I EXPLORE was slow to jump.

Shortly after jumping away ARETINO was inclined to lay in resulting in BRANDY BLOOMER being crowded.

Leaving the 700 metres ARETINO continued to lay in and made contact with the hind quarters of STAR OF THE GALAXY.

Stewards questioned App. L. Fyfe the rider of BIRDLADY with regards to his riding tactics particularly, where he restrained his mount near the 600 metres. App. Fyfe explained that whilst the horse did not have the necessary pace to lead, he elected to endeavour to take a trail after being caught four (4) wide and near the 600 metres he restrained his mount as he felt BRANDY BLOOMER, which was racing to his inside would move closer to the rails. App. Fyfe added that when he eased his mount at that point it seemed to relax and this resulted in him being placed further back than anticipated. Stewards advised App. Fyfe that he had shown poor judgement particularly to restrain his mount near the 600 metres, bearing in mind it was a 900 metre race.

Near the finishing line BRANDY BLOOMER was inclined to lay in behind the heels of ARETINO.

Kennedy at a disadvantage in riding his mount out to the finish.
