STEWARDS’ MR D HENSLER (CHAIRMAN), MR J HAIGH, MR J GRAHAM,
PANEL: MR D TAPSALL, MR P GILLARD and MR M TUTT (CADET)
RACE 1 – PACIFIC FAIR MAIDEN HANDICAP (DIV. 1) – 1,200 METRES
SIR LANGARA and JO MAC jumped away awkwardly.
JO MAC raced ungenerously in the early stages.
Inside the final 50 metres NO TRESPASSING shifted out under pressure and bumped SKY JINKS which lost momentum over the concluding stages.
RACE 2 – HEART FOUNDATION MAIDEN HANDICAP (DIV. 2) – 1,200 METRES
Trainer B LAMING through his stable representative was fined the sum of $50 for failing to notify a gear change for LATIN LASS by the prescribed time.
TRIVIAL PURSUITS jumped in at the start and hampered JESSIE’S SISTER.
Shortly after the start LATIN LASS was inclined to lay in despite the efforts of its rider and as a result crowded MUKQUIN on to RED CURRY.
App. A BEST was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting TRIVIAL PURSUITS to shift in inside the 900 metres when insufficiently clear of RED CURRY resulting in that horse being tightened on to the running rail and having to be checked. A BEST’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence immediately and to expire midnight 18.01.2002.
Rounding the home turn TRIVIAL PURSUITS was held up for clear running behind the heels of LATIN LASS.
RACE 3 – PRIME TELEVISION (FILLIES & MARES) CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES
Shortly after entering the straight TABASCO GIRL was obliged to steady off the heels of COSSEGO and shifted to the inside of that runner’s heels to obtain clear running.
RACE 4 – ALAN BAILEY CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
A short distance after the start POCKETSFIL was tightened between SONIADORA and ACHIEVE THE GOAL which shifted out.
Approaching the 1,200 metres DARK DESIRE commenced to race ungenerously with its head in the air when being restrained.
RACE 5 – QANTAS (THREE-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
As K BELL had accepted engagements on DEL MONTE and MILATTA he was subsequently replaced on MILATTA by N JOLLY. K BELL was fined the sum of $50 for accepting two rides.
RUBY LACE jumped out and tightened DEL MONTE on to CAJUN HEIR.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons why J POLLARD (RIPPLING STEEL) and N JOLLY (MILATTA) were dislodged from their respective mounts passing the winning post. After evidence was taken from A KENNEDY, A COWIE and N JOLLY, the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be advised to allow stewards the opportunity to interview J POLLARD who was transported to hospital.
RACE 6 – H. HARVEY CUP (CLASS 6) HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
TERJULE which refused to load in the barriers was declared a late scratching at 3:57 pm. Prior to the announcement of ‘correct weight’ all monies invested on TERJULE were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar for a win and 5 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer D SUTTON was advised that he must obtain a further Barrier Certificate for TERJULE prior to its next race start.
OH CANNY was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
RACE 7 – VON BIBRA HONDA “BAT OUT OF HELL” HANDICAP – 900 METRES
KINGSTON CALLING reared as the gates opened and lost ground.
SUNDIAL jumped out at the start and hampered STAR MASTER.
For some distance shortly after entering the straight RIDOLINI was held up for clear running behind the heels of SUNDIAL.
RACE 8 – GREG KELLY “ROYSTON STUD” (CLASS 5) HANDICAP – 1,800 METRES
IN SINGAPORE was declared a late scratching at 7:56 a.m. on vet’s advice.
Following this event the starter Mr G Fanning, reported to stewards that as he was about to release the field, the barrier gates opened prematurely. Upon return to scale all riders were questioned regarding the start and after viewing the patrol film the stewards were satisfied that in their opinion the premature activation of the starting stalls did not materially prejudice the chances of any horse.
