GENERAL:

Stewards today conducted an inquiry into the analysts report on the urine sample provided by licensed trackwork rider B Finch on 20 November 2002. B Finch pleaded guilty of a breach of AR81A(1) in that he provided a sample which was found to contain Cannabis. B Finch’s privilege to ride trackwork was suspended for a 3 month period effective from 25 November 2002, on which day he was stood down from riding trackwork, up to and including 24 February 2003. B Finch was advised that he must provide a urine sample for analysis before being relicensed.

RACE 1: THANK YOU GOLD COAST H’CAP (MAIDEN) - 1200M.

K Pope who was dislodged from POWER AND DESIRE behind the barriers was examined by the ambulance officers and passed fit to take his ride on that gelding.

KENDRICK LAD was slow to begin.

Approaching the 900m JIVIN’ GYM had to be steadied off the heels of CLASSIC MANNER which shifted in.

POWER AND DESIRE was forced to race wide throughout.

Close to the finishing line LADY LYNX had to steady to avoid the heels of KENDRICK LAD which shifted in.

A Best was reprimanded for allowing KENDRICK LAD to shift in after the winning post tightening CLASSIC MANNER in on to STUCK FAST which resulted in DIAMOND LASS having to be severely checked.

RACE 2: CELEBRATE AUSTRALIA DAY – 25 JANUARY H’CAP (MAIDEN) - 1800M.

MALMISCHIEF and NERRENA were slow to begin.

LUNAR FLAME was also slow to begin. Trainer R Kirwan was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.

Approaching the first turn MARKET MAN shifted out hampering LUNAR FLAME.

MALMISCHIEF raced wide in the middle stages.

LUNAR FLAME was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Rounding the home turn NERRENA shifted out to improve to the outside of the heels of PICCOLO PLAYER and in doing so forced ROBREDO, GAELIC PRINCE and KING JEUNE wider on the track.

Shortly after straightening BEATLEMANIA continued to improve and made contact with NERRENA. NERRENA then shifted back in and made contact with BEATLEMANIA. NERRENA continued to shift in under pressure and near the 150m BEATLEMANIA had to be steadied to avoid that horse’s heels.

Stewards questioned App. D Ballard regarding his handling of KING JEUNE in the early stages of the straight. App. Ballard stated that after beginning well he was trapped wide in the early stages and elected to settle the colt back in the field. He was then taken wider rounding the home turn. In his opinion as KING JEUNE was under pressure he elected to switch back to the fence. Stewards advised App. Ballard that in their opinion his action in switching back to the fence lacked judgment when he had clear running in his position wider on the track.

RACE 3: LADIES DAY – 22 MARCH H’CAP (CLASS 2) - 1800M.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the handling of TWIN ISLAND and PROUD ASCOT in the early and middle stages. After taking evidence from their respective riders, C Whiteley and N Jolly, and stable representatives, Mr M Potter (J Wallace) and Mr B Dais (R Heathcote), the matter was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

MAGRITTE was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Near the 50m LA HULA BELLE had to be steadied off the heels of TWIN ISLAND.

S Shield (MOONLIT SEA) was fined the sum of $50 for returning to scale in excess of ½ kg over his declared weight.

RACE 4: CONGRATULATIONS ‘BIAGGIO’ – WINNER OF THE CONRAD JUPITERS MAGIC MILLIONS 3YO TROPHY H’CAP (THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN) - 1200M.

CEDDIE raced wide in the early and middle stages.

PHUZA MOYA over-raced in the early and middle stages and shifted out abruptly after being struck with the whip near the 100m. Trainer J Wallace’s representative was advised that PHUZA MOYA must officially barrier trial prior to its next start.

Rounding the home turn VIVA LA VITA which shifted out to improve, forced FRENCH LA REV and LORD VOLDEMORT wider on the track.

RACE 5: CONGRATULATIONS ‘REGIMENTAL GAL’ – WINNER OF THE CONRAD JUPITERS MAGIC MILLIONS 2YO CLASSIC H’CAP (FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1) - 1400M.

App. D Ballard (AVALANCHE OF ROSES) was reprimanded for shifting in when insufficiently clear of WELTODO resulting in WELTODO being taken in on to PETRIA which had to be checked. In this incident PETRIA was inclined to lay in and away from WELTODO and as a result AUSSIE FLYER was inconvenienced. PETRIA was inclined to lay in for some distance.

Near the 900m PETRIA brushed the running rail.

In the early stages of the straight BI BI JARNO was held up for clear running.

C Whiteley, the rider of PETRIA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 75m he attempted a run to the inside of WELTODO where there was insufficient room and in doing so made contact with AVALANCHE OF ROSES which became unbalanced resulting in the mare having to be checked. C Whiteley was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence at midnight 20 January 2003 and expire at Midnight 30 January 2003.

RACE 6: CONRAD JUPITERS PRIME MINISTER’S CUP – 10 MAY H'CAP (CLASS 3) - 2200M.

Rounding the first turn FAST DUKE was forced wider on the track by JUST MACCA which shifted out.

SCOOTERS was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

MR. INSURANCE was inclined to lay in under pressure inside the final 100m.

Stewards intend speaking to Jockey D Craven regarding his failure to seek a clearance prior to leaving the track and also returning to scale in excess of ½ kg overweight following his ride on ACTIVE REST.

Stewards questioned N Jolly into the seemingly disappointing performance of THYLACINE. Jockey N Jolly stated that in his opinion the mare raced like a tired horse and was beaten a long way from home. Stable Foreman Mr B Dais stated that the connections may be considering sending the horse for a break. A post race veterinary examination of THYLACINE revealed deep lacerations to the off hind pastern.

RACE 7: BOOK YOUR NEXT FUNCTION IN THE DOME H'CAP (COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 1) - 1400M.

GETZEN was slow to begin

When the pace steadied approaching the 900m, TARA’S SONG had to be steadied off the heels of BOONGALA.

MUKQUIN was forced to race wide throughout.

Rounding the home turn UP THE SLEEVE, when shifting out to improve, made contact with MUKQUIN.

BOONGALA was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Near the 200m MUKQUIN which was weakening, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of TARA’S SONG which shifted out slightly.

App. D Gay (BOONGALA) was reprimanded for failing to straighten his mount over the final 200m.

RACE 8: SURFERS PARADISE MARRIOTT RESORT H'CAP (CLASS 6) - 1200M.

ACHIEVE THE GOAL was slow to begin.

SCORSESE was forced to race wide throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of LEVANTE revealed a laceration to the outside of the right knee.


ALL WINNERS AND TWIN ISLAND WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
