Stewards questioned J. POLLARD the rider of UPRAW regarding his riding of the gelding, in particular in the early and middle stages. J. POLLARD stated that after beginning only fairly he allowed the horse to settle back in the field as instructed and when approaching the first turn his mount commenced to lay in and when being corrected became unbalanced in its actions and lost ground. For some distance leaving this point the gelding continued to race in this manner and in his opinion may not have been suited by the dead track surface. J. POLLARD further explained that UPRAW which was having its first run since a lengthy spell may be better suited over a longer journey. A post-race Veterinary examination of UPRAW failed to reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 6 – BBK PLUMBING CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES
Stewards considered an objection lodged by K. BELL the rider of ENTITY which finished second against JEUNE’S JESTER (APP. P. HAMMERSLEY) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference between the 1200 and 1000 metres. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the official films it was established that approaching the 1000 metres JEUNE’S JESTER which was racing fiercely off the heels of CARTONS shifted out and on two occasions made contact with ENTITY. As the Stewards were of the opinion that the degree of interference suffered by ENTITY did not exceed the margin between the two horses at the finish the protest was dismissed.
FOWEY SPIRIT blundered at the start.
Approaching the 600 metres JEUNE’S JESTER which was still racing fiercely steadied off the heels of TRIP TO THE MOON and in doing so shifted in resulting in ZEDSQUARE having to be steadied off its rider. TYKE MY SON which was following had to be steadied off the heels of that runner.
