MR D. AURISCH AND MR M. TUTT (CADET)

RACE 1 – SURFERS PARADISE MARRIOTT RESORT HANDICAP – 900 METRES

Trainer B. Winchester was fined $50.00 for failing to notify a rider for HOT FEET by the prescribed time.

RACE 2 – SOUTHPORT WORKERS CLUB HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

MANNEBA and MAL DRESSEUR made contact on jumping.

Approaching the 900 metres GREEN LINES shifted out and made contact with DESERT SALT.

MANNEBA bled from both nostrils and will now incur a three(3) month ban from racing. The filly was also sent to be swabbed.

RACE 3 – SURFERS PARADISE R.S.L. SUB BRANCH HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

Trainer Mr A. Thies will be interviewed into the reasons why HIVITE was not scratched by the prescribed time. HIVITE was a late scratching at 8.30 a.m.

Approaching the 1000 metres SEATTLE QUEEN was forced wider on the track by BOLD STREAK which shifted out slightly. A short distance after SEATTLE QUEEN had to be steadied off the heels of SHERIFF WOODY, which resulted in SEATTLE QUEEN shifting in and making contact with RISKY DEAL which became unbalanced and shifted in tightening the running of SILENT AUCTION which made heavy contact with the running rail.

From the 800 metres to the 600 metres RISKY DEAL raced in restricted room to the inside of SEATTLE QUEEN (A. BAKER). A. BAKER was cautioned and reminded of his obligations to allow sufficient room in similar circumstances.

Approaching the home turn COCKY CRUISER (NZ) shifted out to improve which resulted in SHERIFF WOODY being taken wider on the track.

Approaching the 200 metres RISKY DEAL shifted in of its own accord and had to be steadied off the heels of TANJENONG.

SHERIFF WOODY was obliged to raced in a three(3) wide position for the majority of the race.

Trainer G. STEWART was questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of COCKY CRUISER (NZ) today compared to its ninth out of ten at the Sunshine Coast on the 8th April, 2001. G. STEWART explained that approaching the 200 metres when improving to the inside of the other runners the gelding had to be severely checked and lost its position at the crucial part of the race. This was confirmed by the Stewards’ report on the day and Mr Stewart’s comments were noted.

RACE 4 – GOLD COAST EARTHMOVING HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

TROPICAL STORM was slow to jump.

Approaching the first turn LIMERICK LAD had to be steadied off the heels of JORDAN’S TABOO.

Approaching the home turn JORDAN’S TABOO shifted out and made contact with MR. GRASSHOPPER.

On entering the straight TAKE STRIKE was momentarily held up for a clear run.

Stableforeman Mr B. Hill was questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of JORDAN’S TABOO. Mr Hill stated that the gelding was a lot handier today than its last run and he was of the belief that this may have been the reason the gelding failed to run on. Mr Hill took an undertaking to bring to the Stewards’ attention anything that may come to light with regard to JORDAN’S TABOO’S performance today.

RACE 5 – NERANG R.S.L. & MEMORIAL CLUB HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Stewards opened an enquiry into the reasons why K.BELL was dislodged from SKY RULE. APP. P. HAMMERSLEY (PLAY MISTRESS) and J. POLLARD (SWEET CHERI PIE) which were following were also dislodged at the 800 metres. The remaining runners were also inconvenienced following this incident with the exception of LOS KATROS (APP. M. RODD). At this enquiry evidence was taken from T. DUCKETT (MISKARIMA), D. TANTI (GO SANDY), APP. M. RODD (LOS KATROS), APP. Y. OTA (NAFANA), W. MOORE (JENERIFFE) and A. BAKER (CANDY SPENDER). This enquiry was adjourned until such time as K. BELL, P. HAMMERSLEY and J. POLLARD are fit to give evidence. Evidence was also taken from the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported that SKY RULE had sustained a complete compound fracture to the right fore cannon and was immediately humanely euthanaised.

CANDY SPENDER jumped away awkwardly and made contact with GO SANDY.

RACE 7 – FPC PRINTERS WELTER – 1200 METRES

ANNALEA was slow to jump and lost considerable ground.

RACE 8 – COLLAS MORO ROSS 50TH ANNIVERSARY – 1300 METRES
