GENERAL

From Gold Coast Turf Club Meeting 15 December, 2001-12-29

Stewards today interviewed APP. M. RICE’S Master Mr G. Moon regarding the reasons why APP. M. RICE had returned to scale in excess of one-half kilo overweight in Race 3 on TIMELESS IMAGE and on STORM PRINCESS in Race 8. Subsequently Stewards fined APP. M. RICE the sum of $50.00 each for two(2) breaches of AR 145 and in addition he was also fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to seek a clearance from Stewards to leave the racecourse on the day in question.

RACE 1 – FEDERATION WALK MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

TRUMP DOMINION was tightened at the start between DIOMEDES and TATHRA ROAD which jumped inwards.

TATHRA ROAD raced fiercely in the early and middle stages when being restrained off the heels of SET OF BELLS.

Approaching the 450 metres DIOMEDES shifted out around the heels of the tiring SIBECCA and in doing so was unable to obtain a clear run between that runner and CONEEDA. As a result DIOMEDES had to be checked off the heels of CONEEDA. TRUMP DOMINION which was following was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of DIOMEDES.

When questioned regarding the performance of SIBECCA APP. A. BEST stated that he was instructed to ride the horse in a more forward position today as opposed to its previous starts but that the horse commenced to compound inside the 500 metres and did not run on in the straight. Trainer G. Rafter explained that the change of instructions were in an attempt to test the horse over 1800 metres in a forward position as in his opinion SIBECCA is a one pace runner and he did not want it impeded for clear running behind the field. Trainer G. Rafter was also notified of his obligations to advise Stewards of any substantial change in instructions as was the case on this occasion.

A post-race Veterinary examination of SIBECCA failed to reveal any abnormalities.

When questioned regarding the performance of TRUMP DOMINION APP. C PROSSER stated that her mount at no stage travelled comfortably in the event and failed to run on in the straight when placed under pressure.
