Trainer Mr K McAULEY was fined the sum of $50 for the late notification of riders for:
MORINGA’S GENIE RACE 2
MORINGA’S ORIENTAL RACE 8
Stewards permitted two gear changes for CERTAIN EDITION – Race 1 and CERTAIN BLITZ – Race 3, the changes being blinkers and tongue tie on. As Trainer Mrs G HEINRICH was not in attendance at today’s meeting an inquiry was adjourned into the reason for these gear changes failing to be notified by the prescribed time.
RACE 1 – FROSTBITE MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
GOLD ROUBLE and REDWAY knuckled over at the start.
BUSTER BALLOON was slow to begin.
S CAMPTON the rider of REDWAY was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 1,350m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of GOLD ROUBLE resulting in that horse being crowded on to KISS THE FROG which had to be checked. S Campton was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence at midnight on 27 April 2002 and expire at midnight on 10 May 2002.
Rounding the first turn KEL’S GAL commenced to race ungenerously with its head in the air when racing to the inside of CONCORDANT.
Over the concluding stages RED TRAIN was obliged to steady off the heels of REDWAY which shifted in.
GO JAN which tailed the field throughout the race was found to be shin sore following the event. Trainer G STEWART was advised that he must barrier trial the mare to the stewards’ satisfaction prior to its next race start.
A MORRISON could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of CONCORDANT. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be in a distressed state.
RACE 2 – COCA-COLA SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES (THREE-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES
EAGER BRIDE jumped out at the start and tightened HELL RAISER on to PHILP. As a result HELL RAISER continued to lay out for some distance severely crowding PHILP on to GO TEMPO. At the same stage MORINGA’S GENIE shifted in and crowded TAYLA’S GOLD.
BODY TALK jumped outwards at the start and tightened ULTRA SWING and SADLER’S DREAM on to DARING EAGLE.
BODY TALK raced fiercely in the early stages of the event.
For some distance inside the 700 metres HELL RAISER had to be steadied after racing up on to the heels of BODY TALK.
Approaching the 600 metres PHILP lost ground after having to be steadied off the heels of RAPADAMA.
BODY TALK ran wide rounding the home turn.
Approaching the 300 metres PHILP was held up for clear running for some distance behind the heels of DARING EAGLE.
Approaching the 200 metres RAPADAMA was disappointed for clear running between GO TEMPO and MORINGA’S GENIE which shifted out under pressure.
BODY TALK which compounded in the straight underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed the filly to be sore in the near fore shin.
RACE 3 – NESTLE DRUMSTICK (FILLIES AND MARES) (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES
HIDDEN VALLEY jumped out at the start and made heavy contact with the barrier partition.
Leaving the 900 metres LADY TRISH commenced to race ungenerously and threw its head in the air. A short distance later LADY TRISH then shifted in and struck the running rail. At the same stage AWESOME SHADOW which was also racing ungenerously shifted out and bumped BELLE OF THE SEA.
RACE 4 – SANTAL PLUS (CLASS 3) HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
C DAWES was replaced as the rider of WINGS OF SILVER by M LISTER. Stewards accepted C DAWES’ explanation for this occurrence as he had taken rides in Toowoomba and was unable to fulfil both commitments.
Following this event the official judge semaphored the placings as 2, 3, 1 and 8. After jockey M SMITH-LESTER, the rider of TRIP TO THE MOON, requested to view the photo finish, the judge then advised stewards that he had made an error and corrected the placings to read, 2, 3 8 and 1. Acting under the powers of AR156, stewards permitted this correction and ‘correct weight’ was notified on the amended numbers.
WINGS OF SILVER was slow to begin.
Leaving the 1,300 metres POETIC EARL shifted in abruptly resulting in ENTITY having to steady off that runner’s heels and as a result shifted in making contact with FOLLOW THE MAESTRO. M CARSON rider of POETIC EARL was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. POETIC EARL then commenced to over-race for some distance.
RACE 5 – “THE ORIGINAL & THE BEST” COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES
Trainer J NIELSEN made application to the stewards to have A MORRISON replaced as the rider of MONTESANTOS SPIRIT by M CARSON. Stewards agreed to this request and ruled that A MORRISON was entitled to the applicable riding fee.
MACK VIV stood as the gates opened and refused to jump. Trainer G FLACK was advised that he must barrier trial the gelding prior to its next race start.
Approaching the 900 metres STAR OF SNIPPETS had to be steadied after being tightened between VISCAY STAR which shifted out marginally when being restrained off the heels of MONTESANTOS SPIRIT and SLY DOCTOR (R HURLEY) which shifted in. As a result of this incident STONECRUSHER which was following had to be steadied. R HURLEY was advised to leave sufficient room for runners to his inside in future.
RACE 6 – THE CAVALIER HOMES CUP HANDICAP – 2,200 METRES
FLYING SPARKS jumped away awkwardly.
ZEDSQUARE was inclined to lay out when placed under pressure in the straight.
M LISTER (ZEDSQUARE) accidentally dropped his whip inside the 200 metres.
RACE 7 – TIP TOP SUNBLEST (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 2,200 METRES
Leaving the 800 metres BIG TIME ALLY had to be steadied to avoid the heels of the tiring TOFU. As a result AEROLITO which was following shifted out to avoid the heels of BIG TIME ALLY and in doing so forced AUNTY BESS wider on the track.
App. S MCLEAN was reprimanded for using an excessive amount of whip on BIG TIME ALLY when in the opinion of stewards the horse was out of contention.
RACE 8 – TIM TAM (CLASS 4) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES
Trainer R MILNE sought permission for FOXMORE to be ridden further back today as it was two starts previously at Eagle Farm on 30 March, as in his opinion the gelding is more suited to being ridden back than racing on the speed as was the case at its last start at Eagle Farm on 17 April. Stewards acceded to this request and an on-course announcement was made.
DAMIGOS and FOXMORE came together at the start.
CIRCLE OF WHITE over-raced in the early and middle stages.
Over the concluding stages FOXMORE shifted in under pressure and bumped MORINGA’S ORIENTAL.
Stewards questioned M LISTER the rider of FOXMORE regarding his riding of the gelding in the straight. He stated that approaching the 300 metres a run presented itself in front of him to the inside of MORINGA’S ORIENTAL but he had anticipated that that runner was going to shift in and impede his run so he elected to shift to the outside of that runner’s heels to obtain clear running. Stewards noted his explanation.
EIGHT WINNERS AND AEROLITO WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
