Race 1: Christmas in July Book Now! Maiden Plate – 900m.
1st – Dr Barnard 2nd – Editave 3rd – Silverlinity 4th – Nerangatang

DR BARNARD (N Seymour) which stood flat-footed as the start was effected, lost considerable ground. Trainer J Wallace’s representative was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.

SUNSHINE LASS (App. J Jones) was slow to begin.

SILVERLINITY (A Merritt) lost ground shortly after the start when hampered between EDITAVE (C Whiteley) and HERE’S TO ME (L Cheshire) which shifted in.

Near the 300m DR BARNARD shifted out to improve and in doing so hampered both SILVERLINITY and SUNSHINE LASS.

Stewards questioned App. L Rolls regarding the tactics adopted on NERANGATANG, particularly from the 400m onwards. Stewards were concerned with App. Rolls’ apparent lack of vigour on the filly. App. Rolls stated that he had been instructed not to pressure the filly too early as Trainer M Eggleston was of the opinion that as the filly had missed a barrier trial due to the recent wet weather, she may not be forward enough in her preparation to sustain a long run and as a result may not finish the race off well. He stated for this reason he did not pressure NERANGATANG until near the 250m and it was his opinion that the filly did not finish the race off well. Trainer’s representative, Mandy Eggleston confirmed the instructions. Stewards noted the explanations of both parties.

A post-race veterinary examination of VANDANLILY (T Pannell) which tailed off, failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 2: Attwood Marshall Lawyers Maiden H’cap – 1200m.
1st – Lake George 2nd – Mambo Princess 3rd – Inch Ahead 4th – Catcher Man

As App. C McIver was late to arrive on course he was replaced by L Cheshire on STREET WISE when no other apprentice rider was available. App. McIver was fined the sum of $100.

App. A Hyeronimus (PRINCE TELESTO) was reprimanded for late arrival on course.

Trainer J Morrisey was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of LAKE GEORGE (App. L Rolls) which proved difficult to load.

PRINCE TELESTO (App. A Hyeronimus) and TRISTABRAVE (K Purdy) which became fractious in the barriers were inspected by the veterinary surgeon prior to the start. TRISTABRAVE was passed fit to take its place in the field. PRINCE TELESTO (App. A Hyeronimus) was a late withdrawal @ 12.39 pm. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on PRINCE TELESTO were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 9 cents in the dollar for a win and 10 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket.
Trainer R Bradshaw was advised that he must obtain a further Barrier Certificate for PRINCE TELESTO before the gelding races again.
Trainer T Bailey was advised that he must obtain a further Barrier Certificate for TRISTABRAVE before the colt races again.

RIO MAGIC (A Merritt) was slow to begin.

LATARGIRL (T Pannell) jumped away awkwardly.

QUEEN EVITA (App. T Chambers) jumped away awkwardly making heavy contact with TRISTABRAVE. A short distance later QUEEN EVITA shifted out making heavy contact with LAKE GEORGE (App. L Rolls).

STREET WISE (L Cheshire), PLAY FOR GOLD (D Green) and LATARGIRL raced wide throughout the event.

Leaving the 700m CATCHER MAN (A Spinks) improved on to the heels of MAMBO PRINCESS (App. M Hellyer) and had to be steadied.

Rounding the home turn LAKE GEORGE shifted out around the heels of STREET WISE which also had a tendency to shift ground at that point resulting in LATARGIRL and RIO MAGIC (A Merritt) both being forced wider the track. App. Rolls, the rider of LAKE GEORGE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.

LAKE GEORGE shifted extremely wide on the track under pressure over the concluding stages. App. Rolls was advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner in similar circumstances.

Race 3: Attwood Marshall Lawyers QTIS 2yo H’cap – 1200m.
1st - Ourkohinoor 2nd – False Accusation 3rd – Esprit Soleil 4th - Sequiz

GOODTOBETHEQUEEN (App. M Palmer) was slow to begin.

ROYAL BRAT (N Seymour) shifted out at the start making contact with OURKOHINOOR (A Spinks).

Near the 900m TEN FLUTES (App. M Wood) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of OUR MR CASHMAN (G Baker) which shifted in. As a result ESPRIT SOLEIL (C Whiteley) which was following improved on to the heels of TEN FLUTES and had to be steadied.

GOODTOBETHEQUEEN commenced to over-race for a short distance near the 800m and as a result shifted wider on the track to avoid heels. The filly was then obliged to race wide from that point onwards.

ESPRIT SOLEIL raced wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards questioned both Jockey G Baker and Trainer A Williamson regarding the performance of OUR MR CASHMAN. Jockey Baker stated that in his opinion the horse at no stage handled the rain affected track conditions and became awkward from the 600m and had concerns that something may have been amiss with the gelding. Stewards further questioned both parties regarding Jockey Baker’s apparent lack of vigour from the 500m onwards. Mr Williamson stated that he was happy with Jockey Baker’s ride as he agreed from his observations the horse appeared not to handle the rain affected track conditions. When taking into account that the horse appeared to become awkward over the concluding stages, Stewards took no further action. A post-race veterinary examination of OUR MR CASHMAN failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

Race 4: Attwood Marshall Lawyers Class 3 Plate – 1800m.
1st – Tabulate 2nd - Hindsight 3rd – Party Ritz 4th - Semi Final

TABULATE (App. L Rolls) and TATHAM LAD (App. S Bogenhuber) were slow to begin.

TABULATE raced wide from the 800m onwards.

A post-race veterinary examination of SPIN ZERO which tailed off, revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Race 5: Attwood Marshall Lawyers Class 1 H’cap – 1200m.
1st – The Sixties 2nd – Mr Nappy 3rd – San Isidro 4th - Auscoal

SAN ISIDRO (C Whiteley) was slow to begin. Trainer S Lowe was advised that a warning would be placed on SAN ISIDRO.

Shortly after the start TOP CUBAN (D Craven) was obliged to ease when momentarily tightened for room between AUSCOAL (N Seymour) and THE SIXTIES (A Merritt) which shifted in.

KAMADIVA (T Pannell) and OWNERS RULE (App. S Bogenhuber) raced wide throughout the event.

Near the 500m SIR ROSSA (K Purdy) was obliged to steady from the heels of the tiring READY ASSET (M Hellyer) and was forced to shift wider on the track. SIR ROSSA then had difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 400m.

Near the 200m SIR ROSSA was hampered and forced wider on the track to avoid the heels of OWNERS RULE which shifted out.

SAN ISIDRO had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and again in the early stages of the straight.

Race 6: Revelstone Stud Class 2 H’cap – 900m.
1st - Vivaheart 2nd – Perilous Princess 3rd - Stoner 4th – Feline Hunter

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey G Baker the rider of PERILOUS PRINCESS which finished second against VIVAHEART (L Cheshire) being declared the winner alleging interference at approximately 250m. After taking evidence from the riders concerned and viewing the official video, Stewards were of the opinion that at this point of the race VIVAHEART did shift in momentarily under pressure, however, G Baker which was following was at no stage obliged to stop riding his mount and the protest was dismissed.

PERILOUS PRINCESS was slowly in to stride.

Rounding the home turn PERILOUS PRINCESS (G Baker) improved on to the heels of QUEEN OF DANES (N Seymour) and had to be steadied and shifted wider on the track to obtain clear running.

Near the 300m STONER (App. J Jones) when disappointed for a run between MAID READY (App. C McIver) and FELINE HUNTER (App. M Wood) shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running.

LATIN IDOL (App. M Palmer) was slow to begin.

CHARM OF ROSSANA (D Green) raced wide for the majority of the event.

TEARY EYED (App. L Rolls) was momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

A post-race veterinary examination of LA ZEEL failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of MR LISTER revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of having tied up.

Race 8: Attwood Marshall Lawyers Class 3 H’cap – 1400m.
1st - Dispurser 2nd – Reef Court 3rd - Aninspiration 4th Red Ferments

Stewards questioned Trainer H Norman regarding the dual engagement of Jockey G Baker on YAMARJIE and REEF COURT. After taking evidence it was accepted that this was due to a miscommunication and no further action was taken. Stewards permitted Jockey K Forrester to be replaced as the rider on YAMARJIE.

As Jockey K Purdy was stood down by the Club Doctor after the running of Race 5, Stewards permitted App. Michael Palmer to be replaced as the rider on LOADED TYCOON.

AFFRONT (C Whiteley) was slow to begin.

Jockey G Baker (REEF COURT) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount of shift in near the 1000m when insufficiently clear of OUR MR STILTS (App. M Speers) resulting in that horse being taken in on to WEROCKIT (D Green) forcing both horses to shift in placing MR STILTS in restricted room for some distance and ultimately losing its position passing the 900m. Jockey Baker was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 meetings to commence midnight 02/06/2009 and to expire midnight 12/06/2009.

ANINSPIRATION (D Craven) and AFFRONT raced wide for the majority of the event.

REEF COURT was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Near the 300m REEF COURT was forced to steady to avoid the heels of ANINSPIRATION which shifted in.

GOLDFINGER (App. J Jones) had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and again over the concluding stages of the event.

DISPURSER (B Swanton) was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

When questioned regarding the performance and tactics adopted on STEAL THE CASH, App. S Bogenhuber stated that she had been instructed to ride aggressively in the early stages and take up a forward position. She was of the opinion that she had pressured STEAL THE CASH for too long during the early stages and as a result when attempting to restrain the gelding from the 1000m it commenced to over-race. She felt that this along with the rain affected track conditions resulted in STEAL THE CASH failing to run on as anticipated. Trainer T Gollan confirmed the instructions and agreed that Ms Bogenhuber had persisted too long in riding her horse aggressively out of the barriers. Stewards also agreed with Ms Bogenhuber however, were of the view that the horse’s performance could not entirely be attributed to her actions and taking into account her status as an apprentice, took no further action. A post-race veterinary examination of STEAL THE CASH failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
