GOLD COAST TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.16.11.02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr D Hensler (Chairman), Mr J Graham, Mr J Haigh, Mr P Gillard and Mr C Ferguson (Cadet)

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - SLOW

RACE 1: BOOK NOW – MAGIC MILLIONS H’CAP (3YO MAIDEN) - 1800M.

ON THE TAKE jumped away awkwardly.

M. Gray was reprimanded for failing to weigh in as the 5th place-getter on ANGEL OF PEACE.

RACE 2: COMMERCE QUEENSLAND CONSULTANCY H’CAP (CLASS 1) – 900M.

DRAGON DELITE was slow to begin.

KHITOBAI jumped out at the start and tightened AWESOME COMET on to CONISTON’S WARRIOR.

When questioned regarding the performance of KHITOBAI, App. B. Dieckmann stated that the gelding did not handle the rain affected track and hung out rounding the home turn and further, was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination of KHITOBAI failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 3: ALCHEMY PTY LTD H’CAP (FILLES & MARES MAIDEN) – 1400M.

UPPITY reared as the gates opened and lost considerable ground as a result.

A post race veterinary examination of BEAT THE BEST revealed low grade shin soreness in both fore legs.

RACE 4: RAY WHITE BURLIEHG HEADS H’CAP (CLASS 1) – 1400M.

ROMAN OMEN jumped in at the start and bumped TIMESTO.

Inside the 50 metres, SOJOURNER veered in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider and as a result hampered CRAIGLEA HOPE.

MAXCAY was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.

D. Craven, the rider of MAJOR DILEMMA pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(2)(a) in that shortly after entering the straight, when his mount was inclined to hang in, he struck it with the whip on three occasions forward of the shoulder. D. Craven was fined the sum of $200.

RACE 5: WORKFORCE ONE PTY LTD H’CAP (COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN) – 1400M.

Rounding the home turn DOOKIE DAZE had to be steadied off the heels of KING TARZAN (App. S. McDonald) which shifted out. App. S. McDonald was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KING TARZAN, App. S. McDonald stated that the gelding did not handle the rain affected track conditions, particularly when placed under pressure from inside the 600 metres. A post race veterinary examination of KING TARZAN failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 6: OZKLEEN ASIA PACIFIC PTY LTD H’CAP (CLASS 2) – 1200M.

App. A Best, the rider of TOUCH OF MOOBALL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 700 metres, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear resulting in THESPIAN PRINCE having to be checked. App. A. Best was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence at midnight 18 November 2002 and to expire at midnight 30 November 2002.

Rounding the home turn VIROSCO was momentarily tightened between ROADSPY and SEMAGIC which shifted out.

A post race veterinary examination of VIROSCO revealed the gelding to be sore in the near fore fetlock. Trainer P. Balzen was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate of soundness prior to its next race start. Trainer P. Balzen reported that it was now his intention to spell VIROSCO.

RACE 7: COMMERCE QUEENSLAND MEMBERSHIP H’CAP – 1400M.

SKIMBLESHANKS which became fractious and reared in the barriers was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

RACE 8: COMMERCE QUEENSLAND H’CAP – 1800M.

ADVANCE KNOWLEDGE was slow to begin.

Leaving the 1200 metres, KING’S CONCERT had to be checked by its rider after racing up on to the heels of DASHING HERB.
