SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
From GCTC 08/08/2009. Stewards continued the inquiry into Jockey M Heagney’s use of the whip on RUNJANA. After considering the matter Stewards gave Jockey Heagney the benefit of the doubt as to whether he had contravened the rules by using his whip in an excessive manner.
Race 1: Lifestyle Maiden Plate – 900m.
1st – Fantastic Force 2nd – Craiglea Hummer 3rd – Orletsky 4th – Miss Teapot
BOUNCIN’ BACK (C Whiteley) was a late scratching at 12.17 pm by order of the Stewards on advice from the Starter after the filly was unable to be loaded. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on BOUNCIN’ BACK were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 12 cents in the dollar for a win and 11 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer T Whittington was advised that 2 further Barrier Certificates must be obtained before BOUNCIN’ BACK again races.
NOVA ICE (A Merritt) was tightened on jumping away between BLASKO (D Green) and NERANGATANG (D Griffin) both of which shifted ground.
FINX (T Pannel) was slow to begin.
MISS TEAPOT (D Tanti) shifted out at the start making contact with CRAIGLEA HUMMER (D Peisley) which in turn shifted out on to FANTASTIC FORCE (D Barron).
EMID (N Thomas), FALVELISA (K Forrester) and ORLETSKY (App. E Kehoe) all raced wide for the majority of the event.
FANTASTIC FORCE was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
Rounding the home turn CRAIGLEA HUMMER had difficulty obtaining clear running and had to be eased wider to avoid the heels of NOVA ICE.
Leaving the 400m EMID shifted out making contact with FALVELISA.
Approaching the 300m CRAIGLEA HUMMER had to be steadied off the heels of NOVA ICE as a result of both horses shifting ground.
ORLETSKY was inclined to lay out under pressure in the straight.
Race 2: AIA QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1400m.
1st – Lord Linlithgow 2nd – Rocket To Rio 3rd - Aletheia 4th – Show Me Why
Stewards permitted Jockey N Thomas to be replaced as the rider on TRIBUTE TO VALOUR when Jockey R Wiggins was delayed due to transport problems.
LORD LINLITHGOW (T Treichel) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with SHOW ME WHY (D Griffin).
Shortly after the start Jockey T Pannell (ALIAISON) fell when racing between TRIBUTE TO VALOUR (N Thomas), LORD LINLITHGOW and SHOW ME WHY (D Griffin). At a subsequent inquiry Jockey T Treichel was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for allowing his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ALIAISON resulting in ALIAISON being tightened for room and falling when racing between LORD LINLITHGOW and TRIBUTE TO VALOUR. Jockey Treichel was suspended from riding in races to commence midnight 16/08/09 and to expire midnight 15/09/09. As Jockey T Pannell was unable to fulfil his further riding engagements, Stewards permitted rider replacements as per Stewards’ Race Day Summary. ALIAISON was humanely euthanased as a result of serious injures sustained in this fall.
Shortly after the start SOVEREIGN SPIRIT (D Tanti) was tightened for room when racing between BLUE ALI (A Merritt) and MR TRACEY (App. J Wood) which shifted in.
SOVEREIGN SPIRIT and MR TRACEY came together and bumped on a number of occasions between the 1300m and 1200m section of the event.
SHOW ME WHY (D Griffin) raced wide for the majority of the event.
ROCKET TO RIO (D Barron) was inclined to hang in for the majority of the event.
Race 3: Small Myers Hughes (SMH) Class 1 H’cap – 1000m .
1st - Giddyupjayjay 2nd - Malesia 3rd – Canadian Chief 4th – Danes Kid
CANADIAN CHIEF (B Payne) and DANES KID (D Tanti) made contact on jumping away.
Near the 100m ALEXANDRE (D Peisley) shifted in and made contact with the running rail.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CIRCUMNAVIGATE, Jockey C Whiteley said he didn’t wish to be caught in a speed battle and therefore elected to take a trailing position behind the leaders, however, the mare was under pressure approaching the home turn. A veterinary examination of CIRCUMNAVIGATE failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
Race 4: Jim’s Mowing Class 4 H’cap – 2200m.
1st - Eureka 2nd - Anglesea 3rd – Bold Contact 4th – Strawberry Ripple
Trainer R Heathcote’s representative was advised that a fine would be imposed of $100 for presenting EUREKA (D Peisley) to race with incorrect gear.
OUR MAN (App. K Gates) and TEN CORONAS (T Treichel) were slow to begin.
The saddle of OUR MAN shifted forward in the early stages of the event placing the rider at a disadvantage which resulted in the horse shifting wider on the track at the 1500m. OUR MAN then raced wide for the remainder of the event.
Approaching the 1500m ALBUQUERQUE (D Griffin) had to be steadied off the heels of OUR MAN which shifted out.
BOLD DISTINCTION (App. J Wood) was caught racing wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
Jockey D Peisley rider of EUREKA was reprimanded for hitting his horse on more than 3 occasions in consecutive strides over the final 200m of the event.
A post-race veterinary examination of BOLD DISTINCTION failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
Race 5: Westpac 4YO & Up Maiden H’cap – 1400m.
1st - Renovations 2nd – Adventurous Reg 3rd - Context 4th – Pink Sapphire
Stewards permitted Jockey D Green to be replaced as the rider on LUNAR BELLE when Jockey D Craven was indisposed through illness.
Trainer J Morrisey was fined the sum of $100 for failing to notify the rider for RENOVATIONS (J Wood) by the prescribed time.
MORANT’S VISION (R Agnew) and JOHANNE’S DIAMOND (B Payne) made contact on jumping away.
BROLGA ROAD (C Whiteley) over-raced in the early stages of the event.
ADVENTUROUS REG (App. E Kehoe) was caught racing wide for the majority of the event.
Race 6: Gold Coast Blaze Class 1 H’cap – 1800m.
1st – Tora San 2nd - Estrellito 3rd – Titans Gold 4th - Ziazan
ELLA MAREE (C Whiteley) and ZIAZAN (J Watkins) were tightened on jumping away between TORA SAN (R Wiggins) and GRAND GOODWAY (D Tanti) both of which shifted ground.
HANDSOME DANE (D Peisley) shifted out at the start making contact with DEALT A DIAMOND (D Griffin).
STAR OF AMY (M Heagney) was caught racing wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
KANSAS CITY STAR (B Thomson) was caught racing wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 100m HANDSOME DANE (D Peisley) was tightened for room when racing to the outside of DEALT A DIAMOND (D Griffin) and TITANS GOLD (App. E Kehoe) and to the inside, ZIAZAN (J Watkins), GRAND GOODWAY (D Tanti) and TORA SAN (R Wiggins). After taking evidence from the riders concerned and acting on their own observations, Stewards were of the opinion that TORA SAN has shifted in whilst at the same time DEALT A DIAMOND has contributed to the inside by shifting out and away from TITANS GOLD. No blame could be attributed to any one horse or rider and Stewards therefore noted the matter.
A post-race veterinary examination of ELLA MAREE failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
Race 7: Comac Properties Class 2 H’cap – 1200m.
1st – Easy Play 2nd - Stoner 3rd – Treasure Cay 4th - Mymysherona
JOBURG ANGEL (N Thomas) was tightened on jumping away between MYMYSHERONA (R Agnew) and BET ‘N’ BARNEY (L Cheshire) which shifted in.
BET ‘N’ BARNEY was caught racing wide for the majority of the event and near the 700m shifted in and bumped EASY PLAY (D Griffin).
Race 8: Professional Investment Services Class 3 H’cap – 1400m.
1st – Peaceful Belle 2nd - Guns 3rd – Swiss Alps 4th - Yamarjie
DAMASHQUI (N Thomas) was slow to begin.
DANCING BENI (App. E Kehoe) over-raced in the early stages of the event.
When the pace of the race steadied near the 800m JUST A CLASSIC (M Dorrington) improved up on to the heels of SWISS ALPS (R Wiggins) and was obliged to shift in.
Near the 700m ISLA XAAR (C Whiteley) improved up on to the heels of DAMASHQUI and had to be steadied.
Approaching the 600m DANCING BENI over-raced at the heels of GUNS (T Treichel) and shifted out inconveniencing SIMIAN EXPRESS (App. J Wood) and DAMASHQUI. In this incident GUNS suffered lacerations to both hind legs.
