Race 1: Smith's Snackvend (Maiden) H'cap - 1000m
1st - Shy Hunter 2nd - Pure Dancer 3rd - Special Anton 4th - Miss Stravinsky

At the start ARTISTIC NYMPH and SPECIAL ANTON bumped.

Near the 200m SPECIAL ANTON steadied from the heels of SHY HUNTER.

Race 2: Coffee Roaster (Class 5) H'cap - 900m
1st - Sensational Time 2nd - Marikal 3rd - Double Lineage 4th - Breakfast Talk

MARIKAL was a little slow to move when the gates were released.

BREAKFAST TALK jumped awkwardly at the start losing ground and shortly afterwards shifted out bumping MARIKAL on to RUSSIAN KNIGHT.

Near the 450m BREAKFAST TALK steadied from the heels of SENSATIONAL TIME.

Race 3: Cater Care Australia (3yo & upwards Maiden) - 1400m
1st - Mick's Title 2nd - Harry's Choice 3rd - Maltese Girl 4th - Hesweepsaway

At the start LATIN IDOL and MICK'S TITLE were slow to move, losing ground.

IN HOI AN jumped outwards at the start.

Shortly after the start GENERAL'S BROTHER steadied from the heels of LACQUEST.

Shortly after the start FINE WEATHER blundered unbalancing A Best.

Near the 1200 SECRET SILVER shifted in forcing HESWEEPSAWAY in which brushed MOSSMAN'S MELODY.

Approaching the 800m FINE WEATHER hung out forcing LATIN IDOL wider on the track. FINE WEATHER continued to hang out until after entering the straight.

Near the 100m HESWEEPSAWAY steadied from the heels of MICK'S TITLE.

A post race examination of GENERAL'S BROTHER failed to reveal any abnormality.

Race 4: Griffith University Gold Coast Student Guild (3yo Maiden) H'cap - 1200m
1st - Call Girl 2nd - Icedane 3rd - Duhaaba 4th - Retrenched

PERSIAN LIGHT jumped awkwardly at the start and raced greenly in the early stages and near the 1100m steadied from the heels of RETRENCHED.

PRIZE 'N' GOLD hung out from the 900m until after making the home turn.

Near the 600mWHOWOOD steadied from the heels of PERSIAN LIGHT.

The saddle slipped back on RETRENCHED during the running of the event.

Race 5: Bill Stear's 80th Birthday Cup (F & M Class 1) H'cap - 1200m
1st - Melody Bay 2nd - Shani's Crown 3rd - Carpentaria 4th - Temple of Isis

Jockey A Best was fined the sum of $100 for accepting rides on RARE PROSPECT and ADD IT UP. Stewards permitted G Baker to replace A Best as the rider of ADD IT UP.

Jockey G Farrer's explanation for being declared as the rider for RECHARIA'S GIRL and FOR CERTAIN was accepted. Stewards permitted B Swanton to replace G Farrer as the rider of RECHARIA'S GIRL.

RAPT IN BLUE jumped awkwardly when the gates were released losing ground and shortly after the start and again near the 1000m steadied from the heels of CARPENTARIA.

Approaching the 1000m RARE PROSPECT steadied from the heels of ZARUBY.

Near the 700m LESMARTRE and ZARUBY brushed the rail.

ADD IT UP was unable to secure a clear passage from the 600m until approaching the 200m.

Near the 400m SHANI'S CROWN steadied from the heels of TEMPLE OF ISIS.

Near the 300m LESMARTRE (App. M Yoshinaga) shifted out bumping DANCAN MELODY out on to TEMPLE OF ISIS which in turn inconvenienced RECHARIA'S GIRL. CARPENTARIA (N Day) which was attempting to secure a run on the outisde of RECHARIA'S GIRL shifted out causing FOR CERTAIN to check and in doing so bumped RAPT IN BLU. Jockey M Yoshinaga was informed to keep his mounts straighter in future. Jockey N Day was informed to exercise greater care when attempting to obtain a run.

Stewards enquired into the reason RAPT IN BLU clipped the heels of CARPENTARIA near the 50m. It was established that TEMPLE OF ISIS shifted out as CARPENTARIA was attempting to secure a run between TEMPLE OF ISIS and RAPT IN BLU. CARPENTARIA continued to move outwards after obtaining that run and at the same time RAPT IN BLU lay in after being bumped by CARPENTARIA and clipped the heels of CARPENTARIA. Jockey N Day the rider of CARPENTARIA was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out and advised that in similar circusmtances he is to exercise greater care.

Race 6: Griffith University Gold Coast (Class 2) H'cap - 1400m
1st - Bertha 2nd - Jackson Hill 3rd - Possum 4th - La Charriere

As Jockey J P Stanley was stood down by the Club's Doctor, Stewards permitted D Green to be replaced as the rider of CAPILANO ROAD in this event and on MIGHTY SURVIVOR in Race 8.

SMALL PLANET was slow to move when the gates were released losing ground.

Near the 800m SKYROLLER which was pulling hard steadied from the heels of LA CHARRIERE.

Near the 650m CAPILANO ROAD and VULCAN EXPRESS bumped.

From the 400m until near the 200m JACKSON HILL was held up for a clear passage and then shifted out brushing CAPILANO ROAD.

App. D Peisley the rider of LA CHARRIERE dropped his whip near the 300m.

Race 7: Coca-Cola Amatil (Class 3) H'cap - 2200m
1st - Gold Victory 2nd - Moon Echo 3rd - Full Retail 4th - Sheoaks

IRISH FLAME baulked when the gates released, losing ground and near the 250m shifted in and then rolled outwards inconveniencing ALL HALO.

Near the 1400m GRAND COLOURS ran up on to the heels of FULL RETAIL and checked shifting outwards.

GRAND COLOURS and IRISH FLAME raced wide from the 1400m until after making the home turn.

MAJESTIC RADIANCE pulled hard for the major part of the event.

LANA BELLE was momentarily held up for a clear passage rounding the home turn.

Race 8: Heaneys Performers In Print (C & G Class 1) H'cap - 1200m
1st - Coreinvestor 2nd - Sir Karoo 3rd - Crystal Joe 4th - Rules for Life

OUR FREELANCE jumped out at the start bumping CRYSTAL JOE on to ROARING HOME, both horses losing ground.

Near the 900m OUR FREELANCE shifted in brushing CRYSTAL JOE which over-reacted and ducked in sharply bumping SIR KAROO which bumped the fence. YOU'LL DO ME which was racing on the inside checked, losing ground. Following an inquiry no blame could be attributed to any particular rider.

SIR KAROO laid in in the straight placing App. R Plumb at a disadvantage in riding his mount out to the winning post.

An inquiry was opened and adjourned into the reason RULES FOR LIFE checked near the 350m avoiding the heels of STEEL CAT. Evidence was taken from M Morris (BEND A RULE), R Plumb (SIR KAROO), G Baker (RULES FOR LIFE) and D Peisley (STEEL CAT).

Approaching the winning post ANOTHER GLANCE steadied off the heels of RULES FOR LIFE which shifted in.

The club's veterinary surgeon reported that MICKEY MOOSE had struck its near hidn pastern during the race and had pulled up distressed. Trainer A Bailey was informed that a veterinary clearance of fitness must be presented before MICKEY MOOSE starts again.
