RACE 1: GO GIRLS RACEDAY SATURDAY, 20 MARCH H’CAP – 1800M
Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding tactics adopted by C Whiteley on GOLDEN REQUEST, G Colless on START OF MINOLTA and apprentice D Ballard on WITH PRUDENCE. Mr R Kirwan, trainer of CHUCK’S HIT, also lodged a complaint in relation to interference suffered by his horse during the event. After taking evidence from A Morrison (CHUCK’S HIT), B Swanton (GODLEN SILVER), and trainers D Bell (GOLDEN REQUEST) and H Page (WITH PRUDENCE), stewards adjoined the inquiry until 9.30am on Wednesday, 24 March 2004.
Approaching the first turn near the 1400m, CHUCK’S HIT had to checked when tightened for room by GOLDEN REQUEST, and again had to be checked approaching the 1200m when again tightened for room by GOLDEN REQUEST.
RACE 2: SURFERS PARADISE MARRIOTT RESORT H’CAP – 900M
FLAUTIST and BOOM BOOM GOLD were slow to begin.
Approaching the 600m, MAIZCAY BELLE shifted out from behind the heels of CASH OR CERDIT, inconveniencing DANISH GIFT.
Leaving the 600m, FEEL LIKE A WOMEN had to be steadied off the heels of FLAUTIST which shifted in.
RACE 3: BOLACK PUBLICATIONS H’CAP – 1800M
FASHION WEEK reared as the gates opened and lost considerable ground. On return to scale, G Colless requested that FASHION WEEK be declared a non-runner due to the barrier attendant holding the horse’s head as the gates opened. G Colless’s request was denied and FASHION WEEK was declared a runner when it was established that FASHION WEEK had reared as the gates opened and that the barrier attendant did not hamper that horse’s chances of jumping with the field.
FASHION WEEK was inclined to hang in over the concluding stages.
RACE 4: EASTER SATURDAY RACEDAY – SATURDAY 10 APRIL H’CAP 1000M
KING LEO jumped inwards at the start and made heavy contact with RETIRE.
CONSITION’S WARRIOR jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with EXTERNAL FLAME.
Passing the 800m., MUKANIC had to be steadied off the heels of EXTERNAL FLAME, which shifted in.
Stewards conducted an inquiry into a confrontation between Mr C Harbrow, owner of CONISTON’S WARRIOR and jockey C Whiteley in the weighing room after the running of race 4. Mr Harbrow expressed dissatisfaction with C Whiteley’s ride, however after reviewing the video, stewards were satisfied that C Whiteley had not contravened any rules, and took no exception to his ride. Subsequently, C Whiteley pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct in the weighing room, and under AR83(a) was fined the sum of $500.00. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account C Whiteley had previously been charged under this rule in 2003.
A veterinary examination of EXTERNAL FLAME, which finished a distant last, was examined by the cub’s veterinary surgeon with no abnormalities reported.
RACE 5: BOOK NOW – CARLTON DRAUGHT RIME MINISTER’S CUP – 15TH MAY PLATE – 1300M
After being loaded into the barriers, TOP EGO kicked the back gates open, resulting in TOP EGO galloping back towards the enclosure. TOP EGO was subsequently withdrawn by order of the stewards at 2.42pm. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on TOP EGO were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
WOOMANOOKA SONG was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000m., MOOMBA shifted in when greenly, tightening the running of REMEMBER ROBIN and FAITH MOVES, which in turn made contact with INAZONE, which brushed the running rail.
Shortly after leaving the 1000m., INAZONE shifted out, resulting in FAITH MOVES having to be checked. DUAL SUCCESS, which was following, was also checked as a consequence.
Following this event, the track rating was upgraded to good.
RACE 6: KEN RUSSELL MEMORIAL GOLF CLASSIC – 14TH MAY H’CAP – 900M
BOLD SIGN, which broke through the barriers, was quickly restrained, examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
MARIKAL dislodged its off hind place in the enclosure. Trainer K Pattillo reported that MARIKAL had damaged its hoof in this incident. As the reminder of the field were at the barriers, stewards withdrew MARIKAL at 3.17pm when it would have been too difficult to have the filly replate. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on MARIKAL were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 37 cents in the dollar on the face value of win best, 23 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
MOCCABRAUN, which was restless in the barriers, was slow to begin.
Near the 600m., HELLO SPECIAL shifted in, tightening running of MCGINTY ROSE.
A veterinary examination of STAGE REVUE revealed the mare had sustained a laceration to the near fore heal.
RACE 7: BOLACK PUBLICAITONS H’CAP – 1400M
SUN VENVER SETS began awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with MCGIRK, taking MCGIRK in on to the hind quarters of GLADWILL. As a result, MCGIRK had to be checked.
After leaving the 1300m., PARAMETER had to be restrained to avoid the heels of RENOUF, which shifted in.
JUST PLAY was inclined to race ungenerously in the early stages.
GLADWILL was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight between RENOUF and PARAMETER.
Apprentice B Smith and trainer G Heinrich were questioned concerning the disappointing performance of RENOUF. Apprentice Smith stated that he had been instructed to lead, however RENOUF was inclined to pull a little hard early. He could offer no other excuse for the performance. Mrs Heinrich stated that RENOUF had worked well leading into today’ event and she had expected the horse to win. She added that in light of its performance today, RENOUF may have come to the end of its preparation. A swab sample was taken from RENOUF.
A veterinary examination of TEAKER’S BLUE STAR revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg.
A veterinary examination of FIGHT FOR FUTURE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 8: CULPANS ELECTRICAL H’CAP – 1400M
JUST NIX, which broke through the barriers, was quickly restrained, examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
NIGELLA was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000m., TIS HOPEFUL, after being briefly tightened by ROAD LOVER, shifted in and brushed the running rail and lost ground. JUST JINX, which was following, was hampered in this incident.
After leaving the 1000m, EWANJO shifted in, tightening the running of DELICATA.
Near the 800m., JUST JINX had to be checked of the heels of TIS HOPEFUL. TOO DARK, which was following, shifted out abruptly and had to be checked to avoid the heels of JUST JINX, hampering REAL LIVE WOMAN.
LOOK HERE TAY raced wide from the 800m.
SEINTA was obliged to race wide throughout in the straight.
TOO DARK was held up for clear running in the straight.
DELICATA lost its near fore plate in running. Following the race, the club’s veterinary surgeon reported that DELIATA was sore in the near fore leg.
ALL WINNERS AND RENOUF WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
