Supplementary Report
From Gatton 27.08.2011
Race 5 - Due to a miscommunication, no action was taken against trainer H. Norman for the late notification of a tongue tie to the gear worn by Glow Road.
Race 1: Grand Hotel QTIS Mdn Plt – 1000m
1st – Sansira 2nd – Craiglea Barkly 3rd – Shadowy Past 4th – Craiglea Mandy
The start of this race was delayed due to CRAIGLEA AVON (App E. O’Connell), which was fractious in the barriers, rearing and losing its bridle. The bridle was re-fitted whilst the filly remained in its barrier stall prior to the start being affected.
BANDOLIER (L. Henry) was slow to begin.
UPTOWN EAGLE (App K. Gates) was slow into stride.
CRAIGLEA BARKLY (S. Bayliss) raced wide throughout.
SHADOWY PAST (App R. Jamieson) was inclined to lay-in under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride out.
When questioned regarding the below market expectations performance of UPTOWN EAGLE, App K Gates stated that after the mare began only fairly she was under pressure in the early stages to maintain in contact with the remainder of the field. She added that she believed that UPTOWN EAGLE would be better suited over distances further than today’s race and that the trainer had indicated to her that its next start would more than likely be over 1200m or more.
Race 2: Burnett Construction Materials Class 2 H’cap – 1000m
1st – Dom Paolo 2nd – Calaraben 3rd – She’ll Be Dancing 4th – Governor Royal
LONGTIMENOSEE (S. Bayliss) was very slow into stride and lost considerable ground as a result. Trainer T. Moloney was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners. Jockey S. Bayliss reported that he believed that LONGTIMENOSEE resented the kick-back from other horses in front once it got back in the field and this contributed to its seemingly disappointing performance.
A post-race Veterinary examination of DOM PAOLO (L. McCoy) revealed the gelding to have suffered from a bleeding attack. Trainer J. Herne was advised that as this was the first occasion that the horse had bled it was barred from racing for 3 months and would be required to gallop 1000m before a Steward prior to be permitted to race again.
Race 3: Golden Orange Hotel Class B H’cap – 1200m
1st – Fourth of July 2nd – Booyah 3rd – Get Ditty With It 4th – Freekeh
CARLISLE JOHN (S. Bayliss), CRAIGLEA PRISTINE (App E. O’Connell) and MANEROO CRUISE (C. Kearney) were all slow to begin.
CAM’S MAGIC (App J. King) and MANEROO CRUISE raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Brown’s Citrus Transport Open H’cap – 1400m
1st – Craiglea Blondie 2nd – Mount Vernon 3rd – Dane Rhythm 4th – Winger In
GOLD WAR was declared a late scratching at 1.25pm due to transport difficulties.
MOUNT VERNON (App K. Gates) and CRAIGLEA BLONDIE (App E. O’Connell) were both slow into stride.
CRAIGLEA BLONDIE raced wide in the middle stages when improving to take up a position outside the lead near the 400m.
WINGER IN (C. Kearney) blundered at the 500m.
GO ON GREG (L. McCoy) was galloped-on on its off hind leg.
Race 5: McCitrus Class 3 Plt – 1400m
1st – Time Slips By 2nd – Challoman 3rd – Kamadiva 4th – Desemay
JOLEC (L. Henry) which made contact with the fence in the mounting yard was examined at the barriers by the Veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
FRENCH SUSPECT (C. Kearney) began awkwardly.
JOLEC began awkwardly and lost ground as a result.
FAMOUS CRY (App G. Goold) and FUZZALAMA (App J. King) were slow to begin.
KAMADIVA (L. McCoy) raced very wide in the early stages.
TIME SLIPS BY (S. Bayliss) raced wide in the early stages.
ROCKIN RILEY (App R. Jamieson) raced wide throughout.
The rider of FUZZALAMA, apprentice J. King, reported that they were held-up for a run at the 350m and were obliged to shift wider on the track in order to obtain clear running, and in his opinion the gelding finished the race off well.
When questioned regarding the below market expectations performance of SECRET WILL, jockey D. Gill stated that she believed the gelding did not appreciate the weight it was asked to carry in today’s race in comparison to its most recent starts when it has been ridden by apprentices with the benefit of their respective claims.
The trainer of ROCKIN RILEY, Mr P. Moncrieff, reported that the gelding was slightly sore immediately following the race; however, in the days following the race had recovered well and had pleased him in his work on the Tuesday morning. He added that he intended to continue with the gelding’s current preparation.
