On return to scale a protest was lodged by T. Watson the rider of 3rd placed TSAR RULER against WASHY (D. Johnstone) being declared 1st alleging interference approaching the 50 metres. At the protest inquiry it was found that approaching the 50 metres, D. Johnstone, the rider of WASHY shifted out abruptly resulting in TSAR RULER having to be steadied and alter course. However, Stewards were of the opinion that where the incident took place that it would have no bearing on the result due to the margin and the protest was dismissed.

Shortly after the start, STAY ME BROKE was severely hampered when BUCKHEAD shifted out and CULATER was taken in by TSAR RULER.

Approaching the 800 metres, apprentice D. Johnstone, the rider of WASHY, accidentally dropped his whip.

Apprentice M. McDonald was questioned in regard to his riding tactics on STAY ME BROKE in the early and middle stages. M. McDonald stated that he had been instructed, if possible, to have the mare positioned mid-field. However, after suffering interference shortly after the start, he attempted to improve, however the mare failed to respond to his urging in the early and middle stages. Apprentice McDonald stated that he may have erred by not attempting to use the whip on STAY ME BROKE in the early and middle stages.
