STEWARDS’ MR DAVID HENSLER (CHAIRMAN), MR J HAIGH, MR J GRAHAM,
PANEL: MR D TAPSALL, MR M TUTT (CADET) and MR S HURFORD (CADET)
RACE 1 – SKYLINE RESTAURANT MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,110 METRES
KING RUBY jumped away awkwardly.
HIGH POWER and POP WILL were both slow to begin
HERBIE DANCER raced greenly in the early stages.
HIGH POWER blundered approaching the first turn.
Rounding the first turn STYLISH KNIGHT had to steady off the heels of KEL’S GAL and KING RUBY which was following commenced to race ungenerously. KEL’S GAL then raced ungenerously in the middle stages of the event.
NUGUTANA and TIGHT SPOT were both obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
Inside the 600 metres SHE’S A KEEPER was obliged to steady off the heels of NUGUTANA which shifted in.
Approaching the home turn KEL’S GAL shifted in despite the efforts of its rider and tightened the running of HIGH POWER.
Over the concluding stages HERBIE DANCER was crowded for room between OUR SOLEIL and POP WILL which shifted in under pressure.
Trainer P WHEATLEY was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of KEL’S GAL.
Trainer E NICHOLLS reported that OUR SOLEIL lost its off fore plate in running.
RACE 2 – PINK – MISSUNDAZTOOD (THREE-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,205 METRES
DUAL SUCCESS jumped in at the start and hampered PRINCE TWILIGHT.
A short distance after the start MAGIC SPARK was tightened for room between BR’ISLAND BOY and PASSION MISS which shifted out.
Leaving the 1,100 metres GIULIO had to be restrained off the heels of SPANKSTER which was racing fiercely.
FEMOUCHE and CROAT RED were obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the 200 metres SPANKSTER shifted out and bumped EMANCIPATE on two occasions. A short distance later EMANCIPATE shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so obliged BR’ISLAND BOY to shift out to avoid that runner’s heels. M PAGET the rider of EMANCIPATE was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
D TANTI reported that BR’ISLAND BOY returned to scale with its tongue over the bit.
RACE 3 – LADIES DAY – 9 FEBRUARY MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,600 METRES
MILATTA was slow to begin.
NOBLE BLONDE and A THOUSAND DEGREES came together at the start.
WOODEN EYE and HIDDEN VALLEY were both obliged to race wide in the early stages.
Approaching the 500 metres the saddle on WOODEN EYE slipped forward placing M PAGET at a disadvantage. Over the concluding stages WOODEN EYE was inclined to lay in and as a result impeded the running of OUR PARTY LIGHT.
A GILLETT the rider of MILATTA pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out shortly after entering the straight when insufficiently clear of A THOUSAND DEGREES resulting in that horse being heavily bumped and unbalanced and further that he continued to shift out to a point inside the 200 metres which resulted in NOBLE BLONDE having to be checked by its rider. A GILLETT’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 24 January 2002 and to expire midnight 2 February 2002. In the abovementioned incident which occurred at the 200 metres, NOBLE BLONDE then shifted out and crowded KING’S AURA on to HIDDEN VALLEY which in turn had to be steadied off the heels of DIAMOND FIRE which shifted in abruptly. A KENNEDY the rider of DIAMOND FIRE was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
A post race veterinary examination of KING’S AURA revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg.
RACE 4 – GOLDCOASTTURF.COM.AU (CLASS 2) HANDICAP – 1,600 METRES
TRUE ENOUGH was slow to begin.
COLD START jumped in at the start and hampered SEAHAWK DANCER.
RACE 5 – LADIES DAY – 9 FEBRUARY MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,600 METRES
BLAGGARD jumped away awkwardly.
PETE’S REVENGE lost its near hind plate in running.
RACE 6 – RACING EVERY SATURDAY (CLASS 3) HANDICAP – 1,110 METRES
Approaching the first turn MISS MARTINDALE shifted in and made contact with OCTAVIAN which in turn made contact with the running rail.
Rounding the first turn DECEPTIVE DANCER which was inclined to lay out had to be restrained off the heels of VIVID MISS which shifted in slightly.
When questioned regarding the performance of OCTAVIAN, D TANTI stated that his mount raced fiercely in the early stages and refused to settle when challenged for the lead by MISS MARTINDALE. He further stated that his mount compounded inside the 600 metres. A post race veterinary examination of OCTAVIAN failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
RACE 7 – BUNYIPS, PHANTOMS … FILLIES AND MARES (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,205 METRES
As M RICE failed to arrive on course on time after a riding commitment in Brisbane, he was replaced by A BEST as the rider of TIMELESS IMAGE.
Leaving the 600 metres GOT MONEY HONEY raced awkwardly when reluctant to hold its position to the inside of QUEEN AMIDALA.
Inside the final 100 metres CRAIGLEA GREENE had to be steadied off the heels of QUEEN AMIDALA which shifted in. M BENNETT the rider of QUEEN AMIDALA was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
A post race veterinary examination of BLOOD COVENANT revealed the mare to have a bowed off fore tendon.
RACE 8 – THE DOME (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES) (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,205 METRES
Trainer J WADE was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for SEMAGIC by the prescribed time.
SOL INVICTUS was tightened for room at the start between TANIWHA and SEMAGIC.
MEGAFUN was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
Over the concluding stages SOL INVICTUS was obliged to steady off the heels of IT’S GRAND which shifted out.
RACE 9 – THE DOME (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES) (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,205 METRES
D TANTI the rider of GLITTERING AFFAIR was reprimanded for flourishing his whip close to the winning post.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SILVER SPOONS, G KILLEN was unable to offer any explanation. A post race veterinary examination of SILVER SPOONS revealed no obvious abnormality.
NINE WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED ALONG WITH OCTAVIAN and WOODEN EYE.
