WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - DEAD RAIL - TRUE POSITION
GENERAL: From GCTC meeting, 5.2.00
Apprentice D. Wheeler was fined $100 in accordance with the provisions of LR51(1), in that he neglected to fulfil his engagement on Tempel Tuttle, for which he was engaged on this particular day.

Trainer S.B. Laming was fined the sum of $100 in accordance with the provisions of AR 80, in that he failed to ensure all of his runners engaged for today's meeting were attended to at all times
RACE 1: DUNGUNNIN TWO YER OLD MAIDEN H'CAP - 1300M.
IMPERIAL ECHO was a late scratching at 11.33 a.m. on veterinary advice.
As there were no other senior riders available, stewards permitted M. Bennett to ride SAINT MACKILLOP 1 kg overweight.
HAREBA JAY was slowly away.
Shortly after the start, ZINTA lost ground when tightened for room between SCRANTON and SAINT MACKILLOP, which was taken out by EMMAKAY.
Rounding the home turn, MY BLUE FLYER was inclined to hang out.
Jockeys S. Shield (BOSSY LADY) and T. Duckett (EMMAKAY) were both fined $100 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram overweight.
RACE 2: ROMANTIC DREAM MAIDEN H'CAP - 1400M.
L. Harris replaced the overweight M. Bennett as the rider of LAVROS KNIGHT. M. Bennett was fined the sum of $200 in accordance with the provisions of AR 120(b) for accepting rides on both SAINT MACKILLOP and LAVROS KNIGHT for which he was found to be over his declared weight.
Apprentice A. Morrison was fined $100 for failing to claim all of his 2 kg allowance.
Near the 300m., ANOTHER ROAD had to be steadied when disappointed for clear running between JOANNA'S SCENT and EUREKA STORM.
Over the concluding stages, T. Pattillo (LEICA NATURAL) was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount when it was inclined to lay in.
A. Merritt (EASY CORE) was fined $100 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared weight.
Trainer J. Nikolic was issued with a reprimant for adding gear after the jockey had weighed out.
RACE 3: PACIFIC PRINCE CLASS 4 H'CAP -
Trainer G. Ryan was fined $50 for nominating AKAABER'S PROMISE for this race for which it was found to be ineligible.
Stewards questioned apprentice A. Morrison and Mr M. Craig, the representative for trainer S.B. Laming, regarding the manner in which DESERT PHOENIX was ridden today as compared to its previous starts where it has been able to lead. Apprentice Morrison explained he was instructed to go forward and lead today, however if there was too much early speed to take a sit. He said he elected to do the latter when PENDOLINO showed speed and appeared to be adamant in leading. Apprentice A. Morrison also stated that for some distance rounding the home turn he was unable to go forward when disappointed for a run between PENDOLINO and ACE RULE. Mr M. Craig indicated to the stewards he was satisfied with the manner in which the gelding was ridden today and confirmed the instructions. Their explanations were noted.
Stewards questioned S. Galloway (ACE RULE) as to the reason why DESERT PHOENIX was able to to obtain a run to the inside of him soon after entering the home straight. He explained that he directed his mount wider on the track as in his opinion the surface was superior to sections closer to the fence. His explanation was noted.
RACE 4: PACIFIC PRINCE CLASS 4 H'CAP - 1200M.
On jumping, MANSOURAH was checked when crowded for room between SIGNBAH and RHYTHMIC KING, both of which shifted ground.
RACE 5: COPPERAMA CLASS 3 H'CAP -
Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of HALOGEN today, and after considering evidence from apprentice A. Morrison, his master Mr D. Morrison, part owner Mr A. Delaney and stable foreman for trainer B. Laming, Mr M. Craig, stewards adjourned the matter to a date to be fixed.
RACE 6: RIVERDALE CLAS 1 H'CAP - 1800M.
No incidents.
RACE 7: RASS FLYER CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1200M.
Near the 1000m., WORTHWHILE MONEY shifted in when not quite clear, causing some crowding to PRIDE OF THE TURF and WINGS AWAY, which had to be restrained to avoid the heels of LARABIA. N. Jolly, rider of WORTHWHILE MONEY, was issued with a reprimand and reminded of his obligations.
A veterinary examination of AIR DONNY after the race revealed that gelding to have bowed its near fore superficial flexor tendon during the race. Subsequently the horse was lame in the near fore leg.
RACE 8: TEMPLE FRONT CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1400M.
Trainer G. Stewart was fined $50 for failing to present DARCY DANCER on course by the prescribed time.
Approaching the 1000m., ZUCCARO shifted in when not quite clear, resulting in CENTURY'S GIFT being restrained to avoid that horse's heels. T. Duckett (ZUCCARO) was issued with a reprimand.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of JEAN today, L. Hill explained that approaching the 1000m. he was required to restrain his mount to avoid the heels of COME ON KENNY, and then approaching the 600m. his mount lost ground after making contact with the hind quarters of MICKANTO when he was attempting to hold MICKANTO into a pocket. Jockey Hill added that even taking these 2 incidents into account, the filly raced below her best. A veterinary examination of JEAN after the race revealed the filly had struck itself on the off fore superficial flexor tendon and subsequently sustained a contusion in this area. A swab sample was taken from JEAN.
ALL WINNERS AND JEAN WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
