SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

Stewards questioned trainer T. Bailey regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of GATAKERS BAY in Race 7 at the QTC meeting on Friday 22 February 2008. T. Bailey was of the opinion that the slow early tempo of the race had not suited GATAKERS BAY. Stewards further questioned T. Bailey regarding the horse leaving the course prior to the 30 minute interval as required under the rules. After considering his explanation stewards took no further action other than to remind T. Bailey of his obligations.

Race 1: Magic Millions Ladies Day 29 March QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1000m.
1st – Take A Stand 2nd – Alexandre 3rd – Soviet Sundae 4th – Blue Jupiter

Jockey M. Bennett was fined the sum of $100.00 under the provisions of AR120(b) for being overweight. Stewards permitted R. Wiggins to be substituted as the rider of KAPALI.

TAKE A STAND (W. Pearson) reared as the gates opened resulting in the horse losing valuable ground.

SERA MIST (M. Morris) and COTTON CANDY (G. Baker) came together and bumped on jumping away.

Leaving the 800m BLUE JUPITER (N. Day) had to be steadied when racing on the inside of IN NANGANA (App O. Turpin) which shifted in.

Approaching the 200m BLUE JUPITER was tightened for room when racing on the inside of COTTON CANDY. G Baker rider of COTTON CANDY was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear. Shortly after BLUE JUPITER shifted out across the heels of KAPALI (R. Wiggins) and in doing to inconvenienced IN NANGANA

M. Mair the trainer of SERA MIST reported that the horse pulled up sore in the near fore leg. A post race veterinary examination of SERA MIST revealed the filly to have ruptured it’s near fore flexor tendon . Trainer M. Mair was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before the filly races again.


Race 2: Magic Millions March 2008 QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1000m.
1st – Slugsbrothernugget 2nd – Kryptelon 3rd – Volpine 4th - Shotime

Jockey P. Holmes was fined the sum of $200.00 for failing to fulfil his engagement on SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET. Stewards subsequently permitted W. Pearson to be substituted as the rider of SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET.

MIZ WINFREY (App K. Yeung) which reared over in the barrier stalls was withdrawn by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice at 12.21 p.m. As a result of this incident BALDY MOUNT (N. Day) was also declared a late withdrawal acting on veterinary advice at 12.21 p.m. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on MIZ WINFREY and BALDY MOUNT were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 25 cents in the dollar for a win and 23 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket. K. Smith the trainer of MIZ WINFREY was advised that the horse must barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.

SHOTIME (D. Griffin) and VOLPINE (R. Wiggins) came together and bumped on jumping away.

ONE FOR THE GIRLS (T. Chambers) raced wide for the majority of the event.

SHOTIME raced greenly for the majority of the event and approaching the 500m shifted in and bumped the hind quarters of VOLPINE and became unbalanced and as a result shifted out and bumped HIS BOY ELROY.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HIS BOY ELROY jockey K. Purdy stated she was of the opinion that the horse may have been affected by the extreme heat conditions today. Trainer J. Wallace concurred with K. Purdy’s evidence and he was also of the opinion that the horse was affected by the heat. A post race veterinary examination of HIS BOY ELROY failed to reveal any abnormality.


Race 3: Sponsorship Opportunities Prime Minister’s Cup 2008 3YO & Up Maiden – 1400m.
1st – Ivorsong 2nd – Mrs Dittmier 3rd – Meter Maid 4th - Newsroom

BENCH PLAYER (D. Barron) was withdrawn by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice after the horse reared and became cast in the barrier stall. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on BENCH PLAYER were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 3 cents in the dollar for a win and 4 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer T. Gillespie was advised that BENCH PLAYER must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.

COUNT MONTGOMERY (T. Pannell) began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start INNOCENZIO (D. Green) and NEENASIMONE (W. Pearson) came together and bumped on 2 occasions.

Leaving the 1000m HONOUR REIGN (N. Thomas) improved up onto the heels of MRS DITTMIER (D. Griffin) and had to be steadied and as a consequence NEENASIMONE had to be steadied.

IVORSONG (N. Day) was inclined to overrace in the early stages of the event.

LISTERINA (P. Holmes) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn .

AZZMY WITNESS (App L. Dittman) and INNOCENZIO came together and bumped on a number of occasions rounding the home turn.


Race 4: Stan Harvey Memorial Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m.
1st – Agnes Dream 2nd – Perilous Princess 3rd – Wind Gusts 4th – Full Tide

M. Mair the trainer of MASSARI was fined the sum of $200.00 under the provisions of AR114 for failing to scratch his horse by the prescribed time.

PRAYER CHAMBER (S. Holcombe) began awkwardly.

FULL TIDE (M. Bennett) was slow to begin.

MEDIUM ‘N’ RARE (T. Pannell) and DANARDOS (W. Pearson) came together and bumped on jumping away.

REVINDICATE (D. Griffin) overraced in the early stages and was caught racing wide for the majority of the event.

Approaching the 800m PERILOUS PRINCESS (App O. Turpin) improved up onto the heels of DRIVER (App T. Chambers) and had to be steadied.

DANARDOS hung out rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

Near the 300m DANARDOS shifted out inconveniencing GOLD OMEGA (P. Holmes).

Near the 50m PERILOUS PRINCESS and WIND GUSTS (D. Green) came together and bumped.

AURELIO (M. Spears) which performed badly was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and found to be sore in the off hind leg. Trainer D. Schmidt’s representative was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before the horse races again.



Race 5: H Harvey Prestige Autobody Repairers Class 3 H’Cap – 1000m.
1st – Amex Gold 2nd – Tag 3rd – Norhave 4th – Patties Mate

Trainer D. Kelly was fined the sum of $200.00 under AR140A in that MARDI MAGRAR was presented to race with incorrect gear. After considering the circumstances stewards permitted the horse to race in the gear presented on the horse.

KINGSFIELD (App L. Dittman) was withdrawn by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice at 2.02 p.m. after the horse took charge of the jockey during the preliminary. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on KINGSFIELD were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 3 cents in the dollar for a win and 3 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket.

PATTIES MATE (App L. Rolls), MARDI MAGRAR (P. Hammersley) and NORHAVE (T. Pannell) all raced wide for the majority of the event.
AMEX GOLD (D. Barron) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

Leaving the 100m LIONATAQ (W. Pearson) had to be steadied when racing on the inside of NUCLEAR TRUST (D. Tanti) which shifted in. D. Tanti the rider of NUCLEAR TRUST was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.



Race 6: H Harvey Automotive Services Class 4 H’Cap – 1400m.
1st – Tarlee Dancer 2nd – Matzumi 3rd – Father Dex 4th – Exorbitant

MATZUMI (P. Holmes) was slow to begin.

TARLEE DANCER (G. Baker) was tightened shortly after jumping away between RIVERSTONE (W. Pearson) and MONTERRICO (P. Hammersley) both of which shifted ground.

Stewards questioned P. Holmes the rider of MATZUMI regarding his tactics between the 1000 and 300m. P. Holmes stated that he was advised to ride the horse as quietly as possible in the early stages and in an endeavour to save ground he elected to seek a run towards the inside on the home turn. Stewards noted his explanation.



Race 7: H Harvey & Co Towing Services Class 4 H’Cap – 1800m.
1st – Beartracker 2nd – Down To Earth 3rd – Czaboy 4th - Santi

BEARTRACKER (R. Wiggins) overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.

CZARBOY (D. Green) was caught wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

DESTINATION (D. Barron) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Approaching the 300m BEARTRACKER shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped CZARBOY.

Approaching the 200m SANTI (B. Stewart) shifted out to improve and in doing so forced BREAKING THE RULES (W. Pearson) wider on the track which resulted in GALLANT ARCHER (P. Hammersley) which was racing to the outside of BREAKING THE RULES, being tightened for room between BREAKING THE RULES and DESTINATION (D. Barron). B. Stewart the rider of SANTI was reprimanded in this incident.

BREAKING THE RULES lost it’s off fore plate in running.



Race 8: Harvey Smash Repairs Open H’Cap – 1000m.
1st – Babinda Half 2nd – Empire Burlesque 3rd – Lesmartre 4th – True Flyer

Near the 500m NESSUNO (N. Day) raced ungenerously when racing on the inside of CENTENN (App M. Speers). After taking evidence from the riders concerned App M. Speers the rider of CENTENN was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at that point of the race.



Race 9: Terry Walkinshaw Memorial Class 2 H’Cap – 1400m.
1st – Rapid Babe 2nd – Post On Tyne 3rd – Ebor 4th – Legally Hot

JACARANDA HOPE (App K. Yeung) was tightened on jumping away between RAPID BABE (P. Hammersley) and EBOR (D. Griffin) both of which shifted ground.

EBOR (D. Griffin) overraced in the early stages.

KALINGA IVOR (App S. Holcombe) and KENNELLY (App L. Rolls) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Near the 500m when racing in restricted room RAPID BABE (P. Hammersley) and JACARANDA HOPE were tightened for room when racing on the inside of SPORTS ACADEMY (O. Turpin) and KENNELLY.

JACARANDA HOPE shifted ground badly under pressure over the final 300m. App K. Yeung the rider of JACARANDA HOPE was reminded of his obligations to stop riding and straighten his mounts.

Near the 300m SPORTS ACADEMY was tightened for room when racing between ASSERTIVE PRINCE and KALINGA IVOR which shifted in.

Leaving the 200m SPORTS ACADEMY was momentarily crowded for room by KALINGA IVOR which shifted in under pressure.

ASSERTIVE PRINCE suffered a bleeding attack during the event. The gelding will incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing.
