RACE 1 – MIGHT AND POWER HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

PERISSA BAY was slow away.

Rounding the home turn COME ON GRACE had to be checked when crowded for room between ROVING MINSTREL which was taken out slightly by CRACK A JACK MAC and NATURAL MOVER which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. In all the circumstances no direct action was taken however, Jockey L. DITTMAN (NATURAL MOVER) was issued with a reprimand for failing to make a greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting in.

Trainer L K. Tinsley was questioned regarding the poor performance of ROVING BOY today after the gelding finished a distant last. He explained that ROVING BOY became unbalanced on a section of the track when entering the course proper and may have suffered an injury. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon’s inspection of ROVING BOY revealed no obvious abnormality and the gelding was sent to be swabbed.



RACE 2 – CONRAD JUPITERS HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

On jumping CRONICK and HI TAIL IT bumped.

Inside the 1100 metres MARDUK had to be restrained off the heels of ROCKET BALL which shifted in momentarily and as a result MARDUK continued to overrace for some distance.

Inside the 1000 metres MARDUK again had to be restrained to avoid the heels of FIELD GOAL.

Near the 600 metres HI TAIL IT had to be checked to avoid the heels of RISING ROYAL which was taken out slightly by EYE IN THE SKY which was inclined to hang.





RACE 3 – LORD BEN HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

Due to a clerical error G. BOSS did not appear in the racebook as the declared rider of KLARSYNT.

It was noted after the race that PARIS FORTUNE bled from the off side nostril only.



RACE 4 – COCA-COLA “QUEEN OF THE TURF” HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

NEARLY A STAR was slow away.

On jumping VAIN NEDIYM shifted out and hampered BOOROONGA.

Inside the 1000 metres AUSSIE MORNING blundered.

Approaching the 400 metres NEARLY A STAR had to be steadied when crowded for room between CORONATION WAYS and ANNUNCIATION both of which shifted ground slightly.

For some distance in the early stages of the home straight CHOICE GLARE had difficulty in obtaining clear running.



RACE 5 – CARBINE CLUB HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

On jumping POINT DANGER shifted in crowding BLACK SAILS and GOLD TOOTH MALOUF which lost considerable ground.

For some distance in the early stages of the straight GOLD TOOTH MALOUF was unable to obtain clear running and nearing the 200 metres shifted out and bumped KALASTAIRE after being taken out slightly by MOTHER’S GIFT.

PARIS DREAM suffered a bleeding attack from both nostrils and is subsequently ineligible to race for a period of three months.



RACE 6 – CONRAD JUPITERS PRIME MINISTERS CUP – 2400 METRES

As there were no other suitable riders available J. MARSHALL was permitted to ride OUR TRIOMPHE one kilo overweight. He was subsequently issued with a reprimand for accepting a ride when overweight. Stewards took into account J. MARSHALL’S unblemished record in this area.

YIPPYIO was slow away.

On at least two occasions inside the final 200 metres both PERPETUAL CHECK and YIPPYIO bumped.



RACE 7 – COUNTERACT R.O.D.E. SYSTEMS KEN RUSSELL MEMORIAL CLASSIC
SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES – 1400 METRES

WHISTLER shifted out abruptly at the start causing STONY GROVE to be checked severely and lose considerable ground.


Soon after the start COLOSSESUM, WHISTLER and REFUSED THE DANCE were all crowded for room between CLAYTONS and BRIAR’S ARMY which was taken in by LET’S COMPROMISE when not sufficiently clear. The Stewards were of the view that there were a number of contributing circumstances and for this reason no direct action was taken however, C. CARMODY (LET’S COMPROMISE) was issued with a severe reprimand for letting his mount shift in when not sufficiently clear.

J. BYRNE (CLAYTONS) explained that his mount never handled today’s rain affected track conditions at any stage and was under pressure from the 1200 metres.



RACE 8 – PAULS A.D. HOLLINDALE CUP – 1800 METRES

G. BOSS was stood down by Club’s Doctor and the Stewards permitted M. CAHILL as the rider of LADY ELSIE and MALTESE SPEED STAR (Race 9).

Near the 1000 metres ANTHEMS had to be checked to avoid the heels of ARKADY.

Approaching the winning post M. PELLING (CHAMPAGNE SPRING) was obliged to stop riding to avoid the heels of TOBRUK.



RACE 9 – JIM DONNELLAN HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

On jumping SEALAND shifted out and hampered TRIST OF FATE and VIVACIOUS KATE.

In the early stages MALTESE SPEED STAR was inclined to overrace.

Approaching the 1000 metres TRIST OF FATE had to be checked off the heels of KHYRAAT and from that point refused to settle.




NINE WINNERS PLUS ROVING BOY WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
