Race 1: GCTC Membership - Renew Now Maiden H’cap - 1800m
1st - Our Oasis 2nd - Irish Flame 3rd - Lady Manjaro 4th - Ginny Sweep
Stewards accepted the reason for N. Day being unable to fulfil his engagement on IRISH FLAME. M. Bennett was substituted as the rider of that gelding.
KAAPTIVE SPIRIT, which was extremely fractious and reared up in the barriers, was withdrawn by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 11.39 a.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on KAAPTIVE SPIRIT were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer J. Grech was advised that KAAPTIVE SPIRIT would be required to perform 2 barrier tests to the satisfaction of the stewards, following which the gelding would be required to pass an official barrier trial.
COMMANDED (G. Farrer) and SWEET VIBES (W. Wheatley) came together at the start. TRAVEMONDE (M. Palmer) was slow to begin.
OUR OASIS (J Stanley) hung out 4 wide from nearing the first turn until entering the straight when the filly went to the lead.
C. Rogers reported that the saddle on GINNY SWEEP slipped approaching the 1200m. and in doing so became extremely awkward to the inside of LEGS ARE BEST (G. Palmer). G. Palmer then moved LEGS AER BEST wider on the track approaching the l000m. realising that C. Rogers was in considerable difficulty. At this stage GINNY SWEEP began to race more truly and C. Rogers shifted the gelding wider on the track and continued to ride the horse out to the line.
Race 2: 92.5 Gold FM 3yo & Up Maiden Plate - 1200m
1st - San Vitale 2nd - Fideism 3rd - Geographical 4th - Ross Henry
Stewards queried trainer R. Simonetta regarding the riding declaration of apprentice apprentice M. Spriggs as the rider of SIR CONNISTON when M. Spriggs was going to be unable to claim any portion of the 57.5 kilogram riding weight. Mr Simonetta acknowledged that he engaged M. Spriggs for the emergency SIR CONNISTON knowing full well that he would be unable to claim any allowance. Stewards permitted M. Spriggs to fulfil this engagement.
MICK’S TITLE (M. Palmer) was inconvenienced and YELTA (A. Kennedy) severely checked approaching the 1000m. when racing between SHAREEF (K. Banks), which hung in, and SIR CONNTSTON (M. Spriggs), which shifted out after racing inside the line of the running rail prior to joining the course proper..
SIR CONNTSTON struck the running rail on 3 occasions between the 800m. and home turn.
Race 3: Southport Workers Club 3yo Maiden H’cap - l000m
1st - Scent Hunter 2nd — Temple Of 3rd — Shani’s Crown 4th - Harry’s Choice
OUR ARMISTICE (N. Day) was slow to begin.
HALVATION (N. Thomas) jumped awkwardly.
HARRY’S CHOICE (D. Coleman) jumped with its head in the air and raced greenly for some distance.
NATURAL GLAMOUR (A. Russo) was slowly away after jumping with its head in the air, then raced ungenerously for the first 200m.. Approaching the 600m., NATURAL GLAMOUR then attempted a run to the inside of REACTIVE DANCER (N. Day) and had to be checked.
Approaching the home turn, TEMPLE OF ISIS (M. Palmer) and SHANT’S CROWN (K. Pope) came together and brushed.
When questioned regarding the riding tactics/performance adopted on NATURAL GLAMOUR, A. Russo stated that the filly was extremely sensitive in the mouth and refused to settle in the early stages, racing somewhat greenly. A post race veterinaiy examination of NATURAL GLAMOUR found that the filly had a parrot mouth and had sustained lacerations to the inside of its mouth.
Race 4: Mobile Money Class 1 H’cap - l000m
1st - Ebbtide 2nd - Summons 3rd - Salty Bay 4th - Mister Noon
The following trainers were fined $50 00 for presenting their runners late to the enclosure prior to the running of this
Brian Guy (Summons), J Wallace (Chamber Of Secrets), B. Bellamy (Always Rockin), B. Armstrong (King’s Drama), G.Heinrich (Salty Bay), B. Laming (Calling All Angels), K. Schweida (Reactive Dancer), and D Wise (Mister Noon).
Due to a misunderstanding W. Wheatley was dually engaged for ALWAYS ROCKJN and EBBTIDE. N. Seymour was substituted as the rider of EBBT1DE.
MISTER NOON (A. Kennedy) and KING’S DRAMA (D. Coleman) came together at the start. EBBTIDE (N. Seymour) was slowly away.
Shortly after the start, SUMMONS (G. Michaels) was hampered when tightened for room by DANGEROUS KNIGHT (K. Pope), which hung in. SUMMONS then commenced to hang out from the .900m taking DANGEROUS KNIGHT wider on the track, inconveniencing ALWAYS ROCKIN (W. Wheatley).
Rounding the 800m. turn, KING’S DRAMA (D. Coleman) had to be checked off the heels of CHAMBER OF SECRETS (M. Palmer), which was inconvenienced by REACTIVE DANCER (N. Day), which shifted in after being tightened by SUMMONS (G. Michaels), which got its head up and began to race erratically. G. Michaels, the rider of SUMMONS, was reprimanded and advised to make more effort to prevent interference in similar circumstances in future.
The club’s veterinary surgeon advised that KING’S DRAMA returned to the enclosure bleeding from both nostrils. Trainer B. Armstrong was advised that KING’S DRAMA would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
A post-race veterinary examination of EBBTIDE revealed the mare had sustained a small laceration to the near side stifle.
Race 5: The Grand Hotel Class 1 H’cap (Div 2) - l000m
1st - Fleeting Echo 2nd - Alo Sac 3rd - Off The List 4th - Whatyoucloin
I’LL WAIT (M. Smith-Lester) was slow to begin and raced ungenerously throughout.
LUKE’S TURN (A.Russo) began to overrace and had to be eased off the heels of FLEETING ECHO (M. Palmer) approaching the 600m..
Near the 600m WHATYOUDOIN (N. Day) rolled in, making contact with LUKE’S TURN.

DRAVEEN (G. Farrer) was held up for clear running from the 400m. to the winning post.
Race 6: Gold Coast Superbowl Class 3 H’cap - 1800m
1st - Tapca 2nd - British Storm 3rd - Wheel The Lead 4th - Payakarun
WHEEL THE LEAD (K. Pope) was slow to begin.
TAPCA (N. Seymour) commenced to lay out rounding the first turn at the 130Dm..
Approaching the 100Dm., the saddle on LORD ADMIRAL (C. Rogers) shifted, placing C. Rogers in considerable difficulty for the remainder of the race, and was unable to ride the gelding out to the finish line.
Race 7: Mermaid Beach Tavern Class 2 H’cap - 1200m
1st - Lust In Space 2nd - Boom Shaker 3rd - Millimac 4th - Watson Road
D. Green was dislodged from RAPID REASON behind the barriers when the gelding whipped around suddenly. D. Green took no harm from the fall and was able to fulfil the engagement.
COSMOLOGY (N. Thomas) and RAPID REASON (D. Green) were slow to begin.
MICKELSON (B. Hull) jumped awkwardly and then was inconvenienced when AWESOME FLASH (L. Deguara) jumped inwards, making contact with MICKELSON.
BOOM SHAKER (N. Day) also began awkwardly.
Approaching the 600m GOLD VICTORY (A. Russo) and MIICKELSON raced in restricted room to the inside of AWESOME FLASH, which hung in.
In the early stages, COSMOLOGY (N. Thomas) commenced to hang out from the 600m. to the home turn.
LUST IN SPACE (M. Palmer) commenced to overrace in the middle stages and continued to do so until making the home turn.
GOLD VICTORY (A. Russo) raced tight to the inside of AWESOME FLASH approaching the 500m..
GOLD VICTORY was held up from the 250m. and was unable to gain clear running at any stage in the run to the finish line.
Race 8: 90.9 Sea FM Open H’cap - 1800m
1st - Counter Agent 2nd - Double EL Aitch 3rd - Dead Cat Bounce 4th - Cut A Caper
Prior to the event, trainer S. Jones advised stewards that RUSSELL ON would be ridden off the pace today if possible in an effort to have the gelding fmish the race right off. An announcement to this effect was made over the on-course public address system.
JUST POLITE (N. Thomas) was caught wide in the early stages.
MAIZCAY MAGIC (G. Farrer) raced wide from the 1200m..
Approaching the 1400m., DEAD CAT BOUNCE (K. Cunningham) rolled in, tightening MIDNIGHT AVENUE (N. Day) for racing room.
Nearing the 800m., CUT A CAPER (M. Palmer) raced awkwardly in restricted room for a short distance.
RUSSELL ON (W. Wheatley) pulled hard in the early and middle stages, resulting in the gelding failing to run on over the concluding stages.
Stewards interviewed both the trainer S. Jones and jockey W. Wheatley with regards to the failure of the riding tactics adopted on RUSSELL ON. Stewards will monitor the situation in future.
Race 9: Culpans Electrical Class 1 H’cap - 140Dm
1st - Calactical 2nd - Mikdar 3rd - Denise’s Diamond 4th - Wave Hunter
Trainer B. Wakefield was fmed $100 00 for failing to declare a rider for GUNMAN by the prescribed time.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by G. Palmer, rider of the 2nd placegetter, MIKDAR, against GALACTICAL (A. Russo) being declare the winner, alleging interference over the final 50m.. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the video stewards found that G. Palmer never had full purchase on the run at the 50m. mark where he alleged interference had taken place, and he elected to shift to the outside before any movement from GALACTICAL had occurred. In dismissing the protest, stewards found that the interference claimed by G. Palmer was insufficient to alter the placings.

PRIVATE SANTIAGO (W. Wheatley), THREE DONS (N. Day), ELLAY CONFIDENTIAL (C. Thomson) and TEEN A TE (M. Cant) were tightened for room at the start between ROYAL FLAIR (C. Rogers) and GUINIVLAN (N. Seymore), both of which shifted ground.
Approaching the 800m., FORGOT (A. Kennedy) was taken wider on the track by GUNMAN (N. Seymore), which was obliged to ease from the heels of TEEN A TE (M. Cant).
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into interference suffered by PRIVATE SANTIAGO (W. Wheatley) and THREE COINS (N.Day) on the home turn and again at the 200m After taking evidence from C. Rogers (ROYAL FLAIR), C.Thomson (ELLAY CONFIDENTIAL), N. Day (THREE COINS) and W. Wheatley (PRIVATESANTIAGO), the inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.
Over the final 50m., GALACTICAL (A. Russo) shifted in approaching the winning post.
A post-race veterinary examination of TEEN A TE revealed the filly to have sustained a laceration to the outside of the near hind pastern.
