GENERAL
From Gold Coast Track Work 16 September, 2003
Stablehand S. McLean was fined the sum of $50.00 for a breach of LR12A in that he was
smoking whilst mounted on a horse at track work.
Due to a clerical error the following gear changes for today's program were not advertised
via the press but were announced on course:-
Race 3 FINAL PREP Blinkers on
Race 3 VACILLATE Blinkers on
Race 4 TILES Blinkers on

P.G. Birney was reprimanded for failing to seek clearance to leave the course when he
was required for an enquiry on this day.
RACE 1: BOOK NOW FOR MELBOURNE CUP - TUESDAY 4 NOVEMBER H'CAP
(CLASS 1) - 2015M
BREAKER'S WELLS jumped away awkwardly.
IRISH NEWS commenced to overrace passing the winning post on the first occasion.
When questioned regarding the riding tactics on LE COLONEL D. Browne advised that he was
instructed to attempt to take a forward position in today's event, which appeared on face value
to be contrary to the normal racing pattern of the gelding. Trainer B. Guy's representative
confirmed these instructions and advised that similar instructions were issued for the gelding's
last start but due to the pace of the race on that occasion the rider was unable to go forward and
raced in a midfield position. His explanation was accepted.
RACE 2: DEL LAWYERS H'CAP - 1110M
CRAZY LASS was slow to begin.
LION DOWN jumped away awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
KOOMERANG TOO raced greenly and refused to settle in the early stages.
LION DOWN raced greenly in the early stages and throughout the middle stages had to
be steadied on a number of occasions off the heels of SILVER ROSSY which raced
erratically.
Leaving the 250 metres SOUTHERN SNAP which was inclined to lay in had to be checked
off the heels of SHE'S ALL AT SEA which shifted out slightly. SOUTHERN SNAP was
then held up for clear running over the final 100 metres.
SILVER ROSSY suffered a bleeding attack during the event. Trainer L. Ross was advised that
the SILVER ROSSY will incur a mandatory three(3) month ban from racing. A swab sample
was taken from the filly.
M. Johnston the rider of SOUTHERN SNAP was reprimanded for weighing in in excess
of 1/2 kilo over his allotted weight. In issuing the reprimand stewards took into account M.
Johnston had not previously been spoken to over an incident of this nature.
A postrace veterinary examination of LION DOWN failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 3: LEX BELL, MP - 1200 M-
LIMBEA was slow to begin after jumping out and making contact with the barrier partition.
ROMAN PRINCESS and VACILLATE were crowded at the start between HIGHBURY
LASS and GLORIADA which jumped outwards.
Approaching the first turn FINAL PREP had to be steadied after racing up onto the heels of
ROMAN PRINCESS.
Approaching the 200 metres VACILLATE was held up for clear running.
Approaching the 100 metres VACILLATE shifted in under pressure and made contact with
and unbalanced GLORIADA.
A postrace veterinary examination of LIMBEA revealed the mare to be slightly lame in the near
hind leg.
RACE 4: STEINDLS LAWYERS H'CAP - 1200 M
RED DECOY which was kicked behind the barriers was examined by the Club's veterinary
surgeon and passed fit to start.
CONGREGATE jumped out at the start and bumped TILES.
OBI WAN jumped out at the start and bumped DEMOLITION. OBI WAN then shifted in
and hampered SET FOR STARDOM.
Approaching the first turn SET FOR STARDOM which was overracing had to be restrained
off the heels of ANGULAR.
C. Whiteley the rider of MUBBS was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a)
in that leaving the 400 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear resulting in
BUZZER having to be checked and subsequently blunder after striking the heels of MUBBS.
C. Whiteley's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of six(6) meetings to
commence immediately and expire midnight 28 September, 2003. In assessing penalty
stewards took into account C. Whiteley's good race riding record.
CONGREGATE raced wide throughout the event.
From leaving the 250 metres until inside the 200 metres SET FOR STARDOM was held up for
clear running.
RACE 5: PRP VALUERS MAIDEN H'CAP - 1600M
Trainer M. Thexton through her representative was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to
produce the registration papers for STATISTICAL.
EXOTIQUE MISS and CORRIENTE were slow to begin.
TOMB RAIDER was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
Shortly after entering the straight COLONIAL NED was placed in restricted room to the
inside of KIAH ROSE which was inclined to lay in.
Approaching the 200 metres COLONIAL NED attempted to improve inside CLASE BOY
where there was doubtful running and as a result had to be steadied when that runner shifted
in.
A postrace veterinary examination of KIAH ROSE revealed the mare to be sore in the near
fore leg. Trainer S. Jones will be advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance prior
to the mare racing again.
RACE 6:HAMMERCRETE CLASS 5 H'CAP - 1110M
Approaching the 1000 metres PLAY ME was obliged to steady off the heels of JUST AWE
which was taken in by ALGORITHM (D. Craven). PLAY ME then commenced to overrace
for some distance. D. Craven was advised to provide sufficient clearance in future when shifting ground.
RACE 7: ATTWOOD MARSHALL LAWYERS CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1200M
As M. Smith-Lester was indisposed through injury stewards permitted M. Williamson to be
substituted as the rider of ULTRA SWING.
A. Russell was stood down by the Club's doctor and replaced as the rider of OPAL RAINBOW
by G. Palmer.
ALLSORT, ULTRA SWING and INVERSE RATIO were all obliged to race wide throughout
the event.
MOSSAIRE was held up for clear running from leaving the 300 metres until inside the final 100
metres.
RACE 8: TERRY PAGE RACING CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1200M
TRISTACASS was slow to begin.
LUNCHTIME LAD overraced in the early stages and leaving the 700 metres shifted in and
crowded TRISTACASS.
OUTBOARD was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
Shortly after entering to straight MOST ASSUREDLY was crowded for room between
CHARLIE'S CHANCE which shifted in slightly and LUNCHTIME LAD which shifted
out when attempting to improve around the heels of LIGHT THE PIPE.
EIGHT WINNERS PLUS SILVER ROSSY WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
