GENERAL

On Friday the 7 December, 2001 acting on a report from the QPC Handicapping Department that there had been a clerical error in the handicap weight of SEAHAWK LASS (Race 2), under the provisions of AR111(a) the Stewards amended the allotted weight of SEAHAWK LASS to 54.5 kilos.


RACE 1 – THE BMD GROUP MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

As APP. A. MORRISON was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties he was replaced as the rider on HURRICANE WARNING by D. TANTI.

Trainer S. Kumpikas through her stable representative was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to declare a rider for ABSTANDANCE by the prescribed time.

FREEBURN was tightened at the start by TANJENONG and HURRICANE WARNING both of which jumped awkwardly.

Approaching the 1000 metres HURRICANE WARNING which had commenced to race ungenerously with its head in the air shifted in abruptly resulting in JESSIE’S SISTER having to be checked off that runner’s heels. Stewards took into account the racing manners of HURRICANE WARNING (D. TANTI) but D. TANTI was nonetheless reprimanded and advised to make a greater effort in future to allow sufficient room for runners to his inside.

Approaching the 950 metres TANJENONG commenced to race fiercely after being placed in restricted room to the inside of I CAN SEE DAYLIGHT.

TANJENONG continued to race in this manner in the middle stages of the event.



RACE 2 – DRAKE INTERNATIONAL THREE YEAR OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 900 METRES

OBLIGATIONS was slow to begin.

KOSA was tightened at the start between LEGAL BRIEF and UNDER COVET.


A short distance after the start GOLDIE’S SON shifted in abruptly and hampered KOSA.

UNDER COVET commenced to race greenly inside the 600 metres.

KOSA hung out rounding the home turn.

BANDINELLA raced greenly and hung out throughout the event.

ODDS AND EVENS and KOSA both lost near side plates in running.

The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that KOSA had been galloped on the near hind leg during the event.



RACE 3 – YALUMBA WINES CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 2200 METRES

An enquiry was opened into L. DEGUARA’S handling of LORD MAYOR which finished at the rear of the field today. After hearing evidence from L. DEGUARA and Trainer G. Moon Stewards charged L. DEGUARA with contravening AR135 (b) and (c) in that between the 1700 and 1400 metres she rode her mount along applying pressure to CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT when there was an opportunity to steady and take a trail. Again near the 1200 metres she lacked initiative when the pace steadied presenting her with an opportunity to steady her mount she rode the horse vigorously using the whip with the result that LORD MAYOR compounded and dropped out of contention inside the 600 metres. Stewards found L. DEGUARA guilty of the charge and her licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of six weeks to commence midnight 9 December, 2001 and expire midnight 23 January, 2002.


RACE 4 – NO LIMIT PROPERTY GROUP CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

The start of this race was delayed when PEDRO’S GIRL reared in the barriers and dislodged its rider M. BENNETT. The filly was subsequently a late withdrawal at 2.37 p.m. on Veterinary advice. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on PEDRO’S GIRL were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 33 cents in the dollar for a win and 29 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer G. Rafter was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for PEDRO’S GIRL before it is permitted to race again.

BROTHER BORRELLI was slow to begin.

Rounding the 800 metre turn BROTHER BORRELLI shifted out and became unbalanced after shifting out across the heels of KITTEN.



RACE 5 – JOHNNIE WALKER TWO YEAR OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Approaching the 750 metres ZOFFEE TOFFEE shifted out to avoid the heels of MIGHTY ICON and in doing so bumped SINGAPORE JET.


A short distance later HOLLY BUSH LANE which was following had to be steadied off the heels of ZOFFEE TOFFEE.

D. TANTI the rider of TELESTAR was reprimanded for using excessive use of the whip on a horse out of contention.

SINGAPORE JET lost a near hind plate in running.



RACE 6 – FREESTONE & KUMNICK SOLICITORS CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

FOWEY SPIRIT was slow to begin.

Approaching the first turn GLORY BOUND commenced to race with its head in the air when being restrained off the heels of DARK DESIRE.

Approaching the 800 metres FOWEY SPIRIT shifted in resulting in GLORY BOUND being taken in onto RELUCTANT ROOM which was tightened onto the running rail. As a result of this incident DAMZEL’S DREAM which was following had to shift out to avoid the heels of GLORY BOUND. APP S. MCLEAN (FOWEY SPIRIT) was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.

Rounding the home turn GLORY BOUND shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped DAMZEL’S DREAM.

A. BAKER (DECORAIGH) was reprimanded for returning to scale ½ kilo over his allotted weight. In arriving at this decision the Stewards took into account that A. BAKER had not been spoken to before on a matter of this nature.



RACE 7 – THE SURF CLUB NORTHCLIFFE CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

MISTER I AM was slow to begin.

Leaving the 800 metres KISSES shifted in and momentarily hampered GLITTERING AFFAIR.



RACE 8 – CRESTA SMALLGOODS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to declare a rider for VICTORY RANGER by the prescribed time.

Trainer B. Mitchell through his stable representative was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to declare a rider for NORSE RAIDER by the prescribed time.

SHECKY’S PRIDE and VICTORY RANGER were crowded at the start between DR CILENTO and BRENDY BOY which shifted out.

Approaching the 1400 metres when overracing FAST DUKE shifted in and brushed the rail.

UPRAW was obliged to race wide throughout the middle stages.

Inside the 300 metres VICTORY RANGER was momentarily held up for clear running.

L. DEGUARA (FAST DUKE) was severely reprimanded for returning to scale under her allotted weight.
