GENERAL
Gold Coast Turf Club – Saturday 5th August, 2000-08-12
Race 7 – Gold Coast Media Club – 1600 Metres
Stewards today questioned Jockey S. GALLOWAY regarding the manner in which SPOT ON BOY was ridden in this race as compared to its previous starts where the gelding had been ridden in a forward position. Jockey S. GALLOWAY explained that his instructions were as normal to take up a forward position. He said after jumping away cleanly he made a decision to try to take up a position behind MR. LEVI, which he assumed would lead and therefore give him a box position in the race. However, leaving the 1400 metres MR. LEVI struck some interference and was required to check off the heels of FOREVER ACTION, which subsequently resulted in his mount being shuffled back in the field. Stewards also questioned Mr F. Harris a part-owner of SPOT ON BOY who expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which S. GALLOWAY had ridden his horse. Stewards advised S. GALLOWAY that his apparent lack of vigour particularly in the early stages of the race was of a major concern and he was reminded wherever possible to ensure that his mounts are ridden to instructions and in such a manner that leaves no room for query. Both parties were advised that the evidence taken today had been recorded if required for further reference and that their explanations had been noted.
