GENERAL

From Gold Coast Turf Club – 1 July 2000 – Race 7 Lladro Class 3 Handicap – 1,400 Metres

Trainer BRUCE BROWN reported on Wednesday 5 July 2000 that FEE FI PO had subsequently pulled up sore in both hind quarters after its run and in his view this would have had a significant bearing on the gelding’s poor performance.

After considering submissions by Bookmaker M FEWSTER regarding his use of a mobile telephone during the course of today’s meeting, the stewards decided not to take any direct action however, he was issued with a reprimand under Local Rule 118A.

RACE 1 – JIM BEAM MAIDEN HANDICAP DIV. 1 – 1,800 METRES

The start of this race was delayed when MIDNIGHT DEAL became fractious in the barriers which also caused OTHAPUS in the adjacent stall to become very fractious. Both horses were subsequently withdrawn at 11.26 a.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice. Prior to the announcement of ‘correct weight’ all monies invested on OTHAPUS and MIDNIGHT DEAL were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 25 cents in the dollar for a win and 23 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer Mrs A ASPINALL was advised that she must obtain a further barrier certificate for MIDNIGHT DEAL before it is permitted to race again.

NEDSYND was slowly away.

Approaching the 1,000 metres ARGINESS shifted out to improve and in doing so made heavy contact on at least two occasions with PROFESSIONAL GIRL.

Stewards questioned Jockey R KENDALL as to the reason why MAJUSTAR was retired out of the event at the top of the home straight and he explained that the horse commenced to hang out from the 1,000 metres and in doing so resulted in the bit being pulled through the MAJUSTAR’s mouth and the bridle being pulled over one ear. A veterinary examination of MAJUSTAR revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer G PATON was advised that MAJUSTAR must compete in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before it is permitted to race again.

BEER BELLY BOB commenced to hang out off the track leaving the 1,000 metres placing its rider at a distinct disadvantage. Trainer G CLUNES was advised that BEER BELLY BOB must perform in a barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards before it is permitted to race again.

Stewards questioned Trainer R BALCOMBE regarding the poor performance of COURTNEY GIRL today and he advised stewards that the mare would now be retired from racing.


RACE 2 – QUEENSLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY MAIDEN HANDICAP DIV. 2 – 1,800 METRES

Stewards accepted the explanation from Trainer K DEVINE for the apparent failure to declare a rider for THAT DREAM by the prescribed time.

RACE 3 – WORKFORCE ONE (TWO-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – DIV. 1 – 1,200 METRES

GRAND RESERVE raced quite erratically in the early and middle stages of the race and near the 700 metres shifted in for no apparent reason making heavy contact with the running rail. Trainer P BROWN was advised that stewards would monitor the racing manners of GRAND RESERVE and an official warning would be placed on the horse. He was further advised that should there be a repeat performance, further action may have to be considered.

Near the 600 metres ROSIE O’ ROSIE shifted in on its own accord and as a result was checked to avoid the heels of BUTTERSCOTCH BABE.

Leaving the 200 metres PLAYGROUND was inclined to shift out under pressure and made contact with MISS GROSVENOR on at least two occasions.

Near the 50 metres CROFTSIDE PARK was steadied away from the heels of GAME DEFECTS and as a result shifted in and hampered SIMONSTAR.

K POPE (GAME DEFECTS) reported after the race that the tree of his saddle snapped on leaving the barriers and as a result he was placed at a distinct disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

RACE 4 – DELFIN LIMITED (TWO-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – DIV. 2 – 1,200 METRES

Trainer P BALZEN was fined $50 for failing to have OH DOLLY on course by the prescribed time.

Shortly after the start SHIZUKA was checked severely and lost considerable ground when crowded for room between GAMMIE’S WAY and AQUA DIANA after that horse was taken out by HIGH SAILS and ROYAL JEST. K BELL (ROYAL JEST) was reminded of his obligations to ensure that his mounts are kept on a straight course wherever possible.

OH DOLLY hung out for a major part of the race and on entering the home straight became unbalanced and lost ground. Trainer P BALZEN was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly regarding her racing manners.

Inside the 200 metres HIGH SAILS shifted out abruptly under pressure.

A veterinary examination of CANDY WALK after the race revealed that the filly had shifted its near fore plate.

RACE 5 – GOLD COAST AIRPORT LTD (CLASS 3) HANDICAP – 900 METRES

BLACK QUOZ jumped away awkwardly and shifted in making heavy contact with TWIRL.




RACE 6 – GOLD COAST DISPLAYS (CLASS 4) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

Trainer L KELLY was fined $50 for nominating FORGINGS LAD for this particular race when found to be ineligible.

GO JUAN GO suffered a bleeding attack from both nostrils and will now be ineligible to race for a period of three months.

RACE 7 – FIBRE LIGHT (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES) CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES

Trainer G STEWART was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for MR. LEVI by the prescribed time.

JASTANJAH was slowly away.

Leaving the 1,000 metres HOT FEET commenced to over-race after making contact with the hind quarters of GALACTIC ROMEO which shifted out slightly. Shortly after this HOT FEET then had to be checked to avoid the heels of TIME FLIES BYE which shifted in. In all the circumstances the stewards decided not to take any direct action however L HILL (TIME FLIES BYE) was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground. A veterinary examination of HOT FEET after the race revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Rounding the home turn GALACTIC ROMEO shifted out abruptly to improve and in doing so forced JASTANJAH wider on the track.

Over the concluding stages of the race TIME FLIES BYE was disappointed for clear running between CARTONS and GALACTIC ROMEO which shifted in slightly under pressure.

RACE 8 –GRAND MERCURE BROADBEACH (FILLIES AND MARES) CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES

As S KILLEN was indisposed, stewards permitted the following replacements:

Race 8 SASSADASH K POPE
Race 9 CHAMTON P CUDDIHY

Inside the final 50 metres LIVELY LITTLE LADY resented being struck with the whip and as a result lashed out with both hind legs and then became unbalanced making heavy contact with the hind quarters of AFFIRMED’S LASS. A veterinary examination of LIVELY LITTLE LADY after the race revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer A EDMONDS was shown the video replay of the incident and he gave the stewards an undertaking that he would bear this incident in mind when giving instructions to riders who ride the mare in the future.


RACE 9 – COLE DIESEL CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 2,200 METRES

DANCING AMORE made the crossing near the 1,800 metres awkwardly.

Near the 800 metres DANCING AMORE made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.


On entering the home straight YALLAH’S GIFT which was weakening had to be steadied to avoid the heels of EMERALD PRINCE which shifted in when not quite clear. J POLLARD (EMERALD PRINCE) was issued with a reprimand and reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.


NINE WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED ALONG WITH GO JUAN GO.
