RACE 1 – LORD BEN MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES

RAW CRY was slow to begin.

For some distance inside the 1,300 metres KEL’S GAL raced fiercely when being steadied.

Rounding the first turn POP WILL had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HUKA JET which lost ground after shifting in of its own accord and striking the running rail.

RAW CRY which finished last in this event underwent a veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 2 – “BLACK HAWK DOWN” (THERE-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES

BOSCH made heavy contact with the inside barrier partition at the start and almost dislodged its rider.

HEELS ON WHEELS was slow to begin.

Inside the 1,200 metres BOSCH had to be steadied after shifting out across the heels of SKIMBLESHANKS. BOSCH then commenced to race ungenerously into the middle stages.

D TANTI the rider of MAGIC SPARK was fined the sum of $50 for using an excessive amount of whip when his mount was out of contention and showing no response.

RACE 3 – NGAWYNI (CLASS 2) HANDICAP – 900 METRES

As A MORRISON failed to arrive on course, he was replaced as the rider of MAGICAL MAN by D HAYSE. Stewards adjourned an inquiry into this matter.

AYNSLEY GOLD jumped out at the start and hampered VIROSCO.

Rounding the home turn MAGICAL MAN shifted out marginally which resulted in ANTARES which was racing to the outside of the heels of that runner also shifting ground which then resulted in VATALIA having to be checked. Stewards could not be satisfied that any one rider’s actions were at fault in this incident. A short distance later SAM’S GOLD shifted out around the turn and forced AYNSLEY GOLD wider on the track.

RACE 4 – LADIES DAY – FEBRUARY 9 (CLASS 5) HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES

Inside the 1,250 metres ACHIEVE THE GOAL had to be steadied off the heels of NAFANA which shifted in. T MAEDA the rider of NAFANA was advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future. After this incident ACHIEVE THE GOAL commenced to race fiercely and for some distance after rounding the first turn was placed in restricted room to the inside of HANCOCK.

RACE 5 – ALAN COWIE APPEAL FUND (CLASS 4) HANDICAP – 1,800 METRES

Trainer J DANN, through is stable representative, was fined the sum of $50 for late notification of a rider for BAY DUKE.

CROFTSIDE PARK jumped away awkwardly.

PRIME INVESTMENT was slow to begin.

For some distance rounding the home turn CROFTSIDE PARK was unable to obtain clear running.

Inside the 200 metres MY TUDOR ROSE shifted out under pressure and momentarily hampered HALF FLUSH.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of POWER BY, D TANTI stated that his intention was to ride the gelding in a forward position but he would be trapped deep if he persevered and as a result was obliged to ride his mount back in the field. He further stated that when placed under pressure to go forward inside the 800 metres, POWER BY failed to respond to his riding for the remainder of the event. A post race veterinary examination of POWER BY revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 6 – WINNER’S CIRCLE SPONSOR RACEDAY (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES) (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES

ESSJAYPEE was slow to muster early speed.

R MORRIS was fined the sum of $50 for returning to scale ½ kg over his allotted weight.

A post race veterinary examination of PEDRO’S LAD which failed to run on in the straight revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of HOPE HE CAN DO IT also revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 7 – THE DOME (FILLIES AND MARES) (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES

Acting on veterinary advice that GOBI GABBANA had sustained a laceration to the near fore leg, stewards declared the filly a late withdrawal at 3:35 p.m.

JENERIFFE and MISS ZANARDI were slow to begin.

M BENNETT rider of QUEEN AMIDALA was advised of his obligations under the rules to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.

RACE 8 – GO AUSSIES! – MICHAEL BEVAN 102 N.O. (CLASS 3) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

SUNDAE JESTER jumped out at the start and hampered ROW BOAT.

D GAY the rider of HATTA’S DANCER was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out approaching the 200 metres which resulted in FUME having to restrain to avoid that runner’s heels. In this incident FUME shifted out and made contact with FAST NEDDY.

Inside the 100 metres FUME shifted in under pressure and bumped HATTA’S DANCER.



EIGHT WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED ALONG WITH ESSJAYPEE.
