SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

Stewards concluded an inquiry into an incident on Saturday 29 July 2006 at the Gold Coast Turf Club which took place on return to scale and in the confines of the Jockeys room involving Jockeys A Best and G McCarthy. After taking evidence from Jockey A Best, Jockey G McCarthy, the Clerk of the Course, Ms Jacqui Morgan and Jockey M Rice, Jockey G McCarthy pleaded guilty to a charge under AR83(a) for misconduct in that following the running of Race 4 he did enter into a verbal altercation with Jockey A Best and in the confines of the Jockeys room did strike Jockey Best in the face. Jockey G McCarthy was fined $1,000.

Jockey A Best was found guilty of a charge under AR83(a) for misconduct in that following the running of Race 4 at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Saturday 29 July 2006 he did verbally abuse Jockey G McCarthy on return to scale and again in the confines of the Jockeys’ room further provoked Jockey McCarthy. Jockey A Best was fined $500. Jockey Best was further advised that the suspended fine of $500 for misconduct incurred at Ipswich on 27/05/2006 would now come into effect.

As P Hammersley was indisposed through injury stewards permitted the following rider replacements:

Race 1: Come to Ballina Cup 14 September (Maiden) H’cap – 1000m.
1st - Anduril 2nd – Shovent 3rd - Absent Annie 4th – Presley’s Girl

ABSENT ANNIE (M Rice) and MY BOY (K Pope) were slow to begin.

RAINEE’S GIRL was tightened for room shortly after the start between ALBERT (M Bennett) which shifted in and JUST KELLY (App. H Hamada) which was taken out slightly by PRESLEY’S GIRL (N Day).

MY BOY raced ungenerously in the early stages.

Near the 600m PRESLEY’S GIRL raced ungenerously for a short distance.

SPECIAL ASSASSIN (App. J Murphy) and MY BOY raced wide throughout the event.

A post race veterinary examination of BLAZE OF RORY (C Whiteley) revealed the gelding to have sustained minor lacerations to the off hock. A swab sample was taken from BLAZE OF RORY.

Race 2: Sta Travel (Maiden) H’cap – 1000m.
1st – Berry Park 2nd – Alternate 3rd – Gilding the Lily 4th – Bold Prediction

SNAKE HILL (M Bennett) and GILDING THE LILY (P Spry) were slow to begin.

BERRY PARK (A Robinson) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in making contact with ALTERNATE (M Rice). A short distance later BERRY PARK had to be steadied when tightened for room by ST ASPEN (D Green) which was taken in by MISCROSS (App. S Nakamura).

MISCROSS raced wide throughout.

BERRY PARK laid in under pressure in the straight.

GILDING THE LILY was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Near the 200m SUMA SUMA (M Manktelow), when tiring, had to be steadied when tightened for room between BERRY PARK and MISCROSS which shifted in.

Race 3: Coffee Bug (3yo Maiden) Plate – 1200m.
1st – Plymouth Rock 2nd – Femmebot 3rd – Iron Fist 4th – Smiley

TAKE TWO (N Day) jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start KNIGHT AT ARMS (D Hayse) shifted out and made contact with IRON FIST (A Robinson).

COOL LOVER (M Rice) and PLYMOUTH ROCK (C Whiteley) raced wide throughout.

Near the 450m COOL LOVER had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between PLYMOUTH ROCK and SMILEY (R Martin) which shifted out to obtain clear running.

Race 4: Cater Care Australia (Fillies and Mares Class 1) H’cap – 1200m.
1st – Plachutta 2nd – Commandsa Blue 3rd – La Rambla 4th – Academy Pride

MISS HAWKINS (M Rice) blundered on jumping away.

LA RAMBLA (A Erhart) jumped away awkwardly.

ACADEMY PRIDE (N Day) was tightened for room at the start between LUCKY LUCY (R Martin) and CATASTRA GIRL (C Eaton) both of which shifted ground.

Shortly after the start MI CHIAMO (A Robinson) shifted out and made contact with HUNGRY EYES (K Pope). A short distance later HUNGRY EYES momentarily attempted to buck. Stable representative Mr P Nolan was advised that a warning would be placed on HUNGRY EYES in relation to her racing manners.

Leaving the 1000m ACADEMY PRIDE commenced to race ungenerously and near the 900m was momentarily tightened for room by LUCKY LUCY. In this incident ACADEMY PRIDE over-reacted when steadied and lost ground.

MI CHIAMO raced fiercely in the middle stages of the event.

Leaving the 500m KRYSTALATE (D Hayse) and HUNGRY EYES made contact on several occasions.

Race 5: Griffith University Gold Coast Student Guilt (Maiden) H’cap – 1400m.
1st - Takara 2nd – Silver Halo 3rd – Astral Travel 4th – The Greek God

TREE TOPS which was fractious in the barriers was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.17 pm when it was found that the mare had sustained lacerations to the pole and right ear. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on TREE TOPS were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 16 cents in the dollar for a win and 14 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer R McCall was advised that TREE TOPS would be required to obtain a Barrier Certificate before being permitted to race again.

BUCKALEENIE (G McCarthy) stood flat footed as the gates opened and lost considerable ground.

ASTRAL TRAVEL (D Green) shifted in abruptly shortly after the start resulting in THE GREEK GOD (C Whiteley), DAINTREE CROSSING (A Best) and IZA COMIN (M Traecey) all being hampered.

Jockey N Day the rider of TWO AND A KICK was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 1000m when not sufficiently clear of IZA COMIN which had to be steadied.

IZA COMIN and TWO AND A KICK over-raced in the early stages.

Near the 800m BUCKALEENIE which had commenced to over-race improved forward and made contact with the hind quarters of ZULU STAR (A Erhart). As a result ZULU STAR became unbalanced and shifted in making heavy contact with MCQUILTY (D Hayse) which had to be checked when tightened on to the running rail. As a result of contacting the hind quarters of ZULU STAR, BUCKALEENIE shifted out taking TAKARA (A Robinson) outwards across the heels of SILVER HALO (App. M Palmer) and as a result took TWO AND A KICK (N Day) wider on the track. TWO AND A KICK then raced wide for the remainder of the event.

SILVER HALO (App. M Palmer) raced wide throughout the event.

Race 6: Griffith University Gold Coast (Class 4) H’cap – 1300m.
1st – Miss Information 2nd – Perdee 3rd - Demolir 4th – Pop Will

LITTLE DARLING (K Pope) was slow to begin.

RIGHT SPICE (N Day) jumped out at the start and made contact with PURPOSE BUILT (P Spry).

ROYAL OPERA (App. M Palmer) commenced to over-race leaving the 800m and did so for some distance.

Race 7: Totalvend (Class 3) H’cap – 1000m.
1st – Private Frisco 2nd – Momentously 3rd – Miss Mataya 4th – La Charriere

Shortly after the start PRIVATE FRISCO (P Spry) had to be steadied when tightened for room between LOVE BOMB (S Shield) and LA CHARRIERE (G Auckram) which shifted out. At the same stage ACTION TIME (G McCarthy) had to be steadied when tightened for room by SCISSILE (B Swanton) which was taken in by MOMENTOUSLY (A Erhart).

Leaving the 800m DIVINE ETOILE (A Robinson) raced in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of SCISSILE which was inclined to lay in.

Approaching the 600m ACTION TIME improved up on to the heels of DIVINE ETOILE and when being steadied shifted out making contact with POLAR HUT (R Martin) which in turn shifted out making contact with LA CHARRIERE.

LOVE BOMB (S Shield) raced wide throughout the event.

Leaving the 300m PUSHPIG (N Day) was held up for clear running for a short distance.

Race 8: Coca-Cola Amatil (Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1) H’cap – 1200m.
1st – Friendly Embrace 2nd- Impetus 3rd – National Forest 4th - Lombardy

IMPETUS (D Griffin) blundered on jumping away.

Rounding the first turn IMPETUS got its head in the air and raced ungenerously. At the same stage HIDDEN STASH (D Hayse) commenced to race fiercely and near the 800m shifted out making contact with HUNTER DANE (A Best).

BEAT THE JUDGE (M Bennett) and SONNASAN (K Pope) raced wide throughout.

FRIENDLY EMBRACE (App. D Peisley) was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.

N Day the rider of NATIONAL FOREST was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out leaving the 300m taking ELYSEE STRIKE (G McCarthy) outwards resulting in HUNTER DANE (A Best) having to be steadied to avoid ELYSEE STRIKE’s heels.

Jockey D Craven was questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of THESIS. Jockey Craven stated that the gelding travelled well in the early stages reaching the lead near the 800m and had secured a nice run however raced under pressure from leaving the 600m and failed to respond to his riding thereafter. Jockey Craven further stated that in his opinion the horse performed disappointingly today. A post race veterinary examination of THESIS failed to reveal any abnormality and the gelding was sent to be swabbed.

Race 9: GCTC Membership Join/Renew Now (Class 2) H’cap – 1400m.
1st – Crystal Prince 2nd – Pimpala Storm 3rd – Belles Opinion 4th – Tarlee Dancer

DEFEND THE HILL (App. S Bogenhuber) blundered shortly after the start and shifted in making contact with PRE COMMITMENT (App. M Palmer).

TARLEE DANCER jumped in at the start and made contact with OZJURIA (N Day).

CRYSTAL PRINCE (C Whiteley) raced wide in the early stages.

BELLES OPINION (A Erhart) and TARLEE DANCER (P Spry) raced wide throughout the event.

Shortly after straightening BANG CLANG ALANG (D Green) shifted out and made contact with CAPTAIN BLIGH (M Bennett).

Jockey Y Fujimoto (PIMPALA STORM) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 400m when not clear of FALLGUY (K Pope) resulting in FALLGUY having to be checked. Jockey Fujimoto’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 09/08/2006 and to expire midnight 20/08/2006.

Leaving the 200m DEPARTURE (A Robinson) shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider, A Robinson. Trainer G Heinrich will be advised that a warning will be placed on DEPARTURE in relation to its racing manners.

Shortly after leaving the 200m CAPTAIN BLIGH was disappointed for a run between DASHING DANE (App. D Peisley) and FOX IN SOX (A Best) which shifted out. In this incident CAPTAIN BLIGH was struck over the head with the whip of A Best on several occasions.





ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED along with BLAZE OF RORY and THESIS.
