Race 1: Go Bowling Fillies & Mares Maiden H’Cap – 1400m.
1st – Tolart 2nd – Raging Forties 3rd – Bilinga Bay 4th – Fly Misty
TOLART (C. Reith) began awkwardly.
MARY’S HALO (App J. Quinnell) was tightened shortly after the start between NONNA MIA (D. Tanti) and FLY MISTY (M. Traecey) which shifted ground.
NONNA MIA overraced in the early stages of the event.
Following the running of this even the track was upgraded to “dead”.
Race 2: Trent Moffatt Designs Colts & Geldings Maiden H’Cap – 1400m.
1st – Mr Officer 2nd – Finding Neverland 3rd – Nassavette 4th - Ivorbeatem
COMMAND SUCCESS was declared a late scratching at 1.32 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice after it dislodged its rider D. Green during the preliminary and galloped for a considerable distance. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on COMMAND SUCCESS were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 2 cents in the dollar for a win and 2 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket.
NEWSNIGHT (App O. Turpin) began awkwardly.
TIC TOC TIGER (L. Cheshire) began awkwardly shifted out and brushed NASSAVETTE (App M. Hellyer).
BODOM BOY (App L. Rolls) was slow to begin.
Near the 1200m NASSAVETTE was tightened for room when tightened between CONDAMINE HOPE (App T. Chambers) and TIC TOC TIGER which was taken in by ZULU MAN (D. Griffin). D. Griffin was reprimanded and advised to exercise care in similar circumstances.
Near the 1100m TIC TOC TIGER and CONDAMINE HOPE were tightened for room when racing to the inside of HUSSMINDA (D. Tanti) which shifted in when not fully clear. D. Tanti was severely reprimanded and advised to give his fellow riders more room when shifting ground. NASSAVETTE which was following was inconvenienced in this incident.
ZULU MAN had a tendency to overrace in the middle stages.
KAHLUA GOLD (T. Treichel) raced wide for the majority.
Leaving the 200m MR OFFICER (App J. Quinnell) shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped PEAYE ARJAY (G. Baker).
ZULU MAN had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 200m.
NEWSNIGHT (App O. Turpin) had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m of the event.
Race 3: Kelly Services 3YO QTIS Maiden Plate – 1800m.
1st – Indiana Storm 2nd – Umhlanga Rocks 3rd – Mr Beau 4th – Violet’s Wish
Stewards intend to question trainer R. Lipp’s representative regarding the late rider notification for CLANGISMYDAD at a later stage.
CLANGISMYDAD (M. Paget) was tightened for room on jumping away between UMHLANGA ROCKS (G. Baker) and ME TINKS (App T. Chambers) which shifted out after beginning awkwardly.
MR BEAU (D. Griffin) was tightened on jumping away between VIOLET’S WISH (App M. Hellyer) and FOILISSIO (D. Tanti) both of which shifted ground.
STUNDER (L. Herne) began awkwardly.
MR BEAU was inclined to overrace in the early stages.
Near the 600m PRESSED ON (App O. Turpin) improved up onto the heels of STUNDER and had to be steadied.
Leaving the 300m HAITCH (App J. Quinnell) was tightened for room when racing between FOILISSIO (D. Tanti) and PRESSED ON which shifted in.
ME TINKS suffered a bleeding attack during the event and will incur a mandatory ban from racing for a period of 3 months acting under AR53A. A swab sample was take from ME TINKS.
Race 4: Regent Taxis Class 3 H’Cap – 1400m.
1st – Gunsari 2nd – Loaded Tycoon 3rd – Manuka Honey 4th - Haram
HARAM (D. Green) stood flatfooted at the start resulting in the horse losing valuable ground. Trainer A. Willick was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare.
GUNSARI (C. Reith) and MANUKA HONEY (N. Day) came together and bumped on jumping away.
LOADED TYCOON (G. Baker) was inclined to get its head up and overraced in the early stages and again near the 700m.
Race 5: Surfers Paradise Rotary Mockridge Memorail Class 4 H’Cap – 1000m.
1st – Release Me 2nd – August Fair 3rd – Party Lines 4th – Patties Mate
EBONY LAD (A. Erhart) slow to begin.
Near the 700m CREATIVE SOUNDS (M. Traecey) shifted out and bumped TEJADA (App M. Hellyer).
Near the 600m AUGUST FAIR (App T. Chambers) overraced on the heels of MUSICALLY (M. Paget).
When questioned regarding the poor performance of MUSICALLY jockey M. Paget stated that the mare travelled well to the 400m but failed to run on from that point. Trainer S. Jones stated he was also disappointed with the performance of MUSICALLY and that in his opinion the mare may have come to the end of its preparation and consideration would be given to spelling the mare after consultation with the owners.
Race 6: Hallmark Business Sales Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m.
1st – The Noble House 2nd - Tangler 3rd – Going Fine 4th - Rockaria
B. Sutton the trainer of FAIRYTALE FORTUNE was fined the sum of $100.00 for late notification of rider.
TANGLER (T. Treichel) began awkwardly.
BERRY PARK (N. Day) was slow to begin.
T. Treichel the rider of TANGLER was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that at a point near the 600m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of GRAPPLE (App L. Rolls) which became unbalanced and forced wider on the track resulting in COOLWAN (A. Erhart) striking the heels of GRAPPLE and A. Erhart being dislodged. BERRY PARK (N. Day) which was following was subsequently severely hampered and shifted out abruptly resulting in N. Day being dislodged a short distance later. T. Treichel’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of one calendar month to commence midnight 17 July 2008 and to expire midnight 17 August 2008.
ROCKARIA (L. Cheshire) laid in under pressure over the final 200m.
GRAPPLE suffered a bleeding attack during the event. The gelding will incur a mandatory three (3) month ban from racing. A swab sample was taken from GRAPPLE.
Race 7: Civil Pacific Class 2 H’Cap – 1800m.
1st – Sirrocean Storm 2nd – Letmebe 3rd – Tanae Amber 4th – Sheza Queenslander
After being placed in the barriers BRAMBLETYE (D. Griffin) reared dislodging its rider and broke through the barriers galloping a considerable distance. BRAMBLETYE was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4.48 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice. Trainer J. Morrisey was advised that a further barrier certificate must be obtained for BRAMBLETYE before the horse again races. At the same time both SIGURD (T. Treichel) and COXLESS (App M. Hellyer) also broke through the barriers but were quickly restrained and cleared to start by the Club’s veterinary surgeon.
On return to scale and prior to correct weight Stewards delayed the all clear to determine if COXLESS had been afforded a fair start. After interviewing starter S. Andrews, trainer W. Baker and App M. Hellyer and viewing the official video stewards found that the barriers of COXLESS were significantly slow to open resulting in the mare missing the start by a considerable distance. COXLESS was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4.48 p.m. with all winning bets ordered to be paid less 12 cents in the dollar for a win and 14 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket.
LETMEBE (M. Squires) stood flatfooted resulting in the horse losing considerable ground.
KAAPSTAD LAD (D. Tanti) and SHEZA QUEENSLANDER (App J. Quinnell) came together and bumped on jumping away.
SIRROCEAN STORM (M. Traecey) was tightened at the start between SANTENAY (App L. Rolls) and LOGIE (L. Cheshire) both of which shifted ground.
SIGURD was caught wide in the early and middle stages.
Leaving the 800m SIRROCEAN STORM improved up onto the heels of LOGIE (L. Cheshire) and had to be steadied.
LETMEBE was caught wide for the majority of the event.
LOGIE had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 300m.
