RACE 1 – MARGARITAS ON THE WATER MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

MIXED shifted out slightly at the start and hampered SECRET OBSESSION and MAKING EXCUSES.

For a major part of the home straight CELESTIAL DUST was inclined to lay in.

It was noted after the race that CELESTIAL DUST had lost its off fore plate.



RACE 2 – COCKTAILS AND DREAMS HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

On jumping ACCORDANCE and AFFIRMED’S LASS were crowded for room between AL SECONDA and PAVLODAR both of which shifted ground.

When the pace slackened leaving the 1000 metres SUGARHOUSE was restrained to avoid the heels of PACIFIC QUEST and as a result shifted in making contact with the hind quarters of PAVLODAR and also hampered AL SECONDA.

For some distance in the early stages of the straight ANSONIA was disappointed for clear running between ACCORDANCE and SUGARHOUSE.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of VIENNA BLAZE as compared to its last start failure at the Sunshine Coast on the 23rd July 2000, Trainer K. Schweida explained that the mare races at its best when left alone in front. He said that at its last start VIENNA BLAZE was taken on off the lead and also failed to run out the 1600 metres. His explanation was noted.

A Veterinary examination of PACIFIC QUEST after the race revealed a laceration to the inside of the off hind leg.

The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon also reported that PAVLODAR sustained a laceration to the outside of the near fore fetlock during the race.



RACE 3 – OXENFORD TAVERN HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

As APP. S. NOLEN was indisposed Stewards permitted APP. A. MORRISON to be substituted as the rider of HALO MAN.

CAMAGIFI jumped awkwardly.

Leaving the 1000 metres CAMAGIFI was restrained for some distance to avoid the heels of FORCEFULLY which shifted in when not quite clear. D. KELLY (FORCEFULLY) was reminded of his obligations to his fellow riders.

Near the 300 metres PINBALL WIZARD shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running resulting in FORCEFULLY having to be steadied to avoid its heels.

Over the concluding stages TONTO MURPHY shifted out under pressure resulting in PINBALL WIZARD having to be steadied to avoid its heels near the winning post.

A Veterinary examination of CAMAGIFI revealed no obvious abnormality.



RACE 4 – CENTRAL PARK TAVERN HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

KIRRANE was slow away.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TRAVELLIN’ MAN today S. KATSIDIS explained that in the middle stages he was required to race in restricted room inside of MASTER PAUL and his mount was reluctant to hold its position however, once entering the straight the gelding was under pressure. Trainer K. Wood advised Stewards that as a result of TRAVELLIN’ MAN’S lengthy spell the gelding would benefit from more racing. A Veterinary examination of TRAVELLIN’ MAN revealed no obvious abnormality and was sent to be swabbed.



RACE 5 – BENOWA TAVERN WELTER – 900 METRES

As APP. A. MORRISON was ruled unfit by the the Club’s Doctor Stewards permitted the following replacement riders:-

Race 5 CATAINER C. MALONEY
Race 7 MISS LUCIAN W. J. COOK

BIRA and WESTERN TOLL were slow away.

Approaching the 600 metres SIGNBAH and WISELINK made heavy contact on at least two occasions. This resulted in WISELINK becoming unbalanced.

Rounding the home turn WESTERN TOLL hung out.

Near the 50 metres SUPERB RING shifted in momentarily under pressure and crowded BIRA.





RACE 6 – NOBLE PARK STUD HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

Approaching the 1200 metres CARAMEL STAR had to be steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of ATHENE’S STAR which shifted in when not quite clear. K. POPE (ATHENE’S STAR) was advised to exercise more care.

D. KELLY (DO WHAT YOU LIKE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) when rounding the home turn he forced a run whilst riding his mount along where there was insufficient room between FINAL TRUMP and WOMANHOOD which subsequently made heavy contact with the hind quarters of CHARGAL. WOMANHOOD was then checked severely. D. KELLY’S licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight(8) meetings to commence midnight Friday 4th August 2000 and to expire midnight 16th August 2000.




RACE 7 – CARLTON AND UNITED GOLDMARKET HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

Trainer B. Guy was fined $50.00 for failing to declare a rider for MAJOR VICTORY by the required time.

Correct weight was delayed when M. CARSON the rider of SCENIC FLIGHT advised Stewards that in his view his mount was not afforded a fair start. After considering evidence from M. CARSON, Stableforeman for Trainer L. Freedman Mr R. Catherall, Starter Mr S. Andrews and viewing the Stewards’ footage, the Stewards were satisfied that SCENIC FLIGHT had been afforded a fair start. Therefore correct weight was declared.

MR. NEWMARKET was slow away.

Leaving the 1000 metres BOLD WILLIAM shifted in and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of MALTESE BEAUTY resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced.

In the early and middle stages of the race BRIGHTER SCENE was obliged to race very wide.

In the middle stages RETURN TO GO was inclined to overrace.

Rounding the home turn MAJOR VICTORY shifted out abruptly across the heels of TAJ to obtain clear running.

Inside the 200 metres a number of runners were held up for clear running, the main ones being RETURN TO GO, MR. NEWMARKET and TAJ.

Also leaving the 200 metres PLEASURE GIVER raced in restricted room when tight on the inside of REGAL CENTRE.

At no stage in the straight was KING LOTTO able to obtain clear running and was steadied off the heels of DASH OF BAY near the 200 metres and subsequently went to the line not fully tested.




RACE 8 – COOLANGATTA SANDS HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

Near the 100 metres LUKE’S LOOT shifted in under pressure and made contact with DRUTHER’S OPTION.



EIGHT WINNERS PLUS TRAVELLIN’ MAN WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
