RACE 1 – SCHWEPPES MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

Approaching the first turn GO HAYLEY GO commenced to pull hard and as a result had to be steadied off the heels of NOBLE MOSS.

A short distance later NOBLE MOSS overraced and became unbalanced.



RACE 2 – NESTLE PETERS ICE CREAM THREE YEAR OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 900 METRES

TRISEQUAL was hampered on jumping between ARAKHAN and RING FOR CINDY both of which shifted ground.

VAN AWESOME which was slow to jump was hampered shortly after by CRIMSON CARNATION which shifted out. VAN AWESOME then attempted to buck. Trainer H. Van Hoeyen was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of VAN AWESOME.

MISS ASTUR was obliged to race wide throughout and made the home turn awkwardly taking ROPE THE WIND wider on the track.

The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that OUR LAA DEE DA had suffered a speedy cut to the right hock and an abrasion to the outside of the near fore cannon.



RACE 3 – MILLER GOLD SUNGLASSES MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

The start was delayed when Jockey K. BELL (OUR OFFICE) was struck by the head of his mount and sustained an injury to the left eye enroute to the barriers. He was xamined by the Club’s Ambulance Officer and stood down from his ride. The filly was a late withdrawal at 1.44 p.m. by order of Stewards. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on OFFICE HOURS were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 9 cents in the dollar for a win and 10 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket. Jockey K. BELL was transported to Pindarra Hospital for further examination. As K. BELL was stood down for the remainder of the day Stewards permitted the following rider replacements:-

Race 5 LUCKY MAN C. SMALL
Race 7 ASHELL L. APPO

On jumping DANISKY shifted out taking KING TARZAN out onto MAKES ME DIZZY.

GATWICK EXPRESS jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

At the 1000 metres RISING AGAIN shifted in momentarily hampering DRIVING REIN, HANDSOME GROUCHO which was reluctant to hold its position to the inside steadied of its own accord and lost ground.

After passing the 200 metres TELE SERIES and BOBBY CEE made contact on a number of occasions.



RACE 4 – PAULS MILK CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

The start was delayed when EVER HOT cast a plate behind the barriers.

POETIC EARL reared at the start and lost ground.

IT’S A GUN was slow to begin and lost considerable ground.

After passing the 800 metres RETSIL commenced to overrace and had to be restrained off the heels of RAYASAY.



RACE 5 – EXIDE BATTERIES CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

As R. THOMAS was injured in a trackwork accident Stewards permitted K. BELL to be replaced as the rider of LUCKY MAN. Subsequent to the injury to K. BELL C. SMALL was substituted as the rider of LUCKY MAN.

PLAYGROUND was slow to jump and shortly after was hampered between JEUNE’S JESTER and DEVIL.

CROWN HEIR had a tendency to overrace in the early and middle stages.
SABAI SABAI had difficulty obtaining a clear run in the early stages of the straight.

After passing the 200 metres IDRIS and BOLD YEATS attempted a narrow run between the tiring LUCKY MAN and CROWN HEIR which was inclined to lay in. IDRIS and BOLD YEATS made contact which resulted in BOLD YEATS having to be steadied off the heels of CROWN HEIR. SABAI SABAI which was following also had to be steadied.



RACE 6 – V COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

TRIP TO TIARO jumped away awkwardly.

READY TO REV commenced to lay in shortly after the start and made contact with KUMPEL ANTON. A short distance later KUMPEL ANTON was momentarily tightened for room between READY TO REV which continued to lay in and ROOFTOP FLYER which shifted out.

Shortly after entering the straight COMET WAY was disappointed for a run between the tiring ROOFTOP FLYER and KUMPEL ANTON which was taken in slightly by TRIP TO TIARO. A short distance later BRIDLE WARRIOR and COMET WAY made contact on a number of occasions.

Over the concluding stages BRIDLE WARRIOR was inclined to lay in and as a result had to be steadied off the heels of TRIP TO TIARO.

Trainer G. Heinrich and APP. C. PROSSER were questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on ROOFTOP FLYER today. APP. C. PROSSER stated that she was instructed to ride the gelding in a forward position whilst also endeavouring to have ROOFTOP FLYER racing comfortably. APP. C. PROSSER further added that in her opinion she was unable to restrain ROOFTOP FLYER and the horse overraced in the early and middle stages. Trainer G. Heinrich confirmed the instructions and added that when the gelding failed to settle in the early stages of the race she was concerned that ROOFTOP FLYER would fail to run on. Their explanations were noted.



RACE 7 – CADBURY ICE CREAM FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

STYLISH AMBER jumped in at the start and made contact with RED COUNTESS.

Approaching the 1200 metres ALL IN AWE commenced to overrace, MARMADAMAH which was following had to be steadied.

Approaching the 600 metres M. BENNETT (KEA LEAH) had to check his mount when tightened for room by ALL IN AWE which changed stride and shifted out slightly and L. APPO (ASHELL) who shifted in. Stewards could not attribute the blame to any one rider nevertheless L. APPO was reprimanded and reminded of his obligations to give sufficient room to the runners on his inside. PINUPSKI which was following was also hampered.



RACE 8 – JIM BEAM CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

SURE SIGN dipped at the start.

Shortly after TOAST A LADY and SURE SIGN were hampered between DRUTHER’S OPTION which shifted out and ZOFF ROCK which shifted in.






EIGHT WINNERS PLUS PRINCESS CHIMES AND COMET WAY WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
