GENERAL

Stewards interviewd the relevant parties in relation to C. MUNCE being dually declared for KING LOTTO and MR. KABARLA in Race 6 AAMI Gold Coast Stakes, as well as for SPEND and FINE ACTION in Race 8 Marina Mirage Sprint. Stewards ruled that C. MUNCE ride KING LOTTO and FINE ACTION. J. CASSIDY was substituted as the rider of MR. KABARLA and SPEND. C. MUNCE was fined the sum of $200.00 for failing to properly confirm riding engagements with the connections of SPEND and MR. KABARLA.


RACE 1 – QUEENSLAND EVENTS CORPORATION HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

ESSJAYPEE jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the hind quarters of ZULU WARRIOR and lost ground.

QUEEN AMIDALA raced greenly in the early stages and near the 1100 metres shifted in and made contact with DARK DESIRE.

Approaching the 400 metres WHEELAWAY was obliged to shift out abruptly to avoid the heels of the tiring PURE SENSATION. A Veterinary examination of PURE SENSATION which compounded badly in the straight revealed that filly to be in a distressed state.

At the 300 metres MAIZCAY BELLE had to be checked when tightened for room between QUEEN AMIDALA which was inclined to lay in and DARK DESIRE which had a tendency to shift away from SHA ALMA.

On returning to scale a protest was lodged by G. COLLESS the rider of WHEELAWAY which finished fourth against SHA ALMA (S. SEAMER) being declared the third placegetter, alleging interference over the final 100 metres. Whilst it was established that SHA ALMA had shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages taking WHEELAWAY wider on the track the objection was dismissed having regard for the margin of a half neck which separated both horses at the finish.



RACE 2 – MARRIOTT SURFERS PARADISE RESORT HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

GASOLINE which sustained injuries while being transported to the course was a late withdrawal at 8.54 a.m.

STUNTMAN was slow to begin.

An enquiry has been opened regarding the interference suffered by PHOROUS at the 800 metres. Subsequently a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) has been issued against APP. N. TOMIZAWA in that he allowed his mount METEORIC RISE to shift in at the 800 metres when not clear of PHOROUS, resulting in PHOROUS striking the heels of that gelding and blundering. After receiving a plea of not guilty from APP. N. TOMIZAWA the matter was adjourned until later in the day.

At the resumption of this enquiry the Stewards found N. TOMIZAWA guilty of the charge and he had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of eight(8) meetings to commence midnight 17th January, 2001 and to expire midnight 31st January, 2001.

A Veterinary examination of PHOROUS revealed the gelding was galloped on during the race.



RACE 3 – HONG KONG RACEHORSE OWNERS HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

REAL FORCE made contact with BLUE CELESTE at the start and then shifted out taking KISSES out across the heels of VIDA CELESTE.

Leaving the 1000 metres REAL FORCE which was inclined to hang in and away from VIDA CELESTE shifted in and caused crowding to BLUEBIRD HILL which was reluctant to hold its position and KISSES which was checked. Whilst satisfied that the racing manners REAL FORCE had been a contributing factor to the incident APP. M. RODD was nonetheless urged to make more effort in similar circumstances.

Passing the 200 metres BLUEBIRD HILL was held up for clear running.

OPAL ICE also had some difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages of the event.


RACE 4 – BARTERCARD HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

RACE 5 – CONRAD JUPITERS MAGIC MILLIONS TROPHY – 1400 METRES

BELLE DU JOUR was slow to begin.

ZERO RULES was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Near the 150 metres ROYALSYN became unbalanced and made heavy contact with MARSCATOR. Shortly afterwards both horses were crowded by BELLE DU JOUR which shifted in when endeavouring to obtain a clear run. In all the circumstances no direct action was taken however, L. BEASLEY (BELLE DU JOUR) was issued with a reprimand and reminded of his obligations to his fellow riders when shifting ground.

Approaching the winning post ROLLER was eased to avoid the heels of PARADIDDLE (B. PREBBLE) which shifted in and was also taken in slightly by GELIGNITE JACK (M. CAHILL). Both B. PREBBLE and M. CAHILL were cautioned for failing to make a greater effort to keep their mounts on a straight course.


RACE 6 – AAMI GOLD COAST STAKES – 1400 METRES

CITY HALL jumped outwards at the start inconveniencing ZEPPLIN and SCHUMANN.

Approaching the 1000 metres FRISKY STAR got its head up and raced ungenerously when steadied off the heels of TURF KING, which shifted in when not quite clear. APP. A. MORRISON the rider of TURF KING was cautioned.



RACE 7 - $1 MILLION CONRAD JUPITERS MAGIC MILLIONS CLASSIC – 1200 METRES

Stewards permitted the late withdrawal of MAGNAFORCE at 9.00 a.m. on Veterinary advice.

EXCELLERATOR was examined by the Club’s Vet and passed fit to start.

SHOVOFF jumped inwards at the start taking TIME OUT in onto ADMIRAL ROBINSON, which in turn was tightened onto MERKABA.

MAGIC ALBERT blundered on jumping away and shifted out hampering STRATEGIC IMAGE and in turn causing severe tightening to COURVOISIER.

At the 1100 metres CHONG TONG had to be steadied when tightened for room between TWIN PEAKS which was taken in by MAGIC ALBERT and PIMPALA WARRIOR which was taken out by COMMON SMYTZER.

Near the 1000 metres TWIN PEAKS had to be checked when cramped for room by MAGIC ALBERT. Whilst it was established that PIMPALA WARRIOR may have contributed to the incident by shifting out slightly and TWIN PEAKS had also raced ungenerously G. EADES the rider of MAGIC ALBERT was nonetheless reprimanded and urged to exercise more care.

At the same stage COMMON SMYTZER lost ground abruptly when racing ungenerously.

At the 900 metres ADMIRAL ROBINSON got its head up and raced ungenerously and as a result shifted out and made heavy contact with MISS BUSSELL. ADMIRAL ROBINSON continued to race ungenerously throughout the middle stages.

STRATEGIC IMAGE hung out after leaving the 800 metres and ran wide.

EXCELLERATOR was also inclined to hang out in the event. MAGIC ALBERT had to be steadied off the heels of EXCELLERATOR approaching the 600 metres.

At the 600 metres SHOVOFF ran up onto the heels of COMMON SMYTZER and then shifted out which resulted in MERKABA striking the heels of that colt and blundering.

When placed under pressure in the straight MISS BUSSELL was inclined to lay in.




RACE 8 – MARINA MIRAGE SPRINT – 1200 METRES

Stewards permitted L. BEASLEY to replace A. PATTILLO on compassionate grounds.

SPEND was a late withdrawal at 4.21 p.m. on Veterinary advice after sustaining bruising and a contusion to the off side stifle on leaving the mounting yard and was subsequently lame behind the barrier. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on SPEND were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 9 cents in the dollar for a win and 10 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket.

L. BEASLEY (FORGOTTEN HERO) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for allowing his mount to shift out passing the 200 metres resulting in DASH OF BAY being crowded onto SKARLOEY and eventually being checked. L. BEASLEY’S licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings to commence midnight Thursday 18th January, 2001, and to expire midnight Sunday 28th January, 2001.

SWIRLER suffered a bleeding attack during the event. As a consequence SWIRLER will incur the mandatory three month ban from racing.



RACE 9 – CONRAD JUPITERS MAGIC MILLIONS CARNIVAL HANDICAP – 2200 METRES

Due to a misunderstanding Stewards were satisfied there was some doubt as to whether D. BEASLEY was confirmed as the rider of HAPPY SEASON therefore, they permitted M. BENNETT to be substituted as the rider.

APP. A. MERRITT (STRONGARM) was issued with a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in leaving the 1000 metres causing crowding to ANSONIA and OTHAPUS which was checked. Due to APP. MERRITT’S Master not being present the matter was adjourned until the Doomben Race Meeting on Wednesday 17th January, 2001.

Leaving the 600 metres MCGILL had to be checked when disappointed for a narrow run between STRONGARM and the tiring HAPPY SEASON.

Upon entering the straight ANSONIA had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between SHARPFIELD and OTHAPUS which shifted out to improve.

Jockey H. GOTO (MY TUDOR ROSE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for allowing his mount to shift out leaving the 200 metres whilst riding it along when not clear of MUSIC VIDEO causing that horse to clip the heels of MY TUDOR ROSE and blunder. At arriving a decision as far as penalty is concerned the Stewards took into account the unique circumstances of this particular case and decided in all the circumstances to suspend H. GOTO’S licence to ride in races for a period of four(4) meetings to commence immediately and expire midnight the 19th January, 2001. They also imposed a fine of $2,000.00.
