WEATHER: FINE TRACK: GOOD
RAIL: OUT 4M FROM THE 1400M TO THE 1800M
OUT 3M FOR THE REMAINDER
RACE 1: ASSET FINANCIAL SERVICES H'CAP - 900M
OH KITTY and MISS COOL CARD jumped away awkwardly.
SILVER NOTE and GLOBAL THUNDER were both slow to jump and lost considerable
ground.
GLOBAL THUNDER which returned to scale with blood in one nostril was subsequently
examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who confirmed that the gelding had blood in
one nostril.
RACE 2: GOLD COAST BULLETIN H'CAP - 1300M
NOBBY'S CREEK and OUR MR LORD were both slow to jump.
CHUCK'S HIT was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event and approaching
the home turn commenced to hang out.
At the entrance to the straight BUNGER shifted out to improve taking CYCLONIC
WAYS wider on the track.
RACE 3: 3D CRYSTAL H'CAP - 1200M
Trainer T. Trihey was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to notify App. D. Ballard as the
rider of MORINGA'S HOBO by the prescribed time.
Approaching the home turn STATISTICAL had to be steadied off the heels of PENTAL
ADVENTURE. A short distance later PENTAL ADVENTURE shifted out taking
MORINGA'S HOBO, MAY THUNDER and LET'S GROOVE wider on the track.
Passing the 300 metres MAY THUNDER had to be steadied off the heels of LET'S
GROOVE. A short distance later STATISTICAL when under pressure shifted in
resulting in PENTAL ADVENTURE shifting in and away from STATISTICAL. In this
incident SECRET PASSER had to be steadied.
Jockey D. Miller the rider of PENTAL ADVENTURE was reprimanded for failing to ride
his mount out to the line. Stewards took into consideration his mount's racing manners.
Trainer P. Bell was questioned in regard to the improved performance of LET'S GROOVE
compared to its last start when sixth of ten at Gladstone on the 10th January, 2004. Mr P. Bell
stated that LET'S GROOVE suffered severe interference during the race which he believed cost
the gelding any chance of winning. His comments were noted.
When questioned in regards to the seemingly disappointing performance of MARKET MAGIC
C. Whiteley stated that in his opinion the horse raced up to its trackwork and trial performance.
C. Whiteley's comments were noted.
A postrace veterinary examination of BELLO MONTATO revealed the horse had pulled up
lame in the near side fore leg.
RACE 4: GILHOOLEYS IRISH PUBS H'CAP - 1200M
OUR THUNDER GIRL and MS ALOYO were slow away.
FOREVER SARAH and ESSENTIALLY made contact on jumping.
Approaching the first turn VELVET POWER had to be steadied off the heels of HABITUE
which shifted in slightly. ESSENTIALLY which was following also had to be steadied.
Trainer D. Sutton was questioned regarding the improved performance of REMI BRANDY
compared to seventh of eight on the 7th January, 2004 at the Gold Coast. Mr Sutton stated that
on that day REMI BRANDY was having its first start in a race and the filly failed to handle the
heavy track conditions. His comments were noted.
Stewards will question Jockey J. Haitana at a later date into the reason he left the course
and his use of the whip in the straight.
RACE 5: VODAFONE RED SIM CLASS 2 H'CAP - 900M
SPLENDID SEQUENCE reared as the gates opened and veered to the outside running rail
dislodging its rider D. Tanti. D. Tanti was subsequently stood down by the Club's doctor who
reported he had sustained an injury to his right wrist. Stewards permitted the following rider
replacements:-
Race 6 VOYEUR D. Green
Race 7 RUSTIC RAMBLER B. Swanton
At the start CROWNED LADY and ROCKY SPRINGS were hampered between SUN
CATCHER and IN THE JUDGE'S BOX which shifted in. A short distance later ROCKY
SPRINGS once again had to be steadied off the heels of IN THE JUDGE'S BOX.
Jockey C. Whiteley the rider of NEPTUNE'S LASS reported that his mount hung out during
the event.
RACE 6: 102.9 HOT TOMATO CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1800M
OMNI POWER was slow to begin.
SOLIDIFIED was obliged to race wide in the middle stages.
App. D. Ballard accidentally dropped his whip passing the 200 metres.
RACE 7: LUCY COLE PRESTIGE PROPERTIES H'CAP - 1200M
As A. Abrahams had been stood down by the Club's doctor at Doomben stewards permitted
M. Traecey to be substituted as the rider of COUNT IVOR in this event and by P. Cuddihy as
the rider of GLOW MOSA in Race 8.
DON CASTELLO was slow to jump.
KIDNAPPER jumped away awkwardly.
ASTRA CITI and ARETINO made contact on jumping.
C. Whiteley the rider of ARETINO was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137
(a) in that approaching the 850 metre mark he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of
LADY BREAKFAST which in turn shifted in, this resulted in COUNT IVOR having to be
checked. ASTRA CITI which was following COUNT IVOR had to be steadied as a
consequence. C. Whiteley's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7)
meetings to commence midnight 8 February, 2004 and to expire midnight 21 February, 2004.
In assessing penalty stewards took into account C. Whiteley's good race riding record.
Passing the 500 metres DON CASTELLO had to be steadied off the heels of TOO MUCH
TROUBLE.
RESCUE BOUND was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
COVET THE CROWN which bled for the second time will incur the mandatory Australian
life racing ban.
Stewards questioned App. D. Gay and Trainer E. Hayes in regards to the riding tactics adopted
on DON CASTELLO. App. Gay stated that he was instructed to have the gelding racing in a
handy position throughout the race. This was confirmed by Trainer E. Hayes. App. Gay
further stated that after missing the start he was obliged to race at the rear of the field and elected
to ride for luck to obtain a run to the inside instead of going around the field. He added that he
was held up approaching the 600 metres and had to alter course on two(2) occasions in the
straight. Stewards noted the explanation of App. Gay.
A postrace veterinary examination of ARETINO revealed lameness to the near fore leg.
RACE 8: HINTERLAND TOYOTA NERANG & BURLEIGH CLASS 5 H'CAP - 1400M
MAPS jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground.
PULL MY STRING jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the home turn SON OF ROSSI (A. Erhart) shifted out to improve which resulted
in PULL MY STRING having to be steadied. A short distance later SON OF ROSSI shifted
back in hampering MAPS. A. Erhart was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
Approaching the 300 metres MAPS had to be steadied off the heels of the tiring SPACE RECRUIT.
PACHINKO which finished at the rear of the field was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon
who reported the mare to be suffering soreness to the near fore fetlock.
ALL WINNERS PLUS COVET THE CROWN WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
