RACE 1: EZI-GRID TILE UNDERLAY H'CAP (THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN) - 1300M
At the start NOBLE ONE and DOUBLE SPECIAL were slow to move, losing ground.
CLANGIFY was slow to muster early speed.
Near the 900m ABERCORN was steadied from the heels of SYDNEY GEORGE.
AIN'TNOTHIN'BETTER and CLANGIFY were forced to race wide for the major part of the event.
ANNIES ATTITUDE raced greenly throughout.
Jockey D Browne, rider of BRIEFING, was questioned over his lack of vigour over the concluding stages of the event. Jockey Browne stated that the colt commenced to lay out from near the 200m when he changed stride. Jockey Browne was informed that the stewards would expect him to ride his mounts out to the finish of the race.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that INSTANT REWARD sustained a laceration to its off hind cannon.
RACE 2: ARTISTA COLUMNS H'CAP (ENTIRES AND GELDINGS MAIDEN) - 1200M
RIVER AVON was slow to move when the gates were released, losing ground.
Shortly after the start MICK'S TITLE and COLLO ROTONTO bumped.
COLLO ROTONTO raced ungenerously from the 1000m to the 800m and was steadied to avoid the heels of MOONLIGHT EXPRESS.
Approaching the 250m, MICK'S TITLE when attempting to secure a run between STORMY LANDING on its outside and MOONLIGHT EXPRESS on its inside, was forced to ease losing ground.
After being shown the film, Jockey D Green, rider of STORMY LANDING, was reprimanded and told to keep his mounts straighter in future.
Near the 450m RIVER AVON (App. S McLean) shifted in causing COLLO ROTONTO to check losing ground. Following an inquiry, App. S McLean was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in and informed that a repetition may lead to a suspension.
RACE 3:LINEA WEATHERBOARDS H'CAP (FILLES AND MARES MAIDEN) - 1200M
At the start LAKOTA BELLE was slow to move, losing ground.
DON'T TELL CLANG jumped out at the start bumping WESTERN SPARKLE.
Near the 700m CAREBO laid out forcing SEE YOU BABY to ease.
Between the 700m and the 600m WESTERN SPARKLE which was travelling keenly, checked to avoid the heels of DON'T TELL CLANG and shifted out inconveniencing MISS OOH and LOVE IN THE SUN.
SEE YOU BABY travelled wide for the major part of the race.
WESTERN SPARKLE was held up for a clear passage from the 450m until near the 100m when attempting a run on the inside of DON'T TELL CLANG brushing that filly.
Near the 250m MISS OOH became unbalanced losing ground.
Trainer of SNIPOVER, Mr D Caldwell, was fined the sum of $50 under LR 70(1) for failing to declare K Purdy as the rider of SNIPOVER by the prescribed time.
Shortly after the start CAREBO shifted out brushing IVORS LASS on to LOVE IN THE SUN causing that mare to lose ground. LOVE IN THE SUN was forced wide for the major part of the event. Mr H Henrich, owner of LOVE IN THE SUN, was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the mare. He said it was the intention to lead on LOVE IN THE SUN, however, due to the interference at the start, Jockey P Cuddihy was unable to obtain a forward position. Mr Heinrich produced evidence of stable support for LOVE IN THE SUN. He advised the stewards that should anything amiss show up with the mare in the next few days he would inform Queensland Racing. The club's veterinary surgeon could find nothing amiss with LOVE IN THE SUN.
RACE 4:HARDIGLAZE TILE SHEETS H'CAP (CLASS 1) - 900M
At the start ZARTACUS jumped out and CHEETAH COUNTY shifted in tightening DANCE CAFE and ST DAN, causing both horses to lose ground.
Approaching the home turn CENQUALO laid out and steadied from the heels of SNIPS. CENQUALO was then held up for a clear passage until approaching the 200m when taken wider on the track.
RACE 5: CMX SYSTEM H'CAP (CLASS 3) - 1800M
At the 900m and 450m BETTER LIGHT struck the running rail.
Jockey M Cant pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b) for failing to ride PARABOLA out to the finish of the event. Owing to his good record, Jockey Cant was fined the sum of $200.
Jockey G Baker and Trainer J Morrisey were questioned over the disappointing performance of PRESS. Jockey Baker said that he had been instructed to let PRESS settle and have the horse towards the tail of the field. This was confirmed by Trainer J Morrisey. Jockey Baker said he asked the gelding for an effort near the 600m when he started to ride PRESS along but was disappointed with its performance in the straight and felt that the horse may be looking for a longer journey. Trainer Morrisey said that he was surprised that PRESS had tailed off so far and felt that the outside barrier had contributed to the horse getting back. He had no plans for the horse's future. He would be looking for a similar type race and may instruct the rider to have PRESS closer at its next start. If so, he would inform the stewards. Mr Morrisey produced evidence of stable support for PRESS. Their explanations were noted. A veterinary inspection of PRESS failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 6: HARDIGROOVE LINING H'CAP (CLASS 5) - 1400M
COMMON KNOWLEDGE was examined prior to the start at the barriers by the club's veterinary surgeon when the gelding had loosened a tooth. COMMON KNOWLEDGE was passed fit to race.
Jockey D Griffin rider of DANEFULL placed 4th, lodged an objection against the dead-heater for 2nd, COMMON KNOWLEDGE (App. L Fyfe) alleging interference approaching the winning post. It was established during the hearing that COMMON KNOWLEDGE had shifted in shortly before the winning post but in view of the margin between the two runners the objection was dismissed. App. Fyfe was advised to keep his mounts straighter in future.
GRANDE ARROW was slow to move when the gates were released losing ground.
RAGING RULA was slow to muster early speed.
TARANA AVENUE raced wide from the 800m until after making the home turn.
Near the 700m RAGING RULA was steadied from the heels of DANEFULL.
Approaching the winning post SUNFAIR eased when tightened for room between GONZO and HUDSON JACK.
RACE 7: QRSE PRIMELINE WEATHERBOARDS H'CAP (CLASS 1) - 1400M
BLOODWOOD was slow to move when the gates were released.
At the start BLUSHING DANE knuckled losing some ground and then shortly afterwards was buffeted between TALENTED DANCER and LOUGHNAN losing further ground. BLUSHING DANE sprung its off fore plate during the running of the race. The gelding was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon who found no abnormality.
Near the 900m SET TO FIRE steadied to avoid the heels of ASTRA CITI which shifted in slightly.
KUTUZOV raced wide for the major part of the event covering extra ground.
From very wide barriers, BLOODWOOD and DRAVEEN were forced to cover extra ground.
On pulling up, Jockey K Pope dismounted from TALENTED DANCER. Jockey Pope reported that he had a cramp in his left leg.
RACE 8: COME TO BALLINA CUP - 9 SEPTEMBER H'CAP (CLASS 2) - 1200M
When App. A Gain was ill and unable to ride BE WARNED, the mare was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 10.31 am.
On jumping away FRISCO'S LASS and ENTEI bumped.
Shortly after the start DANZIG'S STRIKE eased to avoid the heels of UTURN.
BOTTLE pulled hard in the middle stages of the event.
SUPERSTAR ARIES and UTURN raced wide in the middle stages of the race.
MISS PROUD covered extra ground rounding the home turn.
EIGHT WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
