GENERAL:
As D. Schmitt was unable to fulfil his riding engagements at today’s event Stewards permitted the following rider replacements:-
Race 3 ADILLO ADILLO C. Whitely
Race 6 BLAZING DANCER S. Shield

Trainer S. Jones was fined the sum of $100.00 for failing to notify that IN COBARGO would race in blinkers.
RACE 1: CULPANS ELECTRICAL H’CAP - 1200 M.
THAT’S MY MUM jumped away awkwardly.
MARRY ME DEE had to be eased near the 1000 metres when momentarily tightened by LOTS ‘N’ LOTS.
APACHE WHITE SOX brushed the running rail leaving the 900 metres.
C. Whiteley was questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of MANHATTAN EAGLE, which failed to run on as expected. C. Whiteley stated that the horse failed to travel well at any stage in the heavy track conditions and had difficulty holding its position in the early stages.
Stewards questioned M. Williamson and trainer’s representative D. Livingstone concerning the variation in riding tactics on THAT’S MY MUM in today’s event as compared to its previous start at the Gold Coast on the 22nd February, 2003 when the horse was ridden back in the field. M. Williamson confirmed the instructions to ride the horse forward today and he indicated that after jumping awkwardly he was rode the horse forward to occupy a position outside the leader. D. Livingstone advised that at the horse’s previous start the horse was ridden quietly in the early stages and it was decided today that the horse should be ridden forward due to being drawn wide. The explanations were noted however, the connections were cautioned for failing to inform stewards of the variation in riding tactics and they were advised that it would be expected where possible that the horse be ridden consistently.
RACE 2: BORAL CONCRETE & QUARRIES H’CAP - 1800 M.
WATCH YOUR STEP was slow to jump.
App M. Spriggs the rider of MAGIC TUMBLER pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that leaving the 1600 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of PICTON, resulting in PICTON being checked, making contact with the running rail and blundering. App M. Spriggs’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of nine (9) meetings to commence at midnight Saturday 8th March, 2003 and to expire at midnight Thursday 20th March, 2003.
RACE 3: GENIE AUSTRALIA PLATE – 1400 M.
App. M. Spriggs the rider of CADDY JACK was cautioned for allowing his mount to shift in near the 1200 metres tightening LOVE A SONG onto EXALTER.
Near the 900 metres GARLAND IN BLOOM which was racing fiercely shifted out taking LOVE A SONG wider on the track. Shortly after this incident EXALTER had to be eased after improving between ADILLO ADILLO and LOVE A SONG where there was restricted room.
The Club’s veterinary surgeon reported that LIGHTS had sustained a laceration to the near hind fetlock.
RACE 4: CARSWELL & CO H’CAP – 2200 M.
Trainer M. Brosnan was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to notify a rider for MR. INSURANCE by the prescribed time.
Approaching the 1700 metres SISSANO when being eased off the heels of MR. INSURANCE shifted in and made contact with RISKY BUSINESS.
RACE 5: GENERAL RENTALS H’CAP – 1400 M.
C. Whiteley was fined the sum of $100.00 for accepting rides on VIVA LA VITA and BOATHARBOUR ROAD at declaration time.
As S. Campton was unable to fulfil his engagement on VIVA LA VITA due to riding commitments in Toowoomba stewards approved App. R. Hurley as the replacement rider due to the unavailability of a senior rider. Due to the circumstances stewards imposed no penalty on App. R. Hurley for failing to claim his full allowance. Trainer G. Ryan was fined the sum of $100.00 for failing to confirm S. Campton’s availability.
NEDDINGTON and COSSACK GOLD were crowded between GEORGIA’S HOPE and DANTIBES’ INFERNO when both horses shifted ground at the start.
BOATHARBOUR ROAD and PARAMETER both raced wide throughout.
BRASH lost its off hind plate during running.
RACE 6: FIXZIT ASHGROVE H'CAP – 1400 M.
CORRETJA was slow to jump.
Approaching the 1100 metres TIMBALE shifted in and hampered TRIVIAL PURSUITS.
Leaving the 1300 metres BLAZING DANCER and TRIVIAL PURSUITS were momentarily tightened by TIMBALE which shifted in.
Near the 1100 metres TRIVIAL PURSUITS was momentarily crowded when TIMBALE again shifted in.
RACE 7: HEYDAY ELECTRICS H'CAP – 1200 M.
RISING ROYAL was slow to jump.
Near the 1000 metres OURS clipped the heels of FRENCH GENTLEMAN and blundered.
At a subsequent inquiry it was established that FRENCH GENTLEMAN was hanging in despite the efforts of its rider S. Shield. At the time of this incident HUGE JET which was racing to the inside of OURS was inclined to shift out and away from BLAZE A FORTUNE.
RACE 8: MASTER BUILDERS TECHNOLOGIES H'CAP – 1300 M.
Following an explanation from M. Thexton in relation to the late notification of D. Ballard as the rider of RATIO, no penalty was imposed.
Trainer K. Tinsley was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to notify C. Whiteley as the rider of BOULDER BLAZE within the prescribed time.
MUREX jumped away awkwardly.
FULL SONG shifted out at the start and made contact with MOON JET.
Approaching the 1000 metres FULL SONG was tightened by TARANA AVENUE which was taken out by JO MAC. At the time of this incident MOON JET which was racing to the outside of FULL SONG had to be checked to avoid the heels of SAM’S DREAM which shifted in. App. M. Spriggs the rider of SAM’S DREAM was reprimanded and advised to provide sufficient clearance in similar circumstances.
For some distance after this incident MOON JET was inclined to race fiercely and near the 800 metres had to be checked to avoid the heels of SAM’S DREAM.
MOON JET sustained a laceration to the near fore fetlock.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
