GENERAL

From Gold Coast Turf Club Meeting 27 April 2002:

Stewards today fined Trainer Ms. G HEINRICH the sum of $250 for failing to notify two gear changes for CERTAIN EDITION – R1 and CERTAIN BLITZ – R3.

RACE 1 – CARLTON DRAUGHT (CLASS 6) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

ST. MALO and HERE FOR GLORY were both slow to begin.

Upon straightening THREATNER received contact from LINEA which at that stage attempted to shift out from behind CARAMEL STAR. LINEA was then held up for a short distance before obtaining clear running.

THREATNER pulled hard in the middle stages.

RACE 2 – CONRAD JUPITERS SPECIAL CONDITIONS HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

App. M McDONALD was fined $100 for failing to claim his full allowance on STORM PRINCESS.

RACE 3 – CARBINE CLUB FLYING HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES

Leaving the 200 metres NAZARETH was disappointed for a run between KRULEWSKI and DESK TOP LOVER which, after initially shifting in slightly of its own accord, was inclined to shift away from ALLEZ SUEZ.

S GALLOWAY the rider NAZARETH was fined $50 for failing to weigh in as the 5th placegetter.

Stable foreman Mr A GALLETLY was questioned regarding the improved performance of ALLEZ SUEZ. Mr Galletly stated that the horse had worked extremely well throughout this preparation and had raced well first up over the unsuitable 1,000 metre journey at Doomben on 6 April 2002. He indicated that at the horse’s most recent start at Eagle Farm he had indeed supported the gelding, however, he felt that in retrospect ALLEZ SUEZ did not stretch out fully on the firm track. Mr Galletly concluded by saying that ALLEZ SUEZ had obviously appreciated today’s track which was offering some give in the surface and also the use of blinkers which was a gear change today.

A veterinary examination of KYMESSA which weakened badly in the straight failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 4 – H. HARVEY GOLD COAST GUINEAS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES THREE-YEARS-OLD – 1,400 METRES

HARVEYNICKS and JOHN SYN were both slow to begin.

On jumping away ENEMY FIRE shifted out inconveniencing GLEN MONARCH.

S GALLOWAY, the rider of PRINCESS CLANG, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 1,200 metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of POLENTA resulting in that horse being taken in abruptly across the running of CLANGER which as a consequence was checked by its rider K POPE. S Galloway was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence midnight 15 May 2002 and expire at midnight 23 May 2002.

After being taken in slightly by ALIBARBER at the 1,100 metres MISS BUSSELL shifted in and away from that horse and had to be steadied off the heels of POLENTA.

Approaching the 1,000 metres HARVEYNICKS had to be steadied off the heels of JAR JAR BINKS which shifted in.

RACE 5 – CULPANS ELECTRICAL KEN RUSSELL MEMORIAL SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES (TWO-YEARS-OLD) CLASSIC – 1,300 METRES

TOP ECHELON was slow to begin.

On jumping away MITANNI and MALTESE LINER were tightened for room between GRANDWAY SHOGUN and KOOCHIE which jumped in.

At the 1,100 metres MITANNI had to be checked off the heels of ORIGIN HERO which shifted in. It was established that although its rider, J TAYLOR, had initially allowed ORIGIN HERO to shift in, the gelding soon afterwards over-reacted and shifted in quite abruptly despite the efforts of J TAYLOR to straighten that horse.

An inquiry was conducted into an incident at the 1,000 metres where D TANTI was dislodged from THEATREGOER. It was established that after SADDLER’S SILK had improved up on to the heels of EMINENTLY approaching the 1,000 metres, SADDLER’S SILK had then shifted in causing MESSIAEN to be tightened on to KOBI COVE. As a result KOBI COVE lost ground resulting in SPINNING CON having to be steadied off the heels of that colt. As a consequence THEATREGOER clipped the heels of SPINNING CON resulting in its rider, D TANTI, initially becoming unbalanced in the saddle and soon after was dislodged. Whilst stewards were satisfied that SADDLER’S SILK’s racing manners had contributed to the incident, J STANLEY was nonetheless cautioned by stewards for initially showing a lack of judgment in allowing his mount to race too close to the heels of EMINENTLY.

Passing the 500 metres EMINENTLY had to be checked when tightened for room between GRANDWAY SHOGUN which shifted in slightly and MESSIAEN which made contact with EMINENTLY on several occasions after improving in to a tight run inside EMINENTLY. In all the circumstances no action was taken, however, G SCHOFIELD the rider of GRANDWAY SHOGUN was urged to ensure that runners to his inside have comfortable racing room.

M RODD, the rider of LA PECHE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that nearing the 50 metres he permitted LE PECHE to shift out around the heels of SADDLER’S SILK to obtain clear running and as a consequence REDWOOD FALLS was taken out which resulted in ORIGIN HERO being taken out onto the heels of MITANNI. As a consequence ORIGIN HERO clipped the heels of MITANNI and fell dislodging its rider, J TAYLOR. M Rodd was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on Wednesday 15 May 2002, and expire at midnight on Sunday 26 May 2002.

A post race veterinary examination of ORIGIN HERO revealed the filly to have sustained a laceration inside the upper lip and a further laceration to the outside of the off side cannon.

RACE 6 – NORCO PAULS MILK A.D. HOLLINDALE STAKES WEIGHT FOR AGE – 1,800 METRES

Leaving the 1,200 metres MR. BUREAUCRAT tended to over-race after being placed in restricted room inside HIRSCHBERG.

Passing the 200 metres IN SINGAPORE and FETES GALANTES were cramped for room between BRIGHTER SCENE and REGENT STREET both of which shifted ground slightly.

At the 100 metres MR. BUREAUCRAT brushed KINGSGATE when taking a narrow run to the inside of that horse.

Passing the 50 metres REGENT STREET was inconvenienced by KAAPSTAD WAY which shifted in under pressure. G COLLESS the rider of KAAPSTAD WAY was cautioned.

A swab sample was taken from the second placegetter, KAAPSTAD WAY.

RACE 7 – CONRAD JUPITERS PRIME MINISTER’S CUP HANDICAP – 2,400 METRES

At the 2,200 metres COUNT SCENARIO had to be steadied off the heels of FEED THE METRE which shifted in. MAYTHEHORSEBEWITHU which was following was obliged to shift out abruptly away from the heels of COUNT SCENARIO.

Near the 1,600 metres PRIZED GEM tended to race ungenerously.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight BLANCHARD was impeded for a run behind DANYON and to the inside of MAYTHEHORSEBEWITHU. BLANCHARD was not able to obtain clear running until after passing the 100 metres.

MAYTHEHORSEBEWITHU which compounded over the concluding stages, underwent a subsequent veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormality.

A post race veterinary examination of FEED THE METER revealed lacerations to the near hind leg.

A swab sample was taken from the second placegetter, BLANCHARD.

RACE 8 – VON BIBRA HONDA GOLD COAST SPECIAL CONDITIONS HANDICAP – 2,200 METRES

As Jockey G BAKER was indisposed due to illness, B YORK replaced him as the rider of ALL MANJACK.

CROFTSIDE PARK jumped out at the start tightening AEROLITO on to MAKES ME DIZZY.
