RACE 1 – BIRKBECK’S JEWELLERS – THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES
Inside the final 200 metres SPORTS ROMANCE which was racing greenly shifted in forcing ROMANTIC REGION in across the rightful running of ECKERSLEY AVENUE resulting in that horse being eased.
When questioned regarding his apparent lack of vigour in the home straight Jockey P BROWN (ROMANTIC REGION) explained that he was unable to ride his mount out in his normal manner as the filly had a tendency to hang in. He also added that he was obliged to change his whip from his right hand to his left hand in an effort to keep his mount on a straight course.
Rounding the home turn ROBELLINO hung out and finished extremely wide in the straight.
In the home straight CAPE CREOLE was inclined to lay in under pressure.
RACE 2 – LONGINES SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
On jumping SPEED RUN, TARIAMA and ALMIGHTY ALLIANCE were crowded for room between INDIVIDUALIST and PRINCELY POWER which shifted out abruptly.
Inside the 1,200 metres PULMAN’S RETREAT shifted in momentarily causing some crowding to ALMIGHTLY ALLIANCE which subsequently had to be eased.
Leaving the 400 metres until nearing the 200 metres JEAN was disappointed for clear running.
It was noted that PRINCELY POWER raced very greenly throughout the race.
S GALLOWAY (JEAN) was questioned regarding the manner in which he rode his mount, in particularly over the final 200 metres, and he explained that he refrained from using the whip and opted to ride his mount out hands and heels as he was of the opinion that JEAN was performing at her best. S GALLOWAY was reminded of his obligations under the rules to fully test his mounts wherever possible.
A veterinary examination of PRINCELY POWER after that gelding finished a distant last revealed signs of lameness in the off hind leg. The representative for Trainer B BALDWIN was advised that PRINCELY POWER must perform in a barrier trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before it is permitted to race again.
RACE 3 – ROYAL SELANGOR MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,800 METRES
EARLY SERF was slowly away.
Inside the 600 metres SHORE SHOT which was endeavouring to shift out to improve made contact with SAY IT AGAIN and subsequently SHORE SHOT shifted back in forcing HONOUR ROLL across the heels of KING CANOBOLAS. This caused HONOUR ROLL to blunder and almost dislodge its rider. The stewards were satisfied that in all the circumstances no one rider could be held responsible for the incident and therefore no further action was taken.
Soon after entering the home straight TOP TORQUE was momentarily disappointed for clear running between EARLY SERF and STRONG CONVICTIONS.
Near the 300 metres MASQUERADE shifted in slightly making contact with WINTER EXPRESS which in turn shifted in and hampered SHORE SHOT which then had to be restrained off the heels of KING CANOBOLAS.
RACE 4 – BOHEMIA CRYSTAL CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 2,200 METRES
No report.
RACE 5 – LLADRO CLASS 1 HADICAP – 900 METRES
On jumping HALOGEN STAR shifted in abruptly crowding ROWDY BOY, MINORI EXPRESS and TYLER which had to be checked.
Leaving the 600 metres ROWDY BOY hung out making the home turn extremely wide.
RACE 6 – DON SHEIL FILLIES & MARES CLASS 2 HANDICAP
Trainer A BAILEY was fined $50 for nominating VAIN NEDIYM for this particular race for which it was
ineligible.
A short distance after the start KENTESSA LADY was eased when crowded for room between DANCER’S RHYTHM and FORGIVENESS both of which shifted ground slightly.
Inside the 200 metres SAGINAW had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MISS NINJAH which shifted in slightly.
Also over the final 200 metres DANCER’S RHYTHM failed to obtain clear running and subsequently went to the line not fully tested.
RACE 7 – LONGINES COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES
Trainer B McLACHLAN was fined $50 for nominating BUCK’S LAD for this particular race for which it was ineligible.
In the early and middle stages GO JUAN GO was inclined to over-race.
Near the 200 metres MCPALATIAL had to be checked when TOPPED UP shifted out slightly and LARGER shifted in when weakening. B MASON (LARGER) was advised to exercise care wherever possible when his mounts have a tendency to shift ground.
RACE 8 –BIRKBECK’S JEWELLERS WELTER – 1,200 METRES
HAYNICK was slowly away.
Rounding the home turn GOD’S RULE and JIMBOOMBA JACK bumped.
Near the 100 metres PRINCE NATHAN was momentarily crowded for room between HAYNICK and RED AND TOUGH which shifted in slightly under pressure.
EIGHT WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
