STEWARDS REPORT - GOLD COAST TURF CLUB - 13 DECEMBER 2003

WEATHER: Overcast TRACK: Good
RAIL: Out 6m 1000 - 400m; Out 7m for the remainder.
RACE 1: CLASSIC FORKLIFTS PLATE (MAIDEN) (DIVISION ONE) - 1400M
TUDOR SONG was slowly away.
Soon after the start CIMARRON TRAIL had to be checked when tightened for room between PALACE JEST which shifted in and MAJOR MACKENZIE which was taken out by KISS THE FROG. In this incident PALACE JEST became unbalanced.
DUAL SUCCESS was inclined to hang in, in the middle stages of the race.
WHAT'S TO COME was held up for clear running approaching the 200m.
C Whiteley the rider of DUAL SUCCESS was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finishing line.
PALACE JEST lost its off fore plate in running.
After the running of Race 1, D Ballard (WHAT'S TO COME) was examined by the club's doctor who declared him unfit to fulfil his remaining engagements. Stewards perrmitted the following riding replacements:

RACE 2: JOHN SCHUBERT & CO ACCOUNTANTS PLATE (MAIDEN) - 1400M
At the start MAY THUNDER and WITH PRUDENCE were crowded between CHARLEE BUKIT which jumped in and DRAVEEN which jumped outwards.
Near the 1000m FASHION STAR had to be steadied off the heels of POLISH COURT.
WITH PRUDENCE was obliged to race wide throughout.
RACE 3: IMAGETEC PHOTOGRAPHIC & DIGITAL H'CAP (THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN) - 1200M
The start of this race was delayed when KING JACO shifted a hind plate on two occasions prior to being presented in the enclosure. Subsequently both hind plates were pulled off and the horse raced barefoot behind.
RULING DANE was slowly away.
TRUE SEDUCTION and PELICAN JACK were slowly away.
OAKY MISS jumped out at the start and made heavy contact with KENLEAF which in turn made contact with FAIR MONARCH both of which became unbalanced.
When App D Gay was questioned regarding RULING DANE's performance today, he stated that after being very slow to jump, the horse over-raced in the early stages and was reluctant to take part in the event. Trainer K Tinsley was advised that a warning would be placed on RULING DANE in relation to its barrier and racing manners.
When App M Spriggs was questioned regarding KENLEAF's performance today, he stated that the gelding was inclined to over-race in the early stages of the race and hung in and that when he asked the gelding for an effort near the 500m it did not respond. In the circumstances he felt RULING DANE was disappointing.
When questioned over the change in riding tactics for TIS HOPEFUL, Trainer H Norman stated that at its previous start at Doomben, when having its first start for the stable, the jockey was instructed that day to go forward, however, TIS HOPEFUL missed the start and got back in the field. He added that the filly in its barrier trials has always travelled forward and that was the intention today if possible.
When questioned over the performance of IN ORDER today, Jockey S Sargeant stated that the colt was reluctant to hold its position when racing in restricted room. He added that when asked for an effort the horse failed to respond and did not finish the race off. He felt it was very disappointing. IN ORDER was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon which failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken from IN ORDER.
M Gray (FAIR MONARCH) was fined $50 for weighing in overweight.
RACE 4:WESTERN SUBURBS LANDSCAPE & BUILDING SUPPLIES H'CAP (CLASS 2) (DIVISION ONE) - 1800M
Trainer M Thexton was fined $50 for the late notification of D Miller as the rider of RATIO.
COACH'S BLAST was slowly away.
LEICA FERRARI jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with the starting gate.
Approaching the fist turn KINBEACHIE had to be steadied off the heels of POWER PACIFIC.
In the early and middle stages LEICA FERRARI was inclined to over-race.
INVERSE RATIO was obliged to travel wide in the middle stages.
Near the 200m BROPHY had to be steadied off the heels of LEICA FERRARI which shifted in slightly.
RACE 5: WASHPOOL LODGE H'CAP (CLASS 2) (DIVISION TWO) - 1800M
SQUADRON COMMANDER dislodged its rider, App. L Fitzsimmons, in the preliminary and completed a circuit of the track. The gelding underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently a late withdrawal at 2.33pm. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on SQUADRON COMMANDER be refunded with deductions of 12 cents in the dollar for the win and 11 cents in the dollar for the place on the face value of win and place tickets applicable.
For some distance in the back straight, OFFICE BOY over-raced.
Approaching the 200m DASH ON RUBY was taken in by DANTIBES' INFERNO and SNOW HAWK which was following had to be eased.
RACE 6: EDMONDSON FINANCIAL RESOURCES PTY LTD H'CAP (CLASS 3) - 1200M
BAR ECLIPSE jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 200m BAR ECLIPSE shifted in and inconvenienced GENESIS.
Mr A Cliffe, Trainer of SMART JOKER which raced very erratically in the early and middle stages, was advised that the gelding would have to pass a barrier trial prior to racing again.
RACE 7: QUEENSLAND TURF PHOTOGRAPHY H'CAP (FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1) - 1200M
Trainer J Wade was fined $50 for late notification of a rider for LADY BREAKFAST.
After the start LIGHTNING ROUGE shifted out taking SOVEREIGN RUSH out on to ALTAO which was inconvenience.
Near the 1000m STAR GIVER shifted out and hampered LIGHTNING ROUGE. Soon after LAURISTON ROSE had to be steadied off the heels of LIGHTNING ROUGE which shifted out slightly.
Near the 800m LIGHTNING ROUGE had to be steadied off the heels of WINNER'S CHOICE which shifted in.
Near the 600m LIGHTNING ROUGE had to shift out abruptly to avoid the heels of WINNER'S CHOICE when the pace slackened.
A post race veterinary examination of SOVEREIGN RUSH revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore.
RACE 8: OAKWOOD FARM H'CAP (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 1) - 1200M
PROUD NATIVE and OUR MR PERSONALITY jumped away awkwardly.
App. L Fitzsimmons was cautioned for allowing his mount AIR SPECIFIC to shift in near the 1000m tightening the running of KENDRICK LAD and GOLD COURSER. In this incident KENDRICK LAD had to be steadied and RETRIBUTION which was racing to the inside of GOLD COURSER was hampered.
Approaching the 800m PROUD NATIVE had to be steadied off the heels of RETRIBUTION.
Approaching the 600m OUR MR PERSONALITY shifted in and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of BUCK SEASON resulting in OUR MR PERSONALITY becoming very unbalanced.
OUR MR PERSONALITY raced wide throughout.
In the early stages of the straight PROUD NATIVE was unable to obtain clear running.
RACE 9 - 21 DAYS TO CONRAD JUPITERS MAGIC MILLION RACING CARNIVAL H'CAP (CLASS 5) - 1400M
RAUTAI'S WARRIOR blundered on jumping.
Soon after MIGHTY BLAZE, RAUTAI'S WARRIOR and TUDOR QUEST were severely tightened for room between LORD ALANNON which shifted in and RAVENOUS MAKTIG SI which shifted out.
Near the 1,100m VOLKMAN had to be steadied off the heels of TUDOR QUEST. ALFRED which was following also had to steady.
SEMAGIC and BUNDEENA BOY raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 600m RAVENOUS MAKTIG SI had to steady off the heels of ENA'S PRIDE and as a result MAXCAY which was following also had to be steadied.
A post race veterinary examination of ENA'S PRIDE revealed the mare to be sore in the off side hind.
NINE WINNERS AND IN ORDER WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
