200.

When asked to explain the performance of FAVERSHAM, L. Finlay stated that the gelding had worked well since its last start, however was under pressure from the 600m and failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion was most disappointing.

A post race veterinary examination of PLATINUM TOUCH revealed the horse had been galloped on the near hind leg.


Race 2: Gatton Show Society Maiden Plate 1100m
1st – Strombo 2nd – Amber Rae 3rd – Spiffing 4th – Hi Hi

Trainer D. Bowen was reprimanded for submitting an incomplete stable return for DA BAKER.

GOLDEN SERA was declared a late withdrawal at 12.30 pm by stewards acting on veterinary advice when the filly was found to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer S. Thomas was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required for GOLDEN SERA before racing again.

DARK DAN (J. Warrington) was slow to begin.

REENACT FASHION (L. Cumberland) was slow to begin and lost ground.

SPIFFING (P. Wolfgram) began awkwardly and shifted out forcing MOON LANDING (A. Nicholls) out which inconvenienced LISSOY LAD (K. Ashton).

Near the 800m, HI HI (M. O’Brien) was momentarily crowded for room between AMBER RAE (J. Letherby) and DA BAKER (M. Okada) which shifted out slightly. HI HI then improved onto the heels of DA BAKER near the 600m and was steadied.

J. Letherby reported that AMBER RAE laid in when placed under pressure in the straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of REENACT FAHION which finished a distant last failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

J. Letherby the rider of AMBER RAE was found guilty of a charge under AR137(5)(A)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip in a forehand manner on 8 occasions prior to the 100m. J. Letherby was fined the sum of $200.


Race 3: Gatton Tyre Service Maiden Plate 1100m
1st – Ease On By 2nd – General Baxter 3rd – Monashee Success 4th – Whataweapon

Stewards declared STRAIGHTUP HUSTLER a late withdrawal at 8.53 am after receiving a confirmed telephone call from trainer L. Elliott that the gelding had a virus and was unfit to start. Trainer M. Elliott was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required for STRAIGHTUP HUSTLER prior to racing again.

A the start, SIR WILLIAM (S. Apthorpe), MY CALENDAR GIRL (S. Richardson), EXQUISITE DIAMOND (B. Richardson), EASE ON BY (P. Wolfgram) were all hampered when tightened for room between WHATAWEAPON (J. McKinnon) which began awkwardly and shifted out and RAY JOAN (A. Butler) which shifted in.

FITTIPALDI (K. Ashton) was slow to begin.

RAY JOAN (A. Butler), EASE ON BY and FITTIPALDI raced wide throughout.

Near the 800m, SUBSPECIES (J. Warrington) hung out and had to be checked from the heels of TEMPLE GIRL (S. Bogenhuber) which was taken in slightly by MONASHEE SUCCESS (S. Bayliss) which shifted in despite the efforts of the rider. In noting the racing manners of SUBSPECIES, stewards however advised S. Bayliss to exercise care when shifting ground.

Near the 700m, EXQUISITE DIAMOND shifted in abruptly and made heavy contact with the running rail resulting in the filly and the rider becoming unbalanced. Trainer B. Richardson will be advised that a warning will be placed on the racing manners of EXQUISITE DIAMOND.

MY CALENDAR GIRL raced wide from the 600m.

On entering the straight, FITTIPALDI shifted out and bumped EXQUISITE DIAMOND. Leaving the 100m, FITTIPALDI again shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of EXQUISITE DIAMOND which became unbalanced, a short distance later EXQUISITE DIAMOND shifted in and bumped FITTIPALDI which then shifted in and made contact with SUBSPECIES which had to be checked when taken across the heels of RAY JOAN.

A.Butler reported that he felt there was something amiss with the action of RAY JOAN. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer B. Baldwin was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required for RAY JOAN before racing again.

B. Richardson reported that she felt there was something amiss with the action of EXQUISITE DIAMOND. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.


Race 4: Vikings Futsal Class 3 Handicap 1100m
1st – Silva Nova 2nd – Nicaise 3rd – Gold Land 4th – Tea Tattle

The start of this race was delayed by ten minutes due to ambulance officers being required to attend to an injured patron.

BELLREGO (B. Cornell) and ROFRA (W. Clasohm) began awkwardly.

CRIMSON FIRE (J. Letherby) began awkwardly and lost ground.

A short distance after the start SILVA NOVA shifted out and forced ROFRA wider on the track, ROFRA was then obliged to race wide throughout.

CHARENTELLE (S. Bayliss) and KOPIAN (L. Cumberland) raced wide throughout.

TEA TATTLE (B. Richardson) laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey W. Clasohm regarding the performance of ROFRA. He stated that due to the delay at the barriers the mare had sweated up noticeably. He added that he endeavoured to ride forward as per his instructions however ROFRA was forced to race wide and never travelled at any stage and in his opinion would be suited over further ground when given an opportunity to settle. He further added that ROFRA however would benefit from today’s race.


Race 5: Brittwood Constructions Class 1 Handicap 860m
1st – Morrison 2nd – Tycoon Angel 3rd – Thursday Joy 4th – Seaside Dancer

VICTORY SHIELD became fractious in the enclosure and when reluctant to proceed to the barriers, backed into the enclosure fence. A veterinary examination cleared the gelding to race. Trainer M. Abbey was advised that a warning would be placed on the pre-race manners of VICTORY SHIELD and that a repetition would lead to further action being taken.

LIKE A BIRD (S. Egan) was fractious in the barriers prior to the start.

TYCOON ANGEL (B. Richardson) and NORSE INVADER (S. Bogenhuber) were slow to begin.

Leaving the 700m, VICTORY SHIELD had to be steadied when THURSDAY JOY (P. Wolfgram) shifted in, VICTORY SHIELD then hung out for a short distance.

TYCOON ANGEL and NOVA ICE (K. Ashton) raced wide throughout.

Rounding the home turn NOVA ICE shifted out and bumped TYCOON ANGEL.

Leaving the 150m, TYCOON ANGEL shifted in under pressure and made contact with NOVA ICE which became unbalanced, as result B. Richardson had to stop riding and straighten TYCOON ANGEL which again shifted in over the concluding stages. B. Richardson in all of the circumstances was advised of her obligation to stop riding and straighten her mounts when they commence to shift ground.


Race 6: Mulgowie Hotel Gatton Cup Open Handicap 2200m
1st – Molotov 2nd – Beartracker 3rd – Cross Town Traffic 4th – Kinsmate

Stewards considered an application from jockey N. Evans to be permitted to be replaced as the rider of CROSS TOWN TRAFFIC as he was engaged to ride at the Toowoomba meeting and due to the delay of today’s races he was left with insufficient time to travel to that meeting. After close consideration and consultation with the connections of CROSS TOWN TRAFFIC and bearing in mind the circumstances that had arisen, stewards acceded to N. Evans application and approved M. Dorrington as the replacement rider. No further action was taken.

STEP FORWARD (S. Apthorpe) and PRIDE OF POLAND (G. Goold) made contact on jumping away.

UNCLE JAN (A. Smith) was slow to begin.

KENNY’S MAGIC (K. Gates) raced wide passing the winning post on the first occasion.

M. Abe the rider of ELEGANCE DRAGON was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 800m when insufficiently clear of PRIDE OF POLAND (App G. Goold) which had to be restrained when tightened for room and lost ground. In this incident MOLOTOV (A. Nicholls) which was following was checked as a consequence. M. Abe license to ride in races was suspended for 6 meetings to commence at midnight 4 June 2011 up to and including midnight 13 June 2011.

BEARTRACKER (A. Butler) and UNCLE JAN raced wide from the 800m.

STEP FORWARD was held up and unable to improve from the 600m until the 400m, when awkwardly placed on the heels of ROCKY GROUND which had commenced to weaken.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the riding tactics and performance of ROCKY GROUND (J. Kehoe) to a time and date to be fixed to allow trainer P. Wallace to provide evidence. A post-race veterinary examination of ROCKY GROUND revealed lacerations to both hind legs.


Race 7: Wellington Point Bowls Club Class B Handicap 1600m
1st – Kumali 2nd – Smarty Smart 3rd – Chinsky 4th – Macho Cat

CHINSKY (M. Okada) was slow to begin.

HAVEN PRINCESS (J. Letherby) began awkwardly.

Shortly after the start SIR SCOOTER (A. Butler) was tightened for room between PRIVATE BOUNTY (J. Kehoe) and IMPOSING ROYAL (S. Bayliss) when both horses shifted ground.

PEGASUS PRIDE (A. Erhart) over raced for a short distance approaching the 1100m.

PRIVATE BOUNTY hung out rounding the turn near the 1100m and then was obliged to race wide throughout.

KINTYRELYUPTOYOU (A. Allen) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey A. Butler the rider of SIR SCOOTER which trailed the field throughout and finished a distant last. He stated that his mount was tightened shortly after the start and then was difficult to steer rounding the first turn near the 1100m. He added that the gelding never travelled well at any stage and was under pressure throughout. When interviewed trainer S. McCarthy stated he was extremely disappointed with the performance of SIR SCOOTER and it was his to now considering retiring the gelding.
