STEWARDS’ MR J HACKETT (CHAIRMAN), MR J HAIGH, MR J GRAHAM,
PANEL: MR R SANDERS AND MR M TUTT (CADET)

RACE 1 – LEDA HOLDINGS MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

S. Chirnside the Trainer of WHITE WOLF was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to collect the saddle within a reasonable time.

EXCELLENT which jumped away awkwardly and lost ground shifted out shortly after causing TECHNICAL ANALYSIS to be inconvenienced.

GILGURRY was caught wide after the start and was obliged to race wide for the entire race.

Near the 1000 metres CAPTAIN COSMIC shifted away from the rails resulting in DEFAMATION being checked and taken out onto WHITE WOLF. PENTECOST which was following had to check and as a consequence SNAPPY SUSIE had to be eased and shifted out onto TECHNICAL ANALYSIS.

Stewards questioned M. BENNETT (CAPTAIN COSMIC) into the reason for MOTHERMAC obtaining a run to his inside approaching the first turn after assuming the lead. M. BENNETT explained that after reaching the lead CAPTAIN COSMIC relaxed and as a consequence MOTHERMAC pulled up its way onto the heels of his mount. He explained that when this occurred his horse shifted out despite his efforts enabling MOTHERMAC to secure a run on his inside. His explanation was noted.

SAHARA NOBLE was inclined to overrace in the middle stages.

K. MAHONEY (GILGURRY) reported that he had difficulty fully testing his mount over the latter stages
due to the saddle shifting.

It was reported after the race that OFFICE HOURS had cast a near fore plate in running.

RACE 2 – PLASTAMASTA GOLD COAST MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

GENTLEMAN CALLER and TYCOON PALACE made contact on jumping away.

GENTLEMAN CALLER was caught three(3) wide after the start and raced wide for the remainder of the race.

Rounding the home turn as IMPERIAL ECHO shifted out around the heels of the tiring HOPE HE CAN DO IT, TYCOON PALACE, BOLD STREAK and SANZASHI were inconvenienced and forced wider on the track.

GENTLEMAN CALLER was examined after the race and the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported the horse had sustained a laceration in the corner of its mouth.

It was reported after the race that TYCOON PALACE had lost its near side fore plate.

RACE 3 – COASTLINE WALLS & CEILINGS HANDICAP – 900 METRES

LADY VETTORI was slow to jump.

HOT COPPER and MAN ON A MISSION were tightened between JUST THE DROP and SHAROU shortly after the start when both horses shifted ground.

RACE 4 – HEINRICH CONSTRUCTIONS HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

ZAMCAY and STAR PACIFIC were slow to jump.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres STAR PACIFIC improved to the inside of ENCOMIA where there was not fully sufficient room. As a consequence of this MR. STYLISH which was racing on the rails raced in restricted room for some distance and had to be checked approaching the 700 metres. A. GILLETT (STAR PACIFIC) was severely reprimanded and was instructed to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

RACE 5 – PLASTAMASTA LOGAN CITY HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

RAW TORQUE and MOROCCAN were slow to jump.

On straightening SADDLE BOY attempted to take a run inside CASTLEREAGH MAGIC where there was insufficient room and made contact with that horse’s hind quarters.

RACE 6 – JASON SWADLING HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

Rounding the first turn as the pace eased LAURIE’S ANGEL and CENTUPLE were hampered and had to be steadied as a consequence.

The connections of PAVLODAR were questioned concerning the apparent change in riding tactics today as compared to the horse’s previous start on the 16th June, 2001, when it was ridden back in the field. A. GILLETT who rode the horse at its previous start was questioned and he explained that after jumping reasonably well from its extreme outside barrier he elected to restrain the horse and allowed it to settle in a rearward position. He further explained that the horse ran home reasonably well to be beaten only 4 ½ lengths

and felt that at the horse was looking for more ground. Trainer H. Wilson indicated that after the horse had worked well in preparation for today’s race and given that the horse had stepped up to 1400 metres he requested the rider K. BELL to have the horse positioned handy to the lead. Evidence was also taken from the connections in relation to support up of PAVLODAR in recent starts which indicated there had been moderate support for the horse on all occasions. After considering all evidence Stewards noted the explanations.

RACE 7 – KEN IRVINE MEMORIAL CLASSIC HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

KING COCKY was examined at the barriers as the horse may have been kicked by another runner and was passed fit to race.

LOREMASTER jumped out at the start and made contact with SPECIAL ISSUE.

A short distance later SPECIAL ISSUE made heavy contact with CAPTAIN NEMO forcing that horse out onto OVERSLADE LANE which had to be checked.

RACE 8 – TERRY PAGE HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

MILITARY ASSASSIN was tightened between VAUTIN which jumped awkwardly and TELEBAN which jumped inwards.

In the middle stages TELEBAN was inclined to overrace.

When questioned concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of LUK KAI LUK APP. M. RODD stated that after having to make use of the horse in the early stages to gain a forward position it did not settle when leading and did not run on as anticipated. A Veterinary examination of LUK KAI LUK following the race indicated that the horse was suffering from respiratory distress and a swab sample was taken.

EIGHT WINNERS PLUS WHITE WOLF, GENTLEMAN CALLER, SHAROU, CASTLEREAGH MAGIC 1AND LUK KAI LUK WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
