SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

T. Treichel was fined the sum of $200.00 for the contravention of AR175(p) for failing to comply with a steward’s direction relating to the Brisbane Turf Club’s meeting on Saturday 4 October 2008.

Stewards questioned App C. Isdale regarding his failure to fulfil his riding engagements on COUNT SYLVESTER and THE FIFER at the Sunshine Coast meeting on 19 October 2008. After considering his explanation stewards were of the opinion there were extenuating circumstances regarding the matter and took no further action.


Race 1: Melbourne Cup New Dining Released QTIS Maiden Plate – 1800m.
1st – Our Ojay 2nd – Mapadama 3rd – Lucky Call 4th – Kansas City Star

The start of this race was delayed as a result of MUCHO GRACIAS (App J. Quinnell), MAPADAMA (D. Tanti) and RED TO RICHES (N. Day) all breaking through the barriers at different times. All horses were examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

RED TO RICHES began awkwardly.

CUGAT’S LADY (T. Treichel) and LUCKY CALL (App M. Hellyer) came together and brushed on jumping away.

OUR OJAY (D. Griffin) overraced approaching the first turn.

C. Spry reported that KANSAS CITY STAR was inclined to lay in for the majority of the event.

LUCKY CALL was held up in the early stages of the straight and until leaving the 200m.

MAPADAMA cast a near fore plate in running.

A post race veterinary inspection of RED TO RICHES revealed the mare had pulled up lame in the near fore fetlock. Trainer B. Gentle was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before RED TO RICHES races again.



Race 2: UD Trucks QTIS 3YO H’Cap – 1300m.
1st – Doonbah Star 2nd – Monashee Gold 3rd – Kwila Sunrise 4th – La Bandera

SPECKS OF MAGIC (App L. Dittman) which was initially slow to begin was soon after bumped by KWILA SUNRISE (D. Tanti) which shifted out.

PRIVILEGED CLASS (D. Barron) overraced in the early stages of the event and leaving the 900m shifted out across the heels of LA BANDERA (D. Griffin) inconveniencing KWILA SUNRISE.

Approaching the 200m MONASHEE GOLD (App L. Rolls) was tightened between LA BANDERA (D. Griffin) and PRIVILEGED CLASS both of which shifted ground. Jockeys D. Griffin and D. Barron (PRIVILEGED CLASS) were both advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Stewards questioned T. Treichel the rider of DOONBAH STAR regarding his return to scale in excess of the 1/2 kilo allowance imposed. After considering all evidence and taking into consideration the prevailing weather conditions stewards took no further action.

A post race examination of MONASHEE GOLD revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the near fore pastern.


Race 3: Zupps For UD Trucks Class 5 H’Cap – 1400m.
1st – Daedalus 2nd – Defend The Hill 3rd – Somewhere Safer 4th - Prend

CHILLI MAGIC (App T. Chambers) had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m.

A veterinary examination of BLUE OYSTER (App M. Speers), which performed poorly, revealed no significant abnormality. When questioned regarding the matter trainer L. Birchley’s representative confirmed his disappointment with the horse’s performance and advised that further tests would be carried out. Stewards instructed connections to advise of the outcome of these tests.




Race 4: Zupps Trucks Centres Maiden H’Cap – 1200m.
1st – Little Mel 2nd – Mr Nappy 3rd – Refinance 4th – Catcher Man

The start of this race was delayed when REFINANCE proved difficult to load. Trainer H. Page was advised that a further barrier certificate must be obtained before the mare again races.

FEAR ‘N’ LOATHING (App E. Kehoe) was slow to begin.

REFINANCE (D. Griffin) which began awkwardly was tightened shortly after the start between REPORT FOR DUTY (App J. Quinnell) and CLIMATE CHANGE (C. Small) which shifted out.

MR NAPPY (J. Watkins) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Approaching the 800m CLIMATE CHANGE shifted out forcing REFINANCE out onto REPORT FOR DUTY, which resulted in REFINANCE and REPORT FOR DUTY bumping.

App T. Chambers the rider of GUTENBERG was reprimanded for her whip use over the final 300m on a horse out of contention.


Race 5: UD GW Heavy Trucks Fillies & Mares Class 1 H’Cap – 1400m.
1st – Bougette 2nd – A Little Knowledge 3rd – Downsize 4th - Galiup

As App S. Holcombe was injured at track work today stewards permitted App M. Speers to be substituted as the rider of SANCTUARY RED.

J. Morrisey the trainer of DOWNSIZE was fined the sum of $100.00 for presenting the horse in the enclosure with incorrect gear.

LINDY’S OPINION (App C. Isdale) was slow to begin.

CRACK THE KITTY (App L. Dittman) raced ungenerously and shifted out approaching the 800m.

NIEMCZ (B. Payne) and SANCTUARY RED (App M. Speers) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CRACK THE KITTY, App L. Dittman explained that the horse failed to settle in the middle stages of the event. He added he was of the opinion that the horse racing over the distance of 1400m compared to its previous start of 1200m was a contributing factor. Trainer M. Thexton advised that the horse had not handled the 1400m of today’s event and she was of the opinion that the horse was better suited to distances of 1200m. Their explanations were noted.



Race 6: Zupps Trucks Burleigh Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 H’Cap – 1400m.
1st – What Is This 2nd – Dont Call Me Bruce 3rd – Educated 4th – Danish Dandy

OUR HEART (D. Barron) was slow to begin.
EDUCATED (App T. Chambers) and DONT CALL ME BRUCE (App L. Dittman) came together and brushed on jumping away.

OUR HEART raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

Near the 300m OUR HEART which was under pressure was tightened for room when racing between OVERRULING (D. Griffin) and WHAT IS THIS (N. Day) which shifted out to improve.

EDUCATED was inclined to shift out under pressure over the final 100m which resulted in its rider being unable to fully test the mount until close to the finish line.


Race 7: UD Medium Trucks Class 3 Plate – 1200m.
1st – Washed 2nd – Perilous Princess 3rd – Rock The Roses 4th – Lauren’s Halo

ROCK THE ROSES (D. Griffin) began awkwardly resulting in the horse losing valuable ground.

App C. Isdale the rider of PERILOUS PRINCESS was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift out leaving the 200m point resulting in KING JOEL having to be checked. App Isdale’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of six (6) meetings to commence midnight 30 October 2008 and to expire midnight 6 November 2008.

T. Treichel the rider of LEAPING LEIGH pleaded guilty to a charge under AR145A for returning to scale in excess of the 1/2 kilo allowance. T. Treichel was fined the sum of $200.00.

A post race veterinary examination of KING JOEL (App L. Dittman) revealed the gelding to be sore in the near fore leg and had sustained a tendon injury. Trainer S. Jones will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before the horse again races.



Race 8: 1300 Buy A UD Class 2 H’Cap – 1800m.
1st – Trust Me Honey 2nd – The Italian 3rd – Classy Felix 4th – A Grade

The start of the race was delayed when NO LIMITATION broke through the barriers dislodging its rider App J. Piper, who suffered a harmless fall. The horse then galloped a considerable distance and was subsequently a late withdrawal at 5.27 p.m. acting on veterinary advice. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on NO LIMITATION were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 8 cents in the dollar for a win and 9 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket.

TRUST ME HONEY (B. Calkin) was tightened on jumping away between EQUAL SIGN (C. Small) and PRISONS (App L. Dittman) both of which shifted ground.

EQUAL SIGN raced wide for the majority of the event.

The saddle of PRISONS shifted forward near the 1400m placing its rider App L. Dittman at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

Near the 1300m HAZERATION (L. Cheshire) shifted out to improve and in doing so forced ANABIDDY (K. Forrester) wider on the track.

Approaching the 1200m YOU SAID (App E. Kehoe) overraced on the heels of ANABIDDY and as a consequence shifted out.
