Race 1: AFL Grand Final @ Gold Coast Turf Club (Maiden Plate) – 1800m.
1st – Rivkama 2nd – National Soldier 3rd – Fame Dancer 4th – Umhlanga Rocks
BUNDAGEREE (M Paget) was slow to begin.
VINTAGE DOM (B Payne) began awkwardly and shortly after was hampered when tightened between FAME DANCER (M Bennett) and WORKING (D Barron) which shifted out.
NATIONAL SOLDIER (T Treichel) over-raced in the early stages of the event.
VINTAGE DOM raced wide during the early stages of the event.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on BUNDAGEREE in contrast to its previous starts, Jockey M Paget stated that he was instructed to settle the horse back in the field. He said BUNDAGEREE travelled well until the home turn however when placed under pressure in the straight, in his opinion, the gelding ran to the finish line in a disappointing manner. When questioned Trainer K Devine stated that at the gelding’s last start when ridden forward BUNDAGEREE over-raced and hung out and as a result incurred an embargo requiring the gelding to trial prior to its next start. He said for this reason he instructed Jockey Paget to ride the gelding quieter today as a result. Stewards noted K Devine’s explanation however reminded him of his obligations to advise the Stewards of any future change in riding tactics.
When questioned regarding the performance of UMHLANGA ROCKS today Jockey G Baker stated that the horse travelled well up to the home turn but failed to respond to his riding from that point and in his opinion was most disappointing. Trainer R Stephenson could offer no tangible excuse for the performance and undertook to advise Stewards if anything becomes apparent with the gelding in subsequent days. A post-race veterinary examination of UMHLANGA ROCKS (G Baker) which raced below expectation failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.
A post-race veterinary examination of TROJAN JOY (C Small), which weakened noticeably in the straight, failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.
After the running of this event Jockey M Bennett was stood down by the club’s doctor. Rider replacements for Jockey Bennett were made as per the Stewards’ Raceday Summary.
Race 2: Bendigo Tugun Community Bank (QTIS Maiden H’cap) – 1400m.
1st – Desperates 2nd – El Tempo 3rd – Legal Fee 4th – Red to Riches
BOY’S NIGHT OUT, which was kicked by another runner, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
SUPER WONTON was a late scratching at 11.50 am on veterinary advice. Trainer N Hocking was advised that he must produce a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness for SUPER WONTON prior to the gelding’s next race start.
IMAGES (G Baker) and LEGAL FEE (C Whiteley) bumped on jumping away.
BOY’S NIGHT OUT (B Payne) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
EL TEMPO (App. M Hellyer) and BOY’S NIGHT OUT over-raced in the early stages of the event.
Near the 900m BOY’S NIGHT OUT raced up on to the heels of DAI SUKI (App. J Jones) and was steadied.
BOY’S NIGHT OUT was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
Over the final 100m EL TEMPO was inclined to lay in under pressure.
After the running of this event App. L Dittman was stood down by the club’s doctor. Rider replacements for App. Dittman were made as per the Stewards’ Raceday Summary.
Race 3: Baker & Affleck (QTIS 3YO Maiden H’cap) – 1200m.
1st – Orient Success 2nd – Mystical Knight 3rd – Star of Ombra 4th – Markhee Miss
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Jockey C Whiteley for the dual engagement on ORIENT SUCCESS and ZAHNOOCHI.
The start of this race was delayed due to racing at another venue. A further delay was caused due to KILBORN (D Green) refusing to load.
KILBORN was a late scratching at 1.45 pm by order of the Stewards when the filly refused to enter the barrier stalls. Prior the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on KILBORN were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 3 cents in the dollar for a win and 3 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer B Guy’s representative was advised that a further Barrier Certificate would be required for KILBORN prior to the filly’s next race start.
FOOLISH POEM (C Small) was slow to begin.
KING IGLESIA (G Baker) and KIRKORIAN (J Bowditch) bumped shortly after the start.
SOUTH GRAFTON (App. M Hellyer) and THREE TALES (S Drake) were slow into stride.
Approaching the 900m MARKHEE MISS (K Forrester) raced up on to the heels of ORIENT SUCCESS (C Whiteley) and had to be steadied.
Near the 900m KING IGLESIA which commenced to over-race became unbalanced, shifted out and hampered KIRKORIAN.
MARKHEE MISS (K Forrester) was inclined to lay out throughout the event placing its rider at a disadvantage. Trainer S McCarthy was advised that an official warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners.
ZAHNOOCHI (C Reith) and FOOLISH POEM raced wide throughout the event.
KING IGLESIA and STAR OF OMBRA (App. J Jones) over-raced in the middle stages of the event.
THREE TALES (S Drake) was momentarily held up for clear running on entering the straight.
Over the concluding stages KING IGLESIA shifted out and bumped SOUTH GRAFTON.
A post-race veterinary examination of KIRKORIAN failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
A post-race veterinary examination of WYNARAE (App. L Rolls) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
Race 4: Westaway Restorations (Class 4 H’cap) – 2200m.
1st – Bay Lady Pay 2nd – Rich Blue Dane 3rd – Highly Thought Of 4th – Grand Corso
RICH BLUE DANE (D Green) was slow to begin.
BAY LADY PAY (J Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion SCOLIERA STREET (C Reith) improved up on to the heels of BAY LADY PAY, shifted out and hampered RICH BLUE DANE.
Approaching the 800m SCOLIERA STREET was inclined to lay in on to GRAND CORSO (App. J Jones) placing GRAND CORSO in restricted room for a short distance.
Near the 400m SCOLIERA STREET was tightened for room and had to be steadied when crowded between BAY LADY PAY which shifted in slightly and GRAND CORSO (App. J Jones) which shifted out. App. J Jones was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future.
A post-race veterinary examination of GRAND CORSO failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
Race 5: Treeview Estate (Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 H’cap) – 1200m.
1st – Washed 2nd – Boss Cocky 3rd – Finn O’Reilly 4th - Sayers
Near the 400m WASHED (C Reith) shifted out to improve and in doing so forced BOSS COCKY (M Heagney) wider on the track.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a “slow 7”.
Race 6: Tugun Surf Life Saving Club (Fillies & Mares Class 1 H’cap) – 1200m.
1st – Gravitron 2nd – Miz Winfrey 3rd – Nattsukee 4th - Exantheia
GIRL OF THE MOMENT (M Traecey) was slow to begin.
PRUSSIAN LASS (L Cheshire) began awkwardly and shortly after bumped the hindquarters of MIZ WINFREY (App. J Jones).
Near the 900m MIZ WINFREY, which was over-racing, shifted out slightly and bumped BELLACHENKA (T Treichel).
Near the 900m EXANTHEIA (J Bowditch) was inclined to lay in across the heels of NATTSUKEE (D Green) and was steadied.
NATTSUKEE raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 700m PRUSSIAN LASS had to be steadied when improving up on to the heels of GIRL OF THE MOMENT.
A post-race veterinary examination of BELLACHENKA revealed the mare to have blood present in the left nostril after sustaining a small laceration.
Race 7: Westaway Fire & Water Damage (Class 6 H’cap) – 1200m.
1st – Morning Colours 2nd – Wokandi 3rd – Three Chances 4th – Kanetoshi Millions
Approaching the 900m THREE CHANCES (S Drake) commenced to over-race, shifted out across the heels of LUNCH AT FRISCOS (App. L Rolls) and in doing so took WOKANDI (J Bowditch) wider on the track. In this incident KANETOSHI MILLIONS (D Green) which was following was steadied.
Near the 800m the off hind bumper bandage on WOKANDI (J Bowditch) came off.
MORNING COLOURS (App. J Jones) was held up momentarily for a short distance on entering the straight.
In the home straight WOKANDI and THREE CHANCES brushed on several occasions.
A post-race veterinary examination of LUNCH AT FRISCOS revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the near hind leg in running.
Race 8: Hipwood Constructions (Class 3 H’cap) – 1400m.
1st – Going Fine 2nd – Chilli Magic 3rd – No Technique 4th - Damnation
SHOALHAVEN ROCK (D Green) was slow to begin.
NO TECHNIQUE (App. J Jones) knuckled on jumping away.
SHOALHAVEN ROCK over-raced in the early stages of the event.
DAMNATION (J Bowditch) raced wide in the early stages of the event.
CHILLI MAGIC (T Pannell) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
