STEWARDS’ MR D HENSLER (CADET), MR J GRAHAM, MR M TUTT,
PANEL: MR W FLYNN AND MR S HURFORD (CADET)
RACE 1 – BREAKFAST WITH THE STARS MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 METRES
ALMIGHTY BUZZ jumped out at the start and tightened EAGLE’S GLANCE onto STUCK FAST.
A short distance after the start DID I DO IT and BR’ISLAND BOY were crowded for room between HYMN TO HER and SATNAQ both of which shifted ground.
Shortly after entering the straight STUCK FAST commenced to lay in when placed under pressure and approaching the 100 metres had to be steadied off the heels of ICENI which shifted out under pressure.
A postrace Veterinary examination of ICENI revealed the filly to have a haematoma on the right knee.
Following this event two riders approached Stewards with concerns regarding the track condition. Stewards subsequently inspected the track between the 800 and 400 metres and deemed the surface safe for racing.
The start time of the second event was put back to 12.40 p.m. and the third event back to 1.08 p.m.
RACE 2 – BRISBANE MARRIOTT HOTEL TWO YEAR OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1300 METRES
As D. CRAVEN was dually engaged in this event he was replaced as the rider of PUSHMATAHA by A. BAKER. As Stewards accepted the circumstances surrounding this occurrence no action was taken.
OUR ZOFFANY was slow to begin.
LONGER WONGARONGA jumped out at the start and hampered MY SWEETHEART.
Shortly after entering the straight SAM’S DREAM shifted in and made contact with SINGAPORE JET.
Approaching the 200 metres SAM’S DREAM shifted in under pressure and momentarily tightened the running of SINGAPORE JET. APP. S. MCLEAN (SAM’S DREAM) was cautioned for permitting his mount to shift ground when under pressure.
MY SWEETHEART and OUR ZOFFANY both raced wide throughout the event.
RACE 3 – USS LEXINGTON THREE YEAR OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1400 METRES
As A. ERHART failed to arrive on course he was replaced by M. SMITH-LESTER as the rider of DANCER’S EDGE. Stewards adjourned the enquiry into this matter to enable A. ERHART to be interviewed.
ROPE THE WIND jumped out at the start and tightened QUEEN OF VIOLINS onto HATSHEPSUT.
RACE 4 – REAR ADMIRAL J G GRACE CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES
APP. B. ALBUINO the rider of PINCER was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in approaching the 1000 metres, which resulted in SUNFAIR having to steady to avoid that runner’s heels.
RACE 5 – HMAS AUSTRALIA CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1800 METRES
Trainer D. Throsby was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to present ABOVE ALL by the prescribed time.
WINGS OF SILVER which reared over in the enclosure was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.
A. ROBINSON the rider of ABOVE ALL reported that shortly after coming into the home straight he had changed his whip to his right hand and in doing so his whip action was disadvantaged after being struck in the arm by a clod.
Jockey A. PATTILLO (DEAD CAT BOUNCE) was examined by the Club’s Doctor following this event and was stood down due to a shoulder injury. Stewards permitted the following rider replacements:-
Race 6 PULL MY STRING M. BENNETT
Race 8 BECKONING DANCER C. DAWES
RACE 6 – HMAS AUSTRALIA CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1800 METRES
LADY TRISH which hit its head in the barriers was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.
TRIVIAL PURSUITS and PULL MY STRING were to slow to begin.
Rounding the first turn WISHES which was inclined to lay in shifted in and tightened the running of LADY TRISH. G. BAKER (WISHES) was advised to exercise more care in future.
RACE 7 – 7 DAYS TO CONRAD JUPITERS PRIME MINISTER’S CUP CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1300 METRES
Trainer D. Newham was fined the sum of $50.00 for presenting NOTICE with the incorrect gear.
POLENTA jumped out at the start and hampered NOTICE.
Shortly after the start VEESAR and LADY VETTORI were crowded for room between GRAZIN’ FASHION and DOOLALLY which shifted out.
RACE 8 – PRIME MINISTER’S CUP COCKTAIL PARTY CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1300 METRES
As APP. S. MCLEAN was dually engaged in this event he was replaced as the rider of ASHELL by APP. B. ALBUINO. Stewards accepted APP. S. MCLEAN’S explanation for this occurrence.
Trainer R. Heathcote through his stable representative was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to present a letter of authority for IMPERIAL HEART and a further $50.00 for presenting the horse to the enclosure with the incorrect gear.
G. STEWART the Trainer of DESTRUCTIVE HABIT was fined the sum of $50.00 for late notification of rider.
CORROFIN jumped in at the start and bumped EXTRAVAGANT.
Rounding the home turn PALACE MOON shifted in momentarily when tiring and in doing so hampered AMBER TRAIL.
DESTRUCTIVE HABIT which compounded in the straight underwent a postrace Veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 9 – MIGHT AND POWER CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
Trainer M. Brosnan through her representative was fined the sum of $50.00 for late notification of rider for PENNY LONG LASHES.
PRECIFIC jumped in at the start and bumped MUKANIC.
Approaching the 1100 metres K. MAHONEY (PRECIFIC) whilst riding his mount along shifted in resulting in MUKANIC being crowded onto PENNY LONG LASHES. Stewards acknowledged that K. MAHONEY’S mount was inclined to lay in but he was nonetheless severely reprimanded and reminded of his obligations to be fully clear when shifting ground.
CYPRESS LAKES raced in restricted room to the inside of PRECIFIC from the 650 metres until inside the 500 metres. K. MAHONEY (PRECIFIC) was severely reprimanded for failing to make a greater effort to allow sufficient racing room for CYPRESS LAKES, bearing in mind the prevailing track conditions.
