WOMEN BE SHOPPING hung out approaching and rounding the home turn.

Near the 250m PERFECT RAINBOW was held up momentarily when disappointed for a run between CREDIT MISS which shifted out slightly and WOMEN BE SHOPPING.

Stewards questioned S. Bogenhuber regarding the disappointing performance of HOT AUNTY. She stated that after the filly was slow to begin it made up ground and travelled well behind the leaders. She added that she asked HOT AUNTY improve from the 400m, however the horse did not respond to her riding and proved disappointing. She further added that while the filly felt fine it did wobble around the turn and when placed under pressure in the early part of the straight, nevertheless she was at loss to explain the performance. Trainer S. Andrew was unable to explain the performance only to add that HOT AUNTY was up 6 kilograms in weight from its last start. He added that the filly had been working well leading up to today’s race. Stewards in noting the explanations requested that S. Andrew report to stewards any findings in the following days that may explain the performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

Stewards questioned Apprentice B. Ainsworth (EMBRAER) regarding her shifting out rounding the home turn and continuing to shift extremely wide in the straight under pressure. She stated that her instructions were not to lead and to judge her final run as to ensure the horse does not obtain the lead too soon. She added that when making her run EMBRAER shifted out rounding the home turn and while she had the whip in her left hand, the horse continued to shift out in the straight until she was able to balance the horse near the 200m in which it then finished the race off well. Trainer N. Harrison confirmed the instructions adding that the horse is best held up for one final run. Stewards advised Ms Ainsworth that in their opinion she had erred in her riding, in that when EMBRAER initially shifted out rounding the home turn she should have stopped riding and straightened her mount before continuing to pressure it. Stewards were mindful however of B. Ainsworth’s relative inexperience and advised her that the ride would be drawn to the attention of the Racing Queensland apprentice training manager.
