NUGGETS NOT ROCKS became fractious when SHOOT FER LOVE was reluctant to load in the adjoining barrier and dislodged A. Erhart. Jockey A. Erhart was uninjured in this incident and ruled fit to ride.

Race 2: P.A Hospital Nurses Maiden Plate 1100m
1st – Red Creek 2nd – Our Little Missy 3rd – Excellent Elite 4th – Liadain
Correct weight was delayed to allow S. Drake the rider of OUR LITTLE MISSY to view the photo finish print for first. After viewing the Stewards footage of the concluding stages of the race, S. Drake was satisfied that she had run second and correct weight was declared.
ROYAL BATTALION (G. Geran) and EMBOLINO (W. Clasohm) were tightened for room at the start between LISSOY LAD (S. Egan) and OUR LITTLE MISSY (S. Drake) which shifted out.
Near the 1000m SIR WILLIAM shifted out and away from VOZAMIAT (M. Abe) and made heavy contact with TUSCAN AFFAIR which became unbalanced.
Leaving the 800m ROYAL BATTALION was steadied from the heels of TUSCAN AFFAIR which shifted in when racing greenly.
LIADAIN (M. O’Brien) and QUEEN ROSE (J. Hoopert) raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey G. Geran and trainer P. MacGinley with regard to the performance of ROYAL BETTALION. G. Geran stated that he did not have any specific riding instructions, however after ROYAL BETTALION did not begin well the horse then did not show any real pace when urged along. He added that he applied pressure to his mount from leaving the 800m but the gelding did not respond to his riding. He further added that ROYAL BETTALION felt flat in the straight and that he believed there may have been something amiss with the horse. P. MacGinley confirmed that he not given any specific riding instructions and added that the performance was disappointing. He further added that ROYAL BETTALION had had some feet problems early in its preparation when he had taken over the training of the gelding but was at a loss to explain the performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Stewards questioned apprentice M. O’Brien with regards to the tactics she adopted on LIADAIN, in particular the reasons for her easing her mount leaving the 800m which resulted in her mount losing ground. M. O’Brien stated that LIADAIN had a tendency to miss the start in the past and her instructions today were to ride the horse positively from the barriers. She added that the horse jumped well today but when riding forward found herself caught four wide without cover. She further added that leaving the 800m she elected to ease her mount to obtain a position following VOZAMIAT however LIADAIN threw its head in the air and raced ungenerously for a short distance. M. O’Brien stated that as she was still racing extremely wide when she again elected to ease her mount behind SIR WILLIAM leaving the 700m, on this occasion LIADAIN relaxed and dropped the bit and as a result lost some ground which she had not anticipated. M. O’Brien advised Stewards that she had been a victim of circumstances in the early stages and had made a decision to obtain running closer to the rail and not sustain a wide run throughout. Trainer G. Nightingale confirmed the instructions and stated that he agreed with M. O’Brien’s decision to afford LIADAIN an easier run by obtaining a position closer to the rail. Stewards advised M. O’Brien that her riding had come under notice, in particular her mount losing ground from the 700m, however stewards were of the opinion that M. O’Brien’s riding was not unreasonable in the circumstances and accepted the explanations tendered.
Race 3: Cooks Transport Class B Handicap 1100m
1st – Sky Lucy 2nd – Coco Baby 3rd – Mr Pin Wa 4th – Commanding Lass
Trainer B. Clark was reprimanded for the late declaration of S. Bogenhuber as the rider of ARABIAN GARDEN.
Stewards permitted M. Abe to ride IZACHAMP a half a kilogram over the geldings declared weight.
The start to this race was delayed when ANOTHER WELCOME (J.Letherby) took charge of the rider and completed a circuit of the track. The start was further delayed when FAIR SWAP became fractious in the barriers, reared dislodging the rider and breaking through the barriers and galloped a significant distance. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of ANOTHER WELCOME on veterinary advice and FAIR SWAP at 2.56 pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on both runners be refunded, and that the following deductions be made to the face value of all winning tickets
No. 2 - 3 cents the win

A post race veterinary examination of ANOTHER WELCOME revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer R. Mackay was advised that an official warning would be placed against the pre-race manners of ANOTHER WELCOME and that he must provide a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to racing again.
DEEP FAITH (S. Drake) which broke through the front of the barriers and cantered a short distance before being restrained, underwent a veterinary inspection and was passed to race.
IZACHAMP began awkwardly and lost ground.
UNANIMOUS DECISION (M. O’Brien) blundered shortly after the start.
Near the 800m UNANIMOUS DECISION was steadied when IZACHAMP shifted in slightly. M. Abe was advised exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
SKY LUCY (K. Yoshida) hung out from the 400m until entering the home straight.
MR PIN WA (J. Hoopert) was forced wider on the track rounding the home turn by DEEP FAITH (S. Drake) which shifted ground.
COMMANDING LASS (G. Geran) laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
Stewards interviewed S. Drake with regards to the tactics she adopted on DEEP FAITH where the mare raced outside the eventual leader while setting a fast tempo. S. Drake stated her instructions were to lead or sit just off the speed, however after DEEP FAITH had broken through the barriers earlier, her mount had then fired up and would not settle through the early and middle stages. She added that when SPARTANEOUS pushed up to her inside and led, she would have ideally liked to restrain her mount and come back behind the speed, however the circumstances did not permit her to be able to do this. When interviewed, trainer L. Richardson stated that he had instructed S. Drake to lead on DEEP FAITH and not to fight her as she does have a tendency to pull when restrained. He added that he felt the mare had just got too fired up after breaking through the barriers earlier and that she may have been a bit fresh after having a short spell since the last run on 24 December 2011. Stewards noted the explanations.

WINDS OF FIRE raced wide in the early stages.
MONTALBERT (D. McWhinney), GO ON GREG (M. O’Brien) and MONASHEE MATTY all raced wide throughout.
MONASHEE MATTY which commenced to over race had to be restrained from the heels of MASTER FIBBA approaching the 900m.
G. Geran the rider of MONASHEE MATTY reported that he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of the gelding, adding that the horse was inclined to lay out and that he was obliged to race wide throughout.

Leaving the 700m NOELA’S ROMP improved up onto the heels of LOOK AT CHU (A. Holt) and had to be checked.
