GENERAL
From Gold Coast Turf Club Meeting – 2 August 2000
Race 6 – Noble Park Stud Classic Super QRIS Added Stakes (Three-Years-Old) Fillies Handicap – 1,300 Metres
Soon after entering the home straight MISKARIMA had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ALL IN AWE which shifted out under pressure.
RACE 1 – JIM BEAM (THREE-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,600 METRES
TO MAKE A BUCK was slowly away.
KULANGO which jumped awkwardly was taken out by HYSTERICAL BOSS and as a result TRUMP DOMINION was hampered and lost ground.
Leaving the 400 metres until nearing approximately the 200 metres ZINA ZULU was held up for clear running behind KULANGO and to the inside of HYSTERICAL BOSS. Eventually ZINA ZULU was shifted out abruptly shortly afterwards and in doing so inconveniencing DEFENCE CHIEF which was following.
RACE 2 – BRIAN SHEPHERD MARKETING (CLASS 3) HANDICAP – 2,015 METRES
QUARRY HAWK was slowly away.
Passing the winning post the first time ARKLEA commenced to over-race and then had to be restrained off the heels of OUR CULPRIT. This resulted in SWELL BOY which was following having to be eased.
Leaving the 400 metres SORATANI was held up for clear running and eventually nearing the 200 metres had to be steadied off the heels of OUR CULPRIT and shifted out to improve.
D TANTI (RUAUMOKO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in over the concluding stages of the race whilst riding along with the whip causing crowding to SORATANI, SWELL BOY, RIVER’S RUN which was checked and made contact with the hind quarters of QUARRY HAWK. D TANTI’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 6 August 2000 and to expire midnight 17 August 2000.
RACE 3 – GENERAL HIRE MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,205 METRES
FINAL ROAD was examined behind the barriers by the club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race. The mare was again examined after the race and this revealed a laceration to the off hind pastern.
LUBERTUS was slowly away.
Approaching the 1,000 metres LUBERTUS and KISS ME were checked when they commenced to race quite fiercely. This resulted in QUICK WINA which was following having to be checked to avoid the heels of KISS ME. At the same stage SHANNON STAR had to be restrained for a short distance to avoid the heels of INAPPROPRIATE which had steadied the pace.
COMPOSITA was inclined to hang out for a major part of the race and rounding the home turn made contact with INAPPROPRIATE.
Leaving the 500 metres BLAZING TRAIL was unable to go forward when held up behind a number of runners. Then rounding the home turn shifted out to improve and bumped the hind quartes of FINAL ROAD.
CAMDEN FLYER broke down in the off fore leg.
RACER 4 – RUGS-A-MILLION (CLASS 4) HANDICAP – 1,110 METRES
MISTER JAMIESON raced wide throughout.
CHARIOT’S ROAD bled from both nostrils and is now ineligible to race for a period of three months.
RACE 5 – BRUCE LYNTON BMW (FILLIES & MARES CLASS 2) HANDICAP – 1,205 METRES
After the running of this race the track was upgraded to ‘GOOD’.
RACE 6 – NASHUATEC (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 2) HANDICAP – 1,205 METRES
Approaching the 1,000 metres PYFO which was inclined to lay in shifted in and away from the heels of STAR OF ALQUOZ. This resulted in some crowding to GLENNAL and MINSTRELLA which was checked. Stewards were of the view that the shift from STAR OF ALQUOZ had contributed to the incident and that P CUDDIHY (PYFO) had also made sufficient effort to try and avoid the incident, therefore no direct action was taken.
Leaving the 500 metres GLENNAL was unable to improve and soon after entering the home straight at approximately the 300 metres had to be checked when endeavouring to obtain a run between the fence and to the inside of HACKETTS TOWN where there was insufficient room.
C SMALL (CLASSIC FRONTIER) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out near the 200 metres when not clear of STAR OF ALQUOZ resulting in that horse being checked. C SMALL’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 6 August 2000 and to expire midnight 17 August 2000.
Near the 200 metres D WHEELER (GLENNAL) dropped his whip.
RACE 7 – GOLD COAST MEDIA CLUB (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,600 METRES
TAKE STRIKE shifted out at the start and hampered CERTAIN SOUND which subsequently lost ground.
Rounding the turn near the 1,200 metres FOREVER ACTION was inclined to hang out off the track and after being restrained MR. LEVI which was following had to be checked to avoid that horse’s heels.
RACE 8 – CHANNEL 10 (CLASS 6) HANDICAP – 1,600 METRES
RED INTRO jumped awkwardly and lost ground and then in the early stages had to be eased when inclined to over-race.
Near the 1,200 metres NUGGETTORE became unbalanced, shifted in and crowded KINGS O’R.
EIGHT WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED ALONG WITH CHARIOT’S ROAD.
