RACE 1 – JIM BEAM MAIDEN HANDICAP – 900 METRES

COUNTER GIRL and OUR CHEVAL were slow away.

Near the 600 metres EXTREMO shifted out and had to be restrained off the heels of SKY RULE.

Approaching the100 metres COUNTER GIRL shifted in abruptly resulting in SOUND TRACKS having to be steadied. Jockey A. PATTILLO reported that COUNTER GIRL hung in for the entire event.



RACE 2 – TINY’S FINITO MAIDEN HANDICAP – 900 METRES

J. POLLARD was fined $100.00 for dual accepting rides on CYCLONE KLAIRE and OUR LURE in this race. He was subsequently replaced on OUR LURE by R. GOLTZ.

CROWN ME NOW jumped away slowly.

CLAY SHAKER raced greenly in the early stages.

Shortly after entering the straight when directed outwards CLAY SHAKER shifted out abruptly resulting in SOUTHERN DAUGHTER having to be checked. Whilst Stewards acknowledged that CLAY SHAKER was racing greenly Jockey G. BIRNEY was nonetheless reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.



RACE 3 – GEORGE HARRIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1300 METRES

Trainer S. Jones was fined $50.00 for nominating GODZILLA GORILLA in a Maiden for which it was ineligible.

EL SENOR, DANCETTA and ROZ’S LEADER were slow away.





RACE 4 – KPMG ASSURANCES HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

L. HILL was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out near the 200 metres resulting in DANCING CZAR having to shift out to avoid its heels.

S. GALLOWAY was questioned as to the performance of HALO MAN. He stated that the gelding travelled well throughout the race however, failed to respond to his riding over the final 200 metres. He also felt that HALO MAN would be better suited in races over a longer distance and where there was genuine pace.



RACE 5 – JIM CALLAGHAN CLASSIC HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

MR. ABBOT jumped away awkwardly and then shifted out making contact with FRESHLY SQUEEZED which in turn shifted out onto PIGGERY HILL.



RACE 6 – DAVID ANDERSON HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

SHE’S LUSCIOUS was very slow to begin.

Shortly after the start CORNWALL BAY and GRISMA came together on two occasions.

After leaving the 200 metres BISCUIT FLICKER and JOLTIN JOE both shifted ground under pressure and made contact.



RACE 7 – KPMG ADVISORY HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Trainer G. Reid was fined $50.00 for failing to declare a rider for PENITENT ZOFFANY by the prescribed time.

As A. PATTILLO was indisposed Stewards permitted B. COMPTON to be substituted as the rider of FOR A LARK in this race and also the following replacement riders:-

Race 8 HARMONY ROAD D. HAYSE
Race 9 MAJOR SALVO P. CUDDIHY

MAJESTIC RHYTHM jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start KOKOMO was hampered when tightened for room between FOR A LARK which shifted in slightly and ACCORDANCE which shifted out.

Shortly after entering the straight ACCORDANCE shifted out and brushed TEMPEL TUTTLE.

Jockey N. JOLLY was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PURE MAREE which finished last. He stated that he had been instructed by the Trainer to either lead or take a trailing position behind the
leaders however, the filly jumped away awkwardly and he elected to settle PURE MAREE off the speed midfield in a trailing position one off the fence. He added that near the 600 metres when the rider to his inside M. BENNETT shifted out to avoid heels he attempted to hold ACCORDANCE in a position on the fence however, PURE MAREE was unable to do so and was forced three wide from that point and the filly then failed to respond to his riding. A Veterinary examination of PURE MAREE revealed the filly had sustained a laceration to the off hind cannon. As there were no other abnormalities the filly was sent to be swabbed.


RACE 8 –KPMG TAXATION HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

LAURIESTQUILL was slow away.

MISS MERLIN jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

HARMONY ROAD pulled hard in the middle stages.


RACE 9 – KPMG TRANSACTION SERVICES WELTER – 1400 METRES

PERISSA BAY was slow.

Shortly after the start MAJOR SALVO was tightened for room between STATELY ROSE which was taken out by BROOKLET BOY and MR. CENTREFOLD which shifted in slightly after being bumped by PAIR.

Near the 500 metres STATELY ROSE when racing in restricted room shifted in and had to be checked off the heels of NOBLE RENEGADE.

Near the 100 metres WINSTED shifted out under pressure taking FIELD GOAL out wider on the track, which resulted in PERISSA BAY having to steady when attempting to improve between FIELD GOAL and MR. CENTREFOLD where there was doubtful room. As a result PERISSA BAY shifted in abruptly making heavy contact with NOBLE RENEGADE, which in turn made contact with the hind quarters of BROOKLET BOY causing both horses to become unbalanced. NOBLE RENEGADE had difficulty obtaining clear running after this incident.

T. DUCKETT (WINSTED) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in close to the finishing line when not clear of BROOKLET BOY taking that horse in onto COUP DE GRACE causing both BROOKLET BOY and COUP DE GRACE to be tightened for room and both having to be eased. T. DUCKETT’S licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven(7) meetings to commence midnight 15 July, 2000 and to expire midnight Wednesday 26 July 2000. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account T. DUCKETT’S good racing record.

Jockeys L. HILL (BROOKLET BOY) and T. DUCKETT (WINSTED) were questioned in relation to an incident after the winning post. Jockey L. HILL was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether there was any impropriety with respect to him raising his left arm towards T. DUCKETT at that stage.
